I Heard It All Before Page 18

“We can do that.” Cam smiled

“Good, that will make your grandmother happy. You can stay out here for a while if you want to. Come back in whenever you get ready,” his grandfather said while patting him on the back and walking away.

As soon as he left, Cam called Kobe on FaceTime to show him his brand-new toy. Kobe was just as excited as Cam started the car up and showed him all the features. They talked for a while, until Cam felt a presence standing behind him. When he looked up and saw Amy standing there staring at him, Cam ended his call and decided to see what she wanted. She obviously had something to say and he was ready to clap back. Cam wanted to piss her off, so he decided to fuck with her first.

“What’s up step mommy?” Cam said with a wicked grin.

“Must be nice. Your black mama fucks a married white man and you hit the jackpot,” Amy sneered.

Her comment got under Cam’s skin, but he kept his poker face on and switched it up on her.

“Hell yeah. My mama hopped on the right dick and got me set for life. I’m happy that you didn’t have no babies, so I don’t have to share my fortune,” Cam winked.

“And I can see that it runs in the family. If I’m not mistaken, your girlfriend Demi is married too. I hope you’re smarter than your mother was and don’t expect her to leave her husband for someone like you,” Amy replied.

She remembered briefly being in Demi’s office a few times and seeing the pictures of her and her husband on her desk. Demi was a smart girl, and Amy liked her. She would be a fool to throw her life and career away by being with Cam.

“Someone like me. You mean the half-black, illegitimate son of your late husband who’s paid out the ass. Now, why would she do something like that?” Cam laughed.

“No matter how much money you have, you’re still low-level trash with an extensive criminal record. That’s all you were back then and that’s all you’ll ever be,” Amy fumed.

“Fuck you, bitch. Keep talking shit and I’ll make my grandpa fire your ugly ass. After all, I am the one and only Blaire grandchild. You might want to be nicer to me,” Cam smirked as he blew her a kiss.

He watched as Amy’s complexion changed to a bright shade of red, before she turned and walked away. Cam locked his new car up and headed back inside. He was about to enjoy his lunch with his grandparents, but he was gonna enjoy fucking with Amy most of all.

“Cam! You’re never gonna guess what happened today!” Demi shouted excitedly when he answered the phone.

  “What’s up baby?” Cam replied.

“I got moved to a new office. It’s not just any office Cam; it’s one of the best ones in the building. It’s huge and it overlooks the lake. It even has a private bathroom inside, so I don’t have to use the public one anymore. I can’t wait to decorate it!” Demi yelled happily.

“That’s what’s up. Congrats baby,” Cam replied.

“Wait a minute. Did you do this Cam?” Demi asked him.

“Did I do what?” Cam inquired.

“Did you talk to your grandfather about moving me to a new office?” Demi questioned.

“What? Hell no, Demi. Aside from him inviting you to dinner, your name was never even mentioned,” Cam assured her.

“Oh, well, I don’t care if you did or not. I’m happy as hell about it,” Demi replied.

“You want to go grab something to eat when you get off?” Cam asked her.

“Yeah, we can do that. What are you doing now?” Demi inquired.

“I’m on my way to my mama’s house to play handyman. She got new shower heads for her bathrooms and some other stuff that she needs me to do,” Cam replied.

“Okay, well, I have a conference call in a minute, so I’ll talk to you later,” Demi said before they disconnected.

Cam left his shop for a while to help his mother, but Kobe was capable of running the show. Business was better than he thought it would be and Cam needed a few more employees. He was still having a hard time adjusting to being a boss. Cam had been in jail so much that he was used to taking orders from others. Now, people depended on him to tell them what to do. He was struggling with that, but Kobe loved it.

“Ma!” Cam yelled when he entered his mother’s home.

“Hey baby,” Nora said when she walked out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel.

“What are you cooking?” Cam asked her. The aroma had his stomach growling and he was happy that he came over.

