Beneath Deception: An Unbreakable Series (Romantic Suspense) Page 10

by A. L Long

Just as I had expected, Agnes was busy making breakfast, which consisted of freshly cut fruit, Canadian bacon, eggs garnished with some sort of spice, and oven-browned potatoes that smelled amazing. Giving her a “Good morning,” I smiled down at her and asked, “I need you to help me with something. I’ve never taken breakfast to a woman before and I want this to be perfect.”

“I think it is very romantic of you. I’m sure Tessa will love it, no matter what,” she assured me.

Gathering everything that she thought was needed, Agnes began placing the items on a linen-covered tray. Adding her own little touch, she found a small vase, filled it with water, and took one of the white roses from the arrangement she had planned to set on the dining table. It was amazing what she did with the breakfast tray. It looked like it was made for a queen. The queen being Tessa.

“That should do it. Now go and impress your sweetheart,” Agnes ordered tenderly as she lifted the tray from the counter and held it for me to take. Even though I hadn’t known her very long, if I could have had what I wanted, I would have wanted her as my mother.

I will never forget the look on Tessa’s face when I walked in the room carrying the breakfast tray. Her excitement sparked like a young kid on her birthday. It was the most amazing sight I had ever seen, other than the comforter falling away exposing her absolutely perfect breasts. I was so captivated by them that I almost dropped the tray so that I could indulge in her perfection.

Watching her cover her breasts, I moved toward the bed and waited until she was settled. Placing the tray across her lap, I took a seat on the edge of the bed, keeping my eyes focused on her as she picked up a strawberry and very seductively bit into it. “If you continue to eat that strawberry in that manner, I might be forced to take you right now and forget about letting you eat.”

This was the first time I had actually seen her smile. With a small giggle, she said, “Whatever you wish,” before popping the rest of the fruit in her mouth.

Hating that I needed to get serious for a moment, I picked up a slice of buttered toast and took a bite. Taking a sip of juice to wash it down, I put on my businesslike expression and asked the one question that would open a new set of doors for her. “Tessa, can you tell me what you remember of your childhood?”

Wiping her mouth with the cloth napkin, she waited a moment before answering. “I really don’t remember much at all. I only know what Colin has told me. My mom and dad both died when I was very young, and Colin took me in.”

“Did Colin ever tell you how they died?” I asked, treading lightly with her so she wouldn’t get upset.

“I’m sure he did at one point. I think he said they were in an accident.”

“Okay… so you at least know that isn’t true,” I pointed out.

“Yes. Thank you for telling me about my father.”

“There is something that I need to tell you and it may come as a complete surprise,” I waited until I had her full attention before telling her what I knew. “There might be a possibility that you have an older brother.”

I wasn’t sure how to judge her reaction. I couldn’t tell if she thought I was full of shit or if she was surprised to have been told this bit of information.

“What do you mean, I might have a brother? And who is he?”

As much as I wanted to tell her that it was Kyle, I had to make sure myself. The last thing that I wanted was to tell her who it was only to find out that he wasn’t. “Let me find out first if it is true before I tell you any more.”

In my effort to move the tray from her lap, I could tell she was upset with my last statement by the way the tray nearly spilled onto the white comforter. Scooting over to the other side of the bed, I caught her arm just in time. I should have let her go, but I needed her to know that I would find out. “Tessa, I want you to know that I will find out the truth.”

“How could you do that? Tell me that I might have a brother and then not tell me his name? That’s like telling someone they may look at the menu, but they can’t order,” she rationalized.

She was one hundred percent right. I never should have told her about Kyle. With no other option, I said, “Kyle Lincoln might be your brother.”

After going back and forth with her about Kyle, we decide that it was a moot point to argue until I could find out for sure if it was true. Her point was justified, since she knew him way before I came into the picture and he never gave any indication that they had been related. Another point she made was they didn’t even look alike. Tessa was right about that. There wasn’t any family resemblance, at least not the way there was between her and Jonathan. While Kyle’s hair was blond, on the verge of being white, Tessa’s was hazelnut in color. Then there was the difference in eye color, hers being a brilliant shade of blue and his being as brown as brown could be.

Finally, once I was able to convince her to eat, Tessa regained her appetite and digested everything on the tray. Picking up the empty tray, I suggested she take a shower while I headed downstairs to dispose of the empty plates and see if Jonathan was around. I wanted to confront him about what I overheard, but I needed to be very careful on what I said so that he didn’t get wind that I was listening to his conversation.

Agnes was still in the kitchen, only this time she was cleaning the breakfast dishes. Seeing what was left of breakfast on the counter, I began picking at the bacon and eggs before she turned around and caught me in the act. “Xavier, you are like a little kid getting his hand caught in the cookie jar.”

“Sorry, Agnes,” I apologized, “Tessa ate everything, and I hadn’t had my fill of your excellent cooking.”

