Crush on the Alpha Bear (Alpha Bears Book 4) Page 12

by Emilia Hartley

As if to answer, Emily slowly and seductively pushed down on the waistband of her jeans and underwear, letting them fall lazily to the dirt and leaves below. "I don't know," she breathed, voice husky with lust. "But I'm willing to find out if you are."

  Chapter Sixteen

Adam undressed with none of the same enticing lure or finesse that Emily had displayed. His bear grunted and growled already in anticipation, willing him to keep moving quickly before someone or something interrupted them.

His eyes dug into her, as he watched Emily, the very sight of her like the coolest water on a hot day. She was a sumptuous buffet for him to behold. He was starving and she had finally given him permission to eat. “Well?” she asked, her face tilted up expectantly and open. He detected a gleam in her eye that conveyed confidence and strength when only moments before, she had been blushing and shy. He didn't know which Emily he loved more.

He didn't need much prompting to finally step forward. He seized her chin in his hand and laid his lips upon hers as his other hand began to explore her body. He trailed white circles over her breasts itching lightly at her nipples and loving how it made her gasp and shudder against him for traveling lower. Hands ran over her hips taking a moment to pull her even closer before continuing on their journey. He only backed away slightly to trail his hands over the front of her, sliding playfully over her clit. Her breath began to come even quicker. Almost instantly taking it as an unspoken invitation, Adam didn't hesitate a moment longer. He thrust one finger deep inside of her.

Emily cried out loudly, her voice echoing and ricocheting off of the trees of the forest. Adam roared in unison, filling him was a figure and resolve that he had never experienced before in his life. This was better than being an Alpha, this was better than being a pack leader. Being with Emily was better than any single moment in his entire life. It was in that moment that he knew completely and wholly that being with her was the only true destiny that he had in this lifetime.

“I love you so much,” Emily whimpered, her body squirming and writhing around his moving fingers before her knees nearly buckled from the pleasure.

Adam caught her, easily lowering her gently to the forest floor without ceasing to pleasure her. Fingers moved in and out of her effortlessly, keeping in time with the frantic rise and fall of her chest. Her back was arched in elation as her hands curled uncontrollably in the dirt and leaves as she reacted to his touch.

Without prompting Adam hooked another finger inside of her wet hot center and quickened the pace. A squeal of voracity trickled from Emily's lips as she rocked beneath them, quickly becoming overwhelmed with how much his ministrations affected her. Her breath came in ragged gasps and her feet dug deeply into the damp forest floor as he worked to pleasure her.

“Adam,” Emily gasped weakly. Before she could say anything more, Adam pulled his fingers from inside of her, pushing himself up over her body in an instant. There he allowed himself to stare deeply into this article of her bright blue eyes, as he firmly pressed his erection deeply and completely into Emily's wet center.

Emily cried out in pure bliss. She had needed him like this for so long. Adam barely made a sound. He didn't want to miss anything about the beautiful girl beneath him. He watched as her face contorted in pleasure. He reveled in the way she bit the tip of her tongue before she was about to whimper. The way her nose scrunched up just a bit before his next thrust, made his heart melt for her. He wanted to take in all of her, everything there was to know and everything he'd missed in the five years despite the obliviousness of her love for him. He was done making her wait for him any longer – he would give all of him to her.

He pumped into her quickly and roughly, changing the pace a few times, depending on how she reacted. She seemed to enjoy it most when he lost a little of his control. An inexplicably rough thrust or surprising angle generally made her scream her elation to the canopy of leaves above. He relished emotion she displayed, etching the memory of them into his mind so that he never forget what made her happy. He didn't slow down even when he felt his own breath beginning to come quicker and more ragged than before. His only goal was to keep Emily as pleasured and content as possible. He didn't want this moment to end but together with her in the darkness of the forest what he wanted didn't matter. He only wished to be everything Emily would ever need for the rest of her days in the Silent Meadows pack.

