At the entrance to the sports centre my new group of friends are flowing out and onto the pavement. I raise my arm to James. He doesn’t acknowledge me and he even appears to step back into the shadow of the building. Maybe a manic fifty-something-year-old now behind the wheel of a car, waving like an enthusiastic nutcase, scares him.
He doesn’t appear to recognise me. I don’t know why. I must have stabbed him at least twelve times.
‘ALL FOR ONE,’ I shout out of the sunroof but no-one shouts back.
They’re probably terrified that I’ll return next week.