“Well, then let me at least fix you a plate.”

As I sat down at the breakfast nook, Agnes began placing a sizable portion of everything on a plate and put it in the microwave to warm. I could tell that with everything she did, one thing she enjoyed the most was taking care of people. If ever I needed to have a housekeeper or a cook, I would certainly hire her in a minute. She was one in a million.

After finishing the meal that Agnes had prepared for me, I headed first to the dining room to see if Jonathan was there as Agnes stated. Just like she said, he was seated at the table reading the morning newspaper and drinking his coffee. Taking a seat next to him, I grabbed a cup that was sitting on a silver tray and poured myself a coffee. When a few minutes passed with no shared words, Jonathan finally asked, “Is there something on your mind?”

There had been something on my mind, I just didn’t know how to bring it up. Taking a sip of my coffee, I asked in a roundabout way, “So, any information on Kyle?”

Looking at me with confusion, he replied, “It was only yesterday that you had brought him to my attention. How would I have any information yet?”

He was right, unless of course someone, namely myself, overheard his conversation. “I just thought that you may have contacted someone regarding our conversation.”

“You are mistaken. I need to get some things done at the warehouse. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy your stay. Maybe you and Tessa can do something fun.” Jonathan was up and out of his seat before I could question him any further.

Heading back up the stairs, I decided to check in on Tessa to see if maybe she was up for a drive. She had been cooped up in this cabin for a while and a nice drive might do her some good. Hitting the top of the stairs, it could have been my imagination, but I could have sworn I heard Tessa talking with someone. When I had pushed open the door, my assumption was correct as she placed her phone on the stand next to the bed.

Feeling the need to know who it could have been, I asked, “Who were you talking to?”

It may have been a little sterner than I had wanted based on the way she jumped.

“It was a wrong number,” she confessed.

Having no reason not to believe her, I walked over to her, snuggling her from behind and kissed her lightly on the neck. Her head fell back, and I hel
d her close to my body as I said, “I think you need a break from here. What do you think about going for a little drive?”

Her body shifted, and she turned to face me. “I think that is a wonderful idea. Let me finish getting dressed and then we can go.

Taking a seat on the bed, I watched as she put on a pair of jeans and an off-the-shoulder floral shirt. The way her jeans hugged her body should have been illegal. If I hadn’t already volunteered to take her away from here, I would have suggested we stay so that I could have another round of pleasure with her.

I wasn’t sure where I was going, but knew the road leading away from Jonathan’s house had to go somewhere. My intention was to come upon another little town where we would be able to grab a bite to eat and maybe finish our conversation from this morning.

I had been driving for about an hour when we finally came upon a small town. Driving down the main street, I noticed the lack of cars and wondered if this town was deserted. The further I drove, I spotted a few cars here and there and wondered if maybe everything closed down for the weekend. Taking a chance, I turned off the main street and headed down one of the side streets.

I had followed the street for some time and thought it was better if I turned around and headed back to the main street. There had to be some place that Tessa and I could grab a bite to eat. Pulling onto the side of the road, I searched for the nearest restaurant on my GPS and prayed that something would come up that wasn’t too far away.

Getting very close to noon, as we drove further up the road we found there was a connecting town that had several restaurants to choose from. Driving in the direction of the next town, I looked over to Tessa and asked, “Is there anything special that you are hungry for?”

“I’m good with whatever you decide,” she replied.

I wasn’t sure she had even heard what I asked the way her eyes were focused on the side window. Taking a stab in the dark, I said, “There is a great restaurant up ahead that serves a mean worm soup.”

With her eyes still focused out the window, she said, “Sounds good to me.”

Removing my hand from the wheel, I placed it on her leg and said, “You know, if there is something bothering you, I’m all ears.”

Reverting her attention over to me, she looked down to where my hand was resting and placed hers on top. “I know.”

It wasn’t much, but at least I knew she heard what I had said. Focusing my attention on the road, we came upon the small town, I knew that the little café that I thought would be good was just up the street and to the right. Removing my hand, I settled it back on the steering wheel as I pulled into a parking space in front of the small diner. It must have been a popular place based on the customers that I could see inside through the front windows.

Helping Tessa out of the SUV, we walked inside the small diner where we were greeted by a middle-aged woman wearing an apron that looked to be handmade. Smiling at us she asked, “Just two for lunch?”

Nodding my head, I replied, “Yes, ma’am,” to show my respect.

Following behind her, we passed a couple of men who looked like they downed one too many beers. They also look like they just came down from the hills, wearing plaid flannel shirts and bibbed overalls. I guessed this was just the way it was around here. Come to think of it, everyone looked the same, Even the women who were enjoying their meal looked like some of the men.