Emily suddenly cried out beneath him, her body shaking with the threat of their impending orgasms. Quivering with every moan and as she gripped fistful after fistful of dirt and twigs Adam could feel himself reaching the precipice as well he knew that neither of them would last much longer still he didn't slow. He thrust eagerly and intently into her and every whimper that spilled from her lips washed him in a shower of sparks and static shocks. Adam gripped tightly onto Emily's forearms, holding her down on the forest floor as he thrust time and time again, letting the sensations of her quivering around him captivate his entire being. Adam felt the gasping of her impending climax on his face. It drowned him in ecstasy to have this effect on her. When her sex clenched around him, he knew they had reached their limit together.

The orgasm they had built together was a sudden entity that crashed upon them simultaneously. Adam was immediately enveloped in the power they had generated. It was electrifying in its intensity, making him cry out under its weight. He felt Emily stiffening underneath him as she shouted out her pleasure skyward; her body nearly curling in on itself as she let the orgasm over take her as well. When the waves of passion finally receded, they both lay collapsed and sweaty in a tangled heap, so comfortable in one another's embrace.

Cuddling on the forest floor, Adam took the moment to just bask at the amazement at how amazing Emily was. He looked down at her, watching her chest rise and fall exhaustively as she worked to catch her breath. Her eyes were still closed in contentment as she snuggled closely to him. He realized that he would give anything for an eternity of moments like these with Emily.

A nearby snap of a twig followed by a soft gasp made both Adam and Emily jump up unexpectedly.

“Did you see that?” Emily asked, eyes wide with alarm and what looked like a bit of worry.

Adam looked around, instinctively fearing she may have seen one of the enemy bears from earlier, but he saw nothing. “No, but I heard something.”

Emily nodded. “I heard something like a gasp, but over there,” she said pointing to an especially dim part of the forest, “I thought I saw a person." Adam looked to where she was pointing, and again saw nothing in its depths. That panicked worry returned to her eyes. “It almost looked like…”

He was just about to deny her claim, when the startling scent of an earlier enemy bear actually did waft to his nose. He was up in an instant.

"Get dressed, get to Nick. Tell him there's trouble," he ordered.

Emily was already shaking her head, “We’re both supposed to run and get help,” she said. “Remember, Nick’s first rule was that neither of us is to fight.”

Adam agreed silently, but there was no way that he would risk taking the time for both of them to get dressed and alert the others. If this fight leaked out into the town, it would be infinitely harder to contain, infinitely harder to win. "Don't you worry about me,” he replied tersely. “Just go. Now. I'll be fine."

Emily tossed him a concerned look as she dressed. She pulled on her shoes, turning back to him with a scared expression. "Please be careful Adam," she said. Adam only nodded in response, his attention never once turning from the direction the scent had traveled from.

As Emily dashed out of the woods, Adam knelt down on all fours, immediately beginning his shift. His body was still recovering from his time with Emily, so the change was slow and more painful than he had expected it to be. As bones broke and reformed, he bit down on his tongue to keep from crying out as the bear slowly rose out from under his skin.

As fur sprouted along his body, tilting his snout automatically to scent for the enemy,
a large mass tackled him from the side.

Adam was sent sprawling across the forest floor, toppling end over end, still under the daze of his fresh shift.

“Oh, was I interrupting?" came a low harsh voice as Adam fought to right himself.

Adams vision cleared to the site of one of the biggest bears he had ever seen. For one small moment Adam truly believed that he wouldn't make it out of the forest if that bear attacked him again, but he shook that thought away quickly. Taking one more whiff of the massive bear, Adam was almost certain that this was Dominic the bear that was causing the most problems for Forest Haven in this war. From all of their talks about the Northern Wind pack, he knew that Dominic wasn't an Alpha. Despite his size, he probably would have enough strength to take him on. The thought wasn't completely encouraging but it was all he had to keep going.

Emily was going to bring back help, too, he reminded himself. All he needed to do was last until then.

As Adam steeled his resolve, Dominic took a surprisingly quick lunge. Adam narrowly dodged the powerful swipe of Dominic's paw as it raked by him in a blur.