“Shrimp stew with potato salad. It’ll be done by the time you finish doing what I need you to do,” Nora replied.

Cam thought he was just coming over to do a little light work, but Nora had him sweating. He changed the shower heads in all three of her bathrooms, hung curtains, waxed floors, and a few other jobs that she didn’t feel like doing herself. He was starving by the time he finished and he devoured the two plates of food that she had fixed for him. Cam sent Demi a text to cancel their dinner plans because he was already full. Nora had a huge pot of food and Cam had plans to take some of it home.

“Hook me up a container to go. It’s gonna go to waste anyway,” Cam said as he stretched out on her sofa and flipped through the channels on the television.

“No, it’s not. I made enough to give you and my sisters some. I’ll put enough in your container for Demi too,” Nora said, shocking her son.

“How do you know about Demi?” Cam asked her. He and Demi had never met each other’s parents and they had never discussed when it would happen.

“I don’t know her, but Lacey told me about her. Why haven’t we met yet? Are you ashamed of your mama?” Nora asked.

“Come on Ma, don’t even go there with me. You know I love to show you off to everybody. It’s just a complicated situation that we’re in. Nothing is official and we’re not in a relationship,” Cam noted.

“It must be official if she’s moving in with you. She’s helping to decorate the house and everything. And don’t you even try to lie to me, lil boy,” Nora fussed.

“I’m not lying to you. I don’t even know if that’s still happening or not. Tell Lacey to stop filling your head with all that foolishness. You always get your hopes up too high and she knows that,” Cam replied.

“Well, I like her already and we haven’t even met. And she’s an attorney at your father’s firm too. She’s definitely a keeper. It’ll be nice to tell everybody that my daughter-in-law is a lawyer,” Nora beamed.

“See what I’m saying? You’re ready to start bragging and there ain’t nothing for you to brag about,” Cam said, right as the doorbell rang.

“Get that for me while I run to the bathroom baby. That’s probably one of your aunties,” Nora said as she headed upstairs to her personal bathroom.

Cam got up and opened the door, expecting to see one of his aunties. He locked eyes with Courtney’s smiling face instead.

“What’s up with you, stranger?” Courtney asked as she walked inside.

“I can’t call it. What’s good with you?” Cam asked.

“You tell me. It’s been a minute since I had my fix and I’m having withdrawals,” Courtney said while grabbing at the front of his jeans.

“Chill out girl. My mama is right upstairs,” Cam warned.

“Let’s go take a ride,” Courtney suggested.

“Nah, I’m good Courtney,” Cam replied.

“Damn, that bitch got you being faithful now? And you’ve known her for how long?” Courtney inquired.

“Don’t you have a husband at home Courtney?” Cam inquired.

“Okay, and you knew that when you were fucking me. Why the sudden change?” Courtney asked with an attitude.

“You act like your pussy is the only one that I was getting. Don’t even come at me like that man. We’re friends and we always will be. Sex just won’t be a part of the friendship anymore,” Cam replied.

“Fuck you, Cam! And fuck this friendship! When things go left with that bitch, don’t even think about running back to me!” Cour
tney snapped before she walked out of the house.

“Who was that?” Nora asked as she walked back down the stairs. She heard the door slam, but she didn’t see who went out of it.

  “That was Courtney,” Cam replied.

“Did she want something to eat?” Nora asked.

“No, I don’t think she did,” Cam answered.

“Well, what did she want?” Nora quizzed.

Cam wanted to say some dick, but Nora would have slapped him in the mouth. He ignored her last question and helped her clean up her kitchen. After getting his and Demi’s food, Cam went back to his shop for a little while before going to his apartment to wait for Demi.

  Chapter 23

Asha was a woman on a mission as she hung up the phone and hit Cam’s name to call him right back. Just like she knew he would, Cam sent her call straight to voicemail once again. Asha didn’t give up easily, so she kept up with her task. She was now on call number twenty-three and she had nothing but time on her hands.