Taking our seats, Tessa and I looked at one another thinking the same thing. With a chuckle from me and a sweet giggle from her, we both picked up our paper menus, which the diner spent little effort in designing, trying to decide what to eat. Maybe grabbing a bite to eat here wasn’t such a good idea. Choosing something that wouldn’t take a college degree to make, I ordered the club sandwich, while Tessa ordered a cheeseburger. She was a lot gutsier than I was and teamed her burger with fries.

When the waitress came back with our order, I was surprised to see how appetizing it actually looked. Sinking my teeth into the sandwich, the flavor rolled off my tongue and my taste buds were singing with enjoyment. I wasn’t sure what they put on the sandwich, but it was absolutely amazing. Even Tessa was enjoying her burger, her moans of delight bounced off the table after the first bite. It was no wonder that the parking out front was mostly taken.

Stuffing the last bite into my mouth, I was beyond full. The meal was one of the best that I had eaten, and before we left the diner, I left the waitress a sizable tip to give to the cook. I would have handed it to the cook myself, but I couldn’t bring myself to go back to the kitchen in fear of what I might find.

It was still early in the day and Tessa wasn’t ready to go back to the cabin. I told her we could take the scenic route, which she was all for. About five miles up the road, I had spotted a sign that said “Scenic Overlook.” I had never ventured this far away from LA since I moved here. I thought it would be nice to see some new territory.

Turning down the road that pointed to the overlook, the road was less than desirable to drive on. If I had to guess, not too many people traveled down this road. Putting the Range Rover in four-wheel drive, I slowly began climbing the rough road. It took some time, but by the time we got to the end of the road, it was well worth the trip. The view was magnificent. If I was about ten years younger this would have been a great place to make out.

Stopping the SUV as close to the edge as I could, I put the car into park and got out. It was a little chilly being this high and I thought that Tessa might want to wrap a blanket around herself before she got out. Walking to the back. I opened the hatch and grabbed a small blanket that I had thrown in at the last minute.

Opening her door, I waited until she got out before wrapping the blanket around her shoulders. She began to shiver and all I could think about was keeping her warm. Pulling her close to my body, I wrapped my arms around her. Staying where we were, with her back to my front, her head fell back against my chest as she said, “You can see everything from here.”

“That you can, baby,” I replied.

Twisting her body so that her front was now to mine, she lifted her head and looked up at me. The sun hit her beautiful eyes just right, casting a shade resembling a blue diamond on them. Never had I seen a more brilliant color of blue. Lowering my head, I placed my lips on hers and pushed my tongue inside. Our mouths came alive with heated desire as we began exploring and probing the contours of each other.

I wasn’t sure how much more I could take. All I knew was that I wanted her, and a kiss was only a taste of what I needed. Picking her up off the ground, I adjusted her body so I could carry her to the back of the SUV. Taking her here, right this minute, wasn’t the most romantic setting, but it was something that we both wanted. Laying her on the hard surface. I pushed the button on top of the back seat to lower it so that we would have plenty of room. The last thing I wanted was for this to be uncomfortable for her. Reaching over to the other side, I did the same thing to the other seat. With both seats lying flat, there was enough room to accommodate us.

Like wild animals, her being the tigress and me being the tiger, we began tearing at each other’s clothes trying to remove them as quickly as possible. There was nothing sexy about it, only the desire to consume one another. Layer by layer our clothes were peeled off. Pulling the blanket over us, I position my body above hers, ready to sink deep inside her warmth. It was then that I realized that I didn’t have a condom. “Shit, baby. I want you so bad, but we are going to have to wait.”

“It’s okay. I am on the pill and Colin has been making sure I get tested every month,” she confessed.

I knew I was also clean, having never gone without protection and having regular checkups. More than anything I wanted to feel her completely bare and knowing that Colin kept her safe, even if it was to save his own ass, was a comfort to me. Easing inside her warmth, I never wanted to sheath myself again. Tessa lifted her hips, rotating them while at the same time arching them to meet me thrust
for thrust. My cock seared into her, pushing deeper and deeper inside her heat. Lowering my head, I captured her breast and began sucking and kissing her hard pebble, wanting nothing more than to feel her juices coat my shaft. Focusing only on her pleasure, it didn’t matter where we were. All I cared about was giving her what she needed, what we both needed.

The sound of her moans ricocheted off the windows as a wave of pleasure secured the space inside her. I wasn’t sure what just happened between us, but there was calm in my heart knowing that I could bring her such pleasure. Slowing my pace until she came down, my only thought was to make sure she was fully satisfied. Wanting nothing more than to be taken to my own piece of heaven, I increased my thrusts, moving deep inside her tight channel, I waited until her breath hitched before accepting my own satisfaction. Unable to hold it back any longer, my own sounds of pleasure escaped and my release took over. We were wet with heated passion as my racing heart began to slow. Taking her in my arms, I held her tight and said, “No one will ever hurt you again.”