"Is that trash pack still recruiting children to fight their battles for them," Dominic growled menacingly.

Adam snorted derisively. “Against a lowlife beta bear like you? Children are more than enough.”

Dominic snarled furiously before launching himself at the young alpha.

For all the talk, Adam only barely dodged Dominic’s onslaught of attacks, each one seeming to come quicker than the last. It was only a matter of time before Adam’s body would be too exhausted to avoid another swift attack. Meanwhile, Dominic looked like he was just getting started.

Dominic came at him yet again, body rising high off the ground as he dove for Adam. Adam stumbled gracelessly out of the way once more, already planning for the next leap.

Something snapped as Dominic landed hard on the ground, displacing his landing and knocking him off balance. In a flash, Adam saw his only chance to attack.

He rocketed himself towards the fallen bear. Lifting his paw high overhead, he saw a moment of fear fizzle in Dominic’s gaze. With a triumphant rattle of his chest, Adam arced the paw downward, too quick for Dominic to retaliate.

A blur of brown darted from the nearby brush, knocking Adam backward. The two bears tumbled and turned down a small decline, the logs and trees that rested below jarring Adam’s spine as he fell upon them.

His body screamed in agony, but he knew he had to stand. He had to keep going, despite the fact that he could hardly take Dominic, let alone two bears at once. Just a while longer, he thought, and Emily would be back. She’ll have help, he consoled himself.

He rose to stand but a heavy paw stomped down angrily on his chest. He opened his mouth to roar in pain, but it came out at a guttural wheeze.

“What a dull fight,” Dominic growled sardonically. “It seems not even alphas are a match for me anymore.” He almost sounded bored.

That sense of defeat enveloped Adam once more, and this time it lingered. There was no more time left. Even if he struggled, trash talked, and begged for mercy, Emily wouldn’t be back in time. David wouldn’t be able to save him. He wasn’t alpha enough. He wasn’t ready to fight. He wasn’t ready to lead.

  He’d failed.

In a roar of fury, twin blurs of mass tackled Dominic to the side, throwing him off of Adam’s pinned body in the process.

Adam didn’t stop to wonder why or how; he immediately used his newfound freedom to leap to his paws and back to a safe distance.

“Looks like we were just in time,” Nick grunted, already backing away in preparation for Dominic’s retaliation.

“Why the hell didn’t you leave with Emily?” Tom snarled back at Adam, teeth snapping together in anger.

Adam allowed himself a small moment to be embarrassed by his actions, but in reality, seeing the two brother bears finally in action, he couldn’t be happier at their timing.

  Chapter Seventeen

Adam didn't have time to respond to Tom's complaint before all hell broke loose

Bears started jumping into the clearing faster than he could count them, some he knew some he didn't. He watched as Savanna took down a smaller stranger that was sneaking up behind Lucy and how his father batted away to bears that thought they could best him. Dan was easy to spot in the melee, huge paws flailing as he took on three bears by himself. All the while Nick and Tom turned their attentions to Dominic, assuring the rest of the pack that he wouldn't interfere. Adam searched the crowd frantically for the bear that tackled him down the hill but he was nowhere to be found. He kept his eyes peeled for the hidden bear and any others that may not have shown up yet.

Dominic snarled smugly. You're outnumbered Alphas. You really think you'll stand a chance against me?" As he spoke even more bears slinked out of the woodwork. Lucy turned to latch down on a quickly dissenting bear, taking it to the ground with her underneath it. Savanna was still fighting the first bear she'd encountered when another stranger joined in to fight against her. They both charged her at the same time but when they got within paw's length of her, Emily leapt in to herd one of them off.

Adams heart spiked as he saw her act and for a split second those old visions of her lying in a bloodied heap rushed back to the forefront of his mind. He shook the thoughts away they wouldn't do him any good now. Everyone was fighting and he, an Alpha, was sitting back and watching it all unfold. He needed to be better than this.