“The fuck you keep calling the man for? It’s obvious that he doesn’t wanna talk,” Randy snapped when he walked into the bedroom.

“Keep talking to me like you don’t have no sense if you want to. I’ll call my brothers to come over here and tap that ass,” Asha threatened. He was in is feelings, but he would get over it soon enough. She really didn’t care if he did or not.

“I’m going make a run,” Randy replied while grabbing his keys and leaving.

  “Bye, fuck boy,” Asha mumbled.

She didn’t know what the hell she was thinking when she left Cam to be with his lame ass. Asha loved the fact that she could pull the strings with Randy because she never could do that with Cam. Randy was so green that he gave her full control over their relationship and everything else. He was making the money, but Asha controlled and spent it all. He was easily swayed and that was what she loved the most. Once Randy had gone on his way, Asha resumed her phone stalking. She sat straight up on her sofa when the phone was answered. She got excited about the possibility of talking to Cam, but her joy was short lived.

“Stop calling my fucking phone!” Cam yelled, right before hanging up.

“This nigga think it’s a game,” Asha said as she jumped up and grabbed her car keys, preparing to leave.

“It’s about damn time,” Demi said when Cam’s phone finally stopped ringing.

They were relaxing on the sofa when Asha decided to ruin everything. She had been calling Cam every day since she asked him to take her back, but she had never called that many times in sequence. Cam ignored all her calls until he got tired and picked up. It was only to tell her to stop calling and, thankfully, it worked.

“I knew her ass was crazy, but not to that extreme,” Cam replied.

“That’s what you get for messing with them special education hoes. You got one bitch sitting in a hot ass car hoping to get some dick. Then, you got this retarded hoe blowing your phone up like she’s not fucking your best friend,” Demi said, shaking her head.

“That’s why you need to be my girl. I need some balance in my life.” Cam smiled.

“No, you need some restraining orders in your life,” Demi laughed.

“You’re a lawyer, hook me up,” Cam requested.

“You’re joking, but I don’t trust them hoes. They both have men, but they’re still desperate as hell,” Demi noted.

“Don’t act like your shit is so sweet Demi. How can you be a lawyer and married to the connect? That shit is just crazy,” Cam laughed.

“Stop acting like I knew what was up. I would have been divorced a long time ago if I did,” Demi swore.

“Let me find out that you like dope boys,” Cam said while looking over at her.

Demi turned her head to keep from making eye contact with him. She hated when Cam stared at her and that’s all that he seemed to do.

“Stop it Cam,” she said when she felt his gaze still lingering.

“Stop what? What am I doing?” he asked with a smirk.

“Stop looking at me,” Demi requested.

Cam had the prettiest eyes that she’d ever seen on a man, but she couldn’t look into them for too long. Somehow, she always ended up naked when she did.

“Girl, quit playing and come up out them clothes,” Cam said as he tugged at her shirt.

“No Cam, I told you about that already,” Demi replied.

“Stop being so stingy with the pussy, like you didn’t just give it up last night,” Cam fussed.

“And I told you that it was a mistake,” Demi pointed out.

“Oh, okay. Was it a mistake the night before and the morning before that too?” Cam asked her.

“Yes, it was, and I swear that this is the last time,” Demi said as she crawled on his lap and pressed her lips against his.

Cam palmed her ass and squeezed like he was trying to leave his fingerprints. Demi moaned into his mouth while pulling his shirt up over his head. Cam broke their kiss momentarily to do the same to her. He massaged Demi’s breasts with his big hands while his mouth found hers once again. Demi reached behind her to unsnap her bra, but she never had a chance to. A loud pounding at Cam’s front door had them both jumping in surprise.

“The fuck!” Cam yelled while looking towards the door that was being kicked and beaten on.

“Nigga, open this door! You got me fucked up!” Asha yelled like she was crazy.

“Wow,” Demi said as she moved from his lap and grabbed her shirt. The very thing that she didn’t want to happen was happening anyway. That was her reason for not wanting to stay the night at Cam’s apartment in the first place.

