Building Billions Part 3 Blurb
BY USA TODAY BESTSELLING Author, Lexy Timms.
A real man gives up one-night stands for the one he can't stand one night without.
Jimmy didn’t believe Ashley when she told him who was behind the fraud within the company. Even when it added up.
He didn’t want to believe it because the accused was a father figure to him, the first person to invest in his company and get it started.
Ashley’s had no option but to resign from her position. A man who can't trust you is a man you can't keep.
Now Jimmy’s on a mission; get Ashley back. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him and he just cannot lose her. He knows he’s been an idiot, but is it too late to try and win her back?
They say LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD, not a one-night stand.

Chapter 1
Jimmy
THE COMPANY WAS SAFE, but I felt like shit. As I sipped on my bourbon and stared out the windows of my apartment, my mind rushed back to Ashley. Seeing her empty office down the hallway every morning was too much. Opening my door and hoping she would come walking in like she used to hurt too much. I needed to hire a new accountant for the investors. They had gotten used to that kind of treatment. But no one could provide for them what Ashley had. No one could run the numbers like she could and forecast with the accuracy she was capable of.
The only other person I knew who could do that was already my COO.
My hair was mangled, and my tie was loosened. The buttons on my shirt were broken from tossing and turning the night before. I was sitting in two-day old clothes, staring out a window I had once pressed Ashley up against.
Every part of my apartment was marked with her somehow.
I felt like I was bobbing alone in the sea, lost without an oar or a buoy to mark my way. The city skyline was beginning to tilt as I downed the rest of my drink, and then I let it slip from my fingers.
It clattered to the floor and sprayed the back of my pants.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her. Those beautiful eyes and that wondrous smile. I could hear her giggles echoing off the corners of my mind. There were moments throughout the day when I swore I could smell her or hear her padding down the hallway to get coffee after sleeping next to me. Her sleep-tousled hair and her scent lingered in the memories of my senses.
I ached to have her back.
My phone rang out from my room, and I jumped. Was that Ashley? Was she finally calling me back? My socks slipped over the dusty hardwood floor as I ran to my room. I stumbled with my phone in my hands as I took the call, hoping and praying it was her.
Instead, it was the one person I wanted to burn, the one person I wanted to throw screaming and crying off a fucking cliff.
“Jimmy? It’s me.”
“What the hell do you want, Markus?”
“I want a chance to explain myself,” he said.
“Too bad.”
“Wait, wait, wait! Jimmy, please.”
Maybe it was the desperation in his voice or the defeated sigh that came after. I don’t know what possessed me to put the phone back to my ear, but I did. I returned to my chair in silence and flopped down, watching as the sun sank below the skyline of Miami, a city I had quickly come to hate.
“What?” I asked.
“I care about you, Jimmy, and I never meant to hurt you.”
“This as good as it gets? Because I’ve got shit to clean up after what you pulled,” I said.
“You’re like a son to me, Jimmy. None of this was supposed to come down on your head.”
“And what was the grand plan, hm? Keep stealing from underneath my nose? Keep embezzling from a company you helped me create before ratting me out to the media and destroying my reputation? Was that you who started the social media scandal? Because right now, I have a feeling it was.”
“No, that wasn't me. You know me better than that.”
“No, I sure as hell do not,” I said. “You treating me like a son ended when you stole from me. I trusted you. Saw you as a father I never had. Then you went and did exactly what my father did.”
“You don’t mean that.”
“Yes, I do. My father was a drunk and a hack and a fake. Instead of working for his money, he wanted to drink away whatever he could beg from others. That’s what you did. You ran your company into the ground, and instead of admitting defeat, you stole from me to fuel a company that should’ve gone under a long time ago. My father didn’t know when to admit he’d failed and start again, and neither do you.”
“I was going to pay the money back. I’m serious. Three million dollars, Jimmy.”
“Against twenty million!”
“I had it ready. I had a deal sitting on the books that would’ve recouped the money I took and gotten my company back on the map,” he said.
“You wanna know what the shittiest part about all of this is?” I asked.
“What?” he asked.
“Had you come to me with the truth and asked me for money, I would’ve fucking loaned it to you. In a damn heartbeat.”
The silence on the end of the line was deafening. I snickered and shook my head as tears rose to my eyes. I was just drunk enough to allow my emotions to spill over. I was just drunk enough to allow myself to be weak and feel as lost as I felt and to be as angry as I knew I had a right to be.
“I hope you rot,” I said.
“Jimmy, wait. Don’t hang—”
I hung up the call and immediately dialed Ashley. I knew she would make me feel better. If I could only get her to pick up the phone, it would make everything better. Even if she yelled at me and cussed me out and told me she never wanted to see me again, the simple effort of taking my call would’ve helped. It w
ould’ve given me hope.
But like it had been over the last two days, my call went straight to voice mail. I listened to her voice and closed my eyes as her soft tones wafted against my ear. I imagined she was talking to me and smiling with that dazzling smile while her eyes twinkled up at me. She held the stars in her eyes for me, ripped her chest open and handed me her heart. And I had torn her down. Yelled at her. Called her a fucking Nina.
What the hell was I thinking?
I hung up and dialed again, but this time it didn’t even ring. It went straight to her voice mail over and over again. She was ignoring me and my calls. There was nothing I could do about that.
There was nothing I could do aside from go to her apartment and sit until she answered.
I threw my phone against the window, and it shattered into a million pieces. I roared into my apartment, my body curling in on itself. I screamed until my face turned red and then screamed until I was hoarse. I put my elbows on my knees and raked my hands through my hair, my voice wheezing through my lips.
I wanted to go to her apartment. I wanted to sit there until she answered. I wanted to linger outside until she was forced to come out and see me, but I wasn’t going to harass her. I wasn’t going to force her to see me. She was better than that. She deserved better than that.
I loved her more than that.
The phone next to my bed rang out, and I groaned. Who the fuck was trying to call me on a damn Sunday? Didn’t people get the picture that I didn’t fucking do anything on Sundays? How many times did I have to tell people not to fucking bother me on my motherfucking Sundays?
I stormed into the room and grabbed my phone, ready to slam it against the wall. It kept ringing and ringing in the palm of my hand, waiting for me to answer it.
And when I saw it was Ross, I decided to go ahead and take it.