As if in agreement, the bear that had tackled him earlier launched from the darkness to his left. Adam saw him coming as he descended, able to dodge the blow easily. Compared to the massive bear, Dominic, the smaller bear was easy enough for Adam to handle alone.

Undistracted by Dominic, Adam was able to dispatch the smaller bear that he was facing quickly enough. But as he did, more bears were there in its place. Taking a quick glance around the battlefield, it seemed to be a common occurrence; Dominic's bears seemed to be multiplying in number, while the two small Alpha packs remained the same. Though Forest Haven and the Flatlands packs seem to be holding their own pretty well, Adam couldn't help but think that if too many more bears appeared, this wouldn't be a fight that they could win.

As he faced off against the two bears, a roar sounded behind him that chilled his body to its core. He raked his hands down at one of the assaulting bears’ faces. It roared out in pain, stumbling backwards into the second bear and offered Adam enough time to turn around and see that Emily had been pinned down by one of Dominic's bears. Its teeth were buried deep into the side of her neck as it tore at the meat and muscle. If they kept going, Emily would surely die. The two bears that Adam was facing righted themselves once more and began bearing down on him yet again. If he turned away from them for even a second, they would pounce. He didn't know what his options were but everything inside him and his bear were screaming to save his mate.

With a panicked roar, he charged the two bears in front of him. He tackled one square in its upright body, allowing his claws to latch onto wherever they could hold, tearing for in skin beneath them. Catching the bear by surprise, he had enough time to latch down hard on its throat, tearing jaggedly until blood spilled across to snout. Figuring that was enough damage for one, he broke away to face down the other bear. Something like fear shined in its eyes as it took the first tentative step backwards before turning and lumbering away with the same speed that it had come into the fight. Adam glanced down at the bear he just attacked; it wasn't moving.

He figured he should feel something about that, but now wasn't the time. Emily was in trouble.

He turned to charge the bear that had her pinned down, but in the time that he had downed his own bear she was already back up and into the fight. The bear that had had her in its jaws was nowhere to be found. He took the time to give her a quick once over, noticing that she had blood running down her neck and a little on her snout but overall she seemed okay to fight. His bear screamed at him to stay by her side and protect h
er at all costs but he knew that she wouldn’t want that. Instead he got her attention to let her know that he was watching before tearing off to Dan who now faced off against four bears.

Dan appeared to be in rough shape. He wasn’t an Alpha like the other males of the packs, and facing off against multiple bears seemed to be taking a toll on him quicker than it would on Adam, his father or the Alpha brothers. Of course none of them were facing off against four bears at once either. It didn't matter either way. Dan seemed to need the most help, so that's where Adam went. He charged the enemy bears not slowing even when he caught one with a tackle. At almost the same time Tom took down another. With a grunt of gratitude, Dan charged the last remaining bears that were both too distracted by Adam and Tom's arrival to brace for impact. Just as Dan was a large human, he was also a large bear; he took out the remaining two bears easily enough.

Out of the corner of his vision Adam could just make out the standoff between Nick and Dominic. Neither of them seemed particularly scathed but both of their chests were pumping in a way that showed they'd come to blows at least once before.

"It's only a matter of time before one of your little weaklings cries out for help," Dominic snarled. "And when you turn around to help them I'm going to tear your fucking throat out."

Nick didn't dignify it with a response, taking Dominic's trash talking as a chance to lunge in a surprise attack. Dominic narrowly dodged the next assault, retaliating quickly enough by lashing out with one of his paws. It caught Nick in the shoulder but as Nick jumped away he seemed wholly unfazed by the blow.

"More bears will come," Dominic roared. "And when they do, your shitty pack will be ripped to tatters!" He charged at Nick, but Nick moved out of the way quickly enough, still not responding. Adam could see the cool calculation in his eyes as he fought against the large bear, and a part of him could admire the skill it took for Nick to think on his feet. He knew in that moment that he still had much to learn about being an Alpha. Maybe after all this was finished he could ask for some pointers?
