She flicked it.
A sharp object sprang out.
Fuck that. On instinct, my cock twitched away. A four-inch sharp object near my cock? No way. I took a step back. “What is that?”
“A scalpel.”
“That’s not standard procedure. Use the laser.”
“This laser burns your skin. It’s calibrated for human grafts. Besides, I’m better with the scalpel than with the laser. Don’t worry, Mr. Tough Guy, I aim to fix you, not butcher you.”
I contemplated this. A fae female would’ve stabbed me for refusing to read her mating clues, and Rain threw around all kinds of clues. From the heels to the hair to the damn red dress. And knickers? I didn’t even want to think about the word knickers, which I’d learned on my trip to Great Britain. The only great thing about that place was knickers and lots of rain. Rain. Would she try to stab me? Had someone told her about fae females? It was mating time.
“You don’t trust me,” she said.
The spark in her expressive eyes dimmed.
I ground my teeth. I didn’t know shit about human females, which they call women, but I knew I didn’t like seeing this one upset. “Incorrect. Get on with it,” I said.
Rain placed a small round skin graft on top of my skin.
She aimed the scalpel to cut precisely around it. The blade sliced a thin, shallow cut. She paused for my reaction. I locked my hands behind my neck, gesturing that she should continue. As she circled with the sharp blade, I watched her mouth while she worked. A little tongue peeked between her lips. It did that often. It was sweet, and I’d tried the same tongue trick with my own work. When I stuck my tongue out while working, it helped me concentrate as well. Lots to learn from the Earthlings.
Rain tilted her head and looked up again. We locked eyes, and I registered emotion in hers. Sometimes I understood her feelings, and sometimes I didn’t, because she was an alien to me. Besides, humans’ eyes were an entry to their soul, though I tried not to dive too far into hers. Rain carried a pure soul, the main reason why I believed our souls had aligned. To torture me. A punishment for abandoning my home. A pure soul I wanted to explore and bond with mine but never would. The only thing I had going for me? A fae who’d found his mate was a faithful fae. Rain and I could dance around each other in celibacy all our lives. I didn’t have a problem with that. Before arriving in Earth’s space, we’d traveled without females onboard for decades.
“Yes?” I asked when she didn’t continue working on me.
“It’s in my way.” She pointed.
I fisted my cock and moved it away so it didn’t—accidentally, of course—slap her face. I stuck my damn tongue out as I concentrated on not stroking it. Or face-slapping her with it. Yeah, that’d go well for me.
She peeled off my skin, leaving my gray flesh exposed.
“Where did you get the graft?” I asked. Down there on Earth, some human dude was walking around without a piece of skin on his leg or wherever on his body she got the graft from.
“Cross, my neighbor, tested as compatible,” she said. “I skinned him.” The grafts needed to be compatible and they had to be taken from the living and not from the dead. It had to do with our fae snaga, what the humans called magic. They liked to call it magic so we sounded like fairy-tale creatures. One of their psychologists had once told me it made them feel better knowing they lived alongside magical creatures, because the tales said the fae males were warm, fluffy princes on white horses. After my first Halloween on Earth, I’d concluded they were all crazy. So I let them call snaga whatever they wanted.
Knowledge of the Dark Fae’s death snaga wasn’t for everyone anyhow.

After I’d worked on Titan, I went on a short break before compiling a priority list of males whose grafts were oldest and nearly dysfunctional. I’d work on them after lunch. Which I would eat with Titan, something I normally didn’t do. Onboard the ship, I stayed in my alcove inside his quarters, where I ordered lunch and had it brought to me, per Titan, at one o’clock sharp. Today, before my lunchtime, I picked up both our lunches from the main kitchen and found Titan inside his office on the lower deck.
The door slid open, and, before he protested, I heeled my way to the other end of the office and placed a tray with our plates and drinks on his desk. Titan’s face registered surprise at seeing me here, but I smiled sweetly as if we shared a lunch every single day. I plopped my ass on his table, my dress sliding up my thigh while the wood under it warmed my cold skin. His eyes followed the dress. I brushed my hand over the seam and pushed it up higher on my hip.
