“So yes, thanks. And when the egg hatches, just know you can count on me for help.” She bit her lip, as if already regretting putting herself out there.
“Thank you, Mariah. I appreciate that.” I gave her a killer smile, and gradually, her nerves seemed to fade. Once my egg had hatched, I was going to make more of an effort to get to know her properly.
“Knock, knock,” Marcus’ voice sing-songed from the door.
“I’m taking that as my cue to leave,” Mariah said.
“I’ll talk to you later?” I asked, and she nodded instantly.
“In a bit, Ayra.” She brushed past Marcus, who was looking at her with a rather confused expression on his face.
“I thought no one here knew who you were?” he asked, coming inside and seating himself at the special dressing table they had set up for the mother at the Blessing.
“Devon’s family does,” I replied. “It’s a fairly new development.”
“I see, any more of those?” he asked.
“Not really.” I kept him as up to date as I could, but didn’t see him nearly as often as I wanted to. We lived that little bit too far away now.
“Fill me in anyway?”
I smiled at him, before launching into everything that had happened since I’d seen him last. Which wasn’t much except the colour changes in my egg really.
The Orrin markings had changed from their sparkly silver colour, to a slightly turquoise hue. Which I’d learned only meant one thing.
Tate was right. We were having a baby girl.