“This bitch must be insane. You better get the fuck on before I send your ratchet ass to jail!” Cam threatened through the closed front door.

“Stop hiding behind the door and say that shit to my face!” Asha screamed.

“Maybe you should go out there, Cam. This is a quiet complex and somebody might call the police,” Demi said.

“Good, let that bitch get locked up,” Cam fumed.

“I thought you changed the access code and stuff,” Demi said.

“I did. Her stupid ass must be coming in behind another car. The damn guard ain’t never at his post. I can’t wait to get the fuck away from here,” Cam replied.

“You don’t have long. Your house is almost fully furnished and decorated,” Demi noted, as Asha continued to act a fool outside.

“Fuck you, Camden! I bet you’ll be calling me before I call you!” Asha yelled, stopping her assault on the front door.

“I guess she finally tired herself out,” Demi sighed in relief.

Cam still heard movement outside the door, so he got up to go investigate, with Demi trailing right behind him. He had just gotten to the front door when an envelope was pushed underneath it. He looked at Demi and shrugged, right before he picked it up and tore it open.

“The fuck! This bitch must be crazy!” Cam bellowed as he opened the front door and rushed outside. Asha was just getting to her car when he ran over to confront her.

“Oh, I guess you wanna talk now,” Asha said with a satisfied smirk.

“The fuck is this Asha?” Cam asked while tossing the contents of the envelope at her feet.

“You ain’t blind nigga, you see exactly what it is. I hope you’re ready because shit is getting real in about six more months,” Asha replied.

Cam felt like he couldn’t breathe when he opened the envelope and saw the ultrasound pictures that Asha had slipped under his door. Randy might have been her fool, but Cam was not that nigga and she knew that.

“Girl, you got me fucked up if you think I’m taking care of another nigga’s baby. You better go run that lame ass game on Randy or one of them other clowns!” Cam barked.

“Don’t act like we weren’t fucking every morning and night nigga. Besides, I barely slept with Randy around the time I got pregnant,” Asha replied.

Asha had been feeling bad a lot lately, but she contributed her symptoms to
the flu that she’d been diagnosed with. When the nausea and vomiting didn’t stop, Asha took a pregnancy test and found the root of her problem. Randy always fussed at her for sleeping and eating all day, but she didn’t know why she was doing it. Asha was happy about the life growing inside of her, but she would have been happier if she knew for a fact that Cam was the father.

“I’m not trying to hear shit that you have to say. Call me when it’s time to take the test,” Cam concluded.

“That’s six months from now Camden. I have to buy maternity clothes and pay doctor’s bills right now!” Asha yelled.

“I suggest you go get a job then. Unless you plan to take a paternity test to prove it before the baby is born, I’m not doing a damn thing,” Cam promised her.

“Hey Demi, I guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other now,” Asha said with a wave as she looked behind Cam.

He turned around and saw Demi standing there with a blank expression plastered on her face. They both wondered how Asha knew who she was, but that wasn’t the focus of their problem. Asha couldn’t stop staring at the other woman, who she had to admit was beautiful in her own right. Demi was short, dark-skinned, and sexy, just like Cam liked them.

“Come back in the house Camden. Arguing outside is too beneath you,” Demi said as she reached out her hand to him. Cam turned his back on Asha and gladly accepted it.

“You better tell her about me, Cam. She don’t want it with me and you know it!” Asha yelled to his departing back, right before she pulled off.

“Man, fuck!” Cam yelled as he flopped back down on the sofa.

Things in his life were just starting to look up and now he had more bullshit to deal with. Sharing space with Asha had become unbearable, so sharing a child was too much for him to even think about. He and Demi were being pulled further apart before they even had a chance to make shit official.

“Be honest with me, Cam. I promise you that I won’t feel any differently, no matter what you say. Do you think that it’s your baby that she’s carrying?” Demi asked as she straddled him and rubbed his back.