He tilted his head, eyes on my bare thigh. “Is there a problem?”
“No, just thought I’d get your lunch.”
“Mm-hm. Thank you. Would you please have a seat on one of the seven chairs in my office?”
“You sit on my desk,” I said.
“I can do whatever I want inside my quarters with my employee onboard my ship.”
“Hm. Here I thought you didn’t want to do anything.”
“The chair, Rain.” His eyes snapped up.
“I’m good right here. At least I’m not naked. I have a dress while—”
“That is not a dress, it’s a glorified fig leaf.”
I shrugged, thinking tomorrow I’d wear a slightly longer one. I picked up his fork, stabbed a vegetable, and brought it to his lips. “Potato?”
He swatted the fork, and it flew against the wall. I picked it up, making sure I bent at the waist. Sitting back on his desk, I put the fork down and picked up mine. “You don’t like potatoes. Fine. Yours is dirty now, so we’ll have to share my fork.” I forked a piece. “Chicken?”
“I don’t share,” he said.
“You’re not hungry?”
“Starving.”
“So eat.”
Our wills battled, neither of us pretending this conversation was about the food. I’d brought it all out this mating season. It was my last effort, my last chance, and if he refused me, I’d have to leave for my own good. I didn’t want to leave. I loved my job. And my boss.
“Come here,” he said, and I leaned over the table.
A large hand cupped the back of my neck, and he brought our lips an inch apart. “Listen to me, little. You playing with me at this time of year is a bad idea.”
“I like playing.”
“You don’t know the game.”
“Sure I do.”
He swiped my lips with his tongue. Heat pooled in my belly when he closed his eyes at the taste of me, and then he was back with a soft kiss, a peck on my lips. But I wanted more. I pressed his lips with mine and pushed my tongue inside his mouth. He took it and bit down gently, then kept it between his teeth while flicking the end of my tongue with his. I’d never been kissed like this before, but I’d also never been with another fae. I let him do whatever the fae did.
His teeth let go, and he groaned. Our tongues swirled when he kissed me in earnest, his hand at the back of my neck, pulling my body toward his. I climbed over his desk and crawled on all fours to sit on his lap with my bare thighs rubbing over his rough jeans. I sat on him, and the buttons of his jeans hit my pussy. I kissed him back. I rocked and moaned into his mouth.
He tilted my head, and left my neck exposed.
He bit.
I yelped in surprise and felt pressure rise in the room. I looked around. The neon-blue lights surrounding the office glowed brighter. Titan was doing something. Was it his mating mojo? I didn’t dare hope, but I hoped anyway. The neon-blue lights encircling the office space blinked erratically, the walls groaned. Titan worked his power; he had to be doing this. I rocked on top of him, moaning at his taste. Wet and wanting, I rocked, ready to come on the cock he’d denied me. Shamelessly, I still rubbed on it anyway, because a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
I had to do Titan.
Titan
Rain didn’t wear knickers to work. In the near future, I was gonna have to correct that, but right now I
tried not to think about her wet pussy on my cock. I didn’t want to have to correct the knickers thing and didn’t want to think about the sweetest little pussy sliding back and forth on my cock. Briefly, I’d touched her soul with mine. A brush only to feel my girl a little as she enjoyed herself, and all the while, I sweated balls, thinking that if she moaned anymore, I’d have to let myself mate her. But I wouldn’t. I held snaga away from her, when all I wanted to do was wrap it around her little neck and end her life. Let the wraiths—our dead fae army—take her soul in the name of Titan’s mating.
And there it was. My truth. Bared. With her, all my power felt like a curse. My people weren’t Dark Fae because we were fluffy, warm, cuddly bastards. We carried snaga, and as the Titan of the Dark Fae, I carried it in death.
Rain moaned louder, bringing my thoughts back to now.
Her little tits were bigger today. I ran a thumb under her bra, and she slowed her pace. I knew why. She didn’t want me to know about the silicone in her bra, but I wasn’t an idiot. In any case, I didn’t give a shit about the size of her tits. If they were attached to her, I liked them. Shit. I rewarded my girl with a squeeze on her hip, and when I tried to move my hand away, she slapped hers on top of mine and said, “Stay.”
I couldn’t deny her this. It wasn’t right. It’d snuff out her confidence, and she didn’t have much of it left. A bleached blonde. I didn’t care if her hair was purple. Her face flushed red with pleasure, and the bottom lip she never bit or worried between her teeth pouted. When the flush intensified, the red color spreading from her face to her neck, I realized she was embarrassed and not pleased. Sometimes I read her alien emotions wrong, so I reflected. I’d been sitting here while she enticed me to fuck her. She thought I wasn’t interested. I couldn’t fuck her, but I wasn’t a total dick. On most days.
My fingers played over her hips, and when she didn’t move again and I saw how embarrassed she was, I gripped them both and guided her over the cock in my pants. She moaned again, and I smiled at her, encouraging her to continue. “Come here.” I wanted to kiss her again.
She bent and touched her lips to mine, and I loved the way her fingers played little spider legs in my hair as I moved her back and forth and she assaulted my mouth. So much passion inside her. I had to get her off. All this unsated passion walking around my ship with all the other fae motherfuckers wasn’t something I wanted for her.
“Oh, Titan,” she whispered against my lips. “I’m coming.”
She picked up her pace. A small wooden four-leaf clover pendant bounced on her chest. I couldn’t help it. I moved the dress under her left tit and stared at her little pale nipple. I didn’t suck it. I couldn’t, or I’d lose my shit, but I kissed the top of her breast when she came on my cock and told her that her tits were beautiful.

The next day—day two of the mating season—hand poised on the doorknob to Titan’s quarters, I twisted and pushed. My nose kissed the door. Great. I rubbed my nose, then twisted and pushed the knob again, but it didn’t open. Yesterday, the platinum-blonde look had gotten me some Titan lovin’. I intended to bleach and grow my hair, so after I got home from work, Apple and I had researched the best way to bleach hair without making it fall out from the chemicals. Even while helping me, Apple had cursed Titan, telling me he wasn’t worth the trouble. I ignored her because she was really bad for my positive attitude. The negativity suffocated me. I loved my sister, and she looked out for me, but I really couldn’t wait to leave my apartment and get to work inside his quarters. Did he think about me after I’d left his office yesterday? He’d given me a tough new project to work on. Maybe he wanted me to work instead of chase after him. Likely.
I frowned at the door. Had he forgotten to unlock it? Titan valued routine above all else. How could he forget? Fist on the door, I pounded so he could hear me in the shower. “Titan!” I shouted when he didn’t open. “I’m here!”
I twisted the knob and pushed.
The door stayed closed.
I pushed again.
Nothing.
I knocked. “Titan!”
When he didn’t answer, I pressed my ear against the door. I didn’t hear the shower, but I heard my heart pick up its pace. I’d worked on both Titan and Dohan yesterday, implanted them with new grafts and fresh anti-iron serum. And neither of them were here this morning.
They’d left for Earth.
Empty pain cut through my body, and I felt as if a fist squeezed my heart. I leaned against the door. There were millions of women on Earth. Titan could pick any country, any custom, any type. All at his disposal. I turned and pressed my fingers on my temple when I felt light-headed. It didn’t help, so I slid down to the floor and leaned my back on his door. Luckily for me, Dohan wasn’t around to witness. I hadn’t anticipated Titan leaving for Earth. I probably should have. I should’ve left his grafting for last or simply ripped the damn graft from his shoulder.
“Rain?”
“Good Lord!” I startled, hand over my heart. “You scared the crap out of me.”
“Sorry,” Dohan said. “You got moved.” He leaned his shoulder against the opposite wall. “Wanna get up?”
“What do you mean I got moved?” I stood and straightened my dress. “Moved where?” I barely uttered those words past the lump in my throat.
“Moved to an office. Bunch of us cleared up Titan’s new office last night. He planned on moving but changed his mind and gave it to you. Got a view to die for and all set up with your things.”
I pounded Titan’s door. “Let me in!”
“You could try huffing. Maybe it’ll give.”
I narrowed my eyes at the fairy-tale reference. “Where is he?”
“Already left.”
“He never leaves. It’s nine o’clock. He’s in the shower and can’t hear me. Right?”
“He’s not in there.”
“Titan!”
“Come on, I’ll show you to your office, it’s right by—”
I pushed past him, then halted in my step. I didn’t want to be rude. “Thank you. I know where it is.”
“I know you know, but I’ll escort you anyway.”
“Why?”
“Because”—he spoke slowly, drawing out all the words—“we are in mating, and you’re the only available human woman on the ship. Someone will snatch your little ass and tie you up to the bed until you say ‘eat me.’”
“Well, if it’s not Titan, I’ll stab him in the eye with my pen. Maybe I’ll stab Titan too. Don’t know.”
“You don’t want that kind of a mating. Come on.” Hand intertwined with mine, he led me to an elevator. I stomped my feet, hoping the floors cracked in my wake.
Inside, Dohan ordered the elevator to descend to the business floor.
“What kind of a mating is that mating?” I asked.
Eyes trained on the ceiling, he didn’t reply.
Ping. The elevator opened, and he tugged my hand.
I tugged back. “What kind?”
“Watch your step.” He jerked my hand, leading me past the group of foot-tall creatures fiddling with envelopes in their hands. Titan called them “pets,” so I figured when they’d left their home, they took their pets with them. I thought it considerate. The pets were cute, furry with big eyes and long ears that stood upright. I bent to pet one, even though the ship’s business deck full of fae males had gone silent when we entered. The creature purr-snorted, and so I scratched behind his ear. “You’re such a nice boy,” I said.
“No, don’t—”
The creature snapped his teeth. I jerked my hand away at the last minute.
“They work and hate being disturbed.”
“They have big teeth.” I’d seen a few of them before, but not often. They kept to the lower decks, and I rarely wandered around the ship. Dohan led me around the corner and to the very end of a long, narrow hallway. Inside, my new office had been set. My wooden desk and the pair of lamps at either end of it glowed, lighting up the
room in a dim blue shade. A pet sat on top of a medical examination bed pushed against the left wall. “What’s it doing here?” I asked.
“Titan gave you an assistant. It’s a she, by the way. Good luck,” Dohan said and left, laughter following him.
Confused, I stood by the door. The office was great and spacious, but I wasn’t interested in a new office. I sat behind my desk and pinched my lips, unsure what to do. The she-pet smiled and showed me her big teeth. I winced. What the hell was I supposed to do with it, and why was it here?
“Why are you here?” I asked.
It grumbled—probably spoke—but I couldn’t understand a word. I shrugged off my coat. At the sight of me, she whistled through her teeth and clapped her short, stubby hands. Feeling a little awkward in front of an audience, I replaced my sneakers with high-heeled, knee-high, black leather boots. After checking the mirror, I smacked my lips and walked out, determined to leave the ship. When I passed Titan’s old office, where only yesterday he’d made me feel like I sat on top of the world, my step faltered.
Titan sat behind his desk, his head bent over the papers in front of him, coffee in one hand and a pencil in the other. I hadn’t seen him on the way to my office, so he’d just returned. It was only about ten in the morning.
Titan
Rain walked past my office on her way to her new one while I hid in the shadows so she couldn’t see me. I had to get her out of my quarters, or I’d fuck her silly this morning. During the mating season, thoughts of her haunted me. Her perfume hadn’t left my quarters either, and my cock wouldn’t go down because I’d breathed her in all night long. So, early this morning, after I’d jerked off in the shower, I decided to air out my room and give her my new office.
I shifted in my chair and didn’t look up when she stood at my door. The jerking off didn’t do shit for me. I should really take up Dohan on the offer to bring me a blow-up doll from Earth. Everyone onboard the ship got one, except me. The dolls came in all shapes and sizes and we—the fae—loved all women. For over two decades, we’d roamed the galaxy without females, and it had almost gotten us all killed. We learned to appreciate females, didn’t nitpick once we liked one.
