“No,” Mia blurted it out. “That’s just weird.”

  Shock hit Tyson’s face. “No?”

“No. And we’re done talking, Tyson. Thanks for your apology. I’m happy that you are writing. I wish you and Ashley nothing but success, but no to using my name.” Mia shrugged and glanced at Ashley. “I’ll be right back.”

“Wait,” Tyson said. “She’s pregnant. I don’t want you two fighting or anything—”

“Fighting over who?” Mia snorted. “You? Boy, please. I’m going to go over there and say hi to Ashley and wish her a good life just like I wished you the same, but this is it. You two have a happy and healthy baby. However, I don’t want any more book release invites or dedications or anything else. We’re good, and it’s time for all of us to move on.”

“I see.” Tyson watched her walk away.

I didn’t say anything and there was no need to walk over to Ashley with Mia. This was something she had to do on her own.

When she got to her ex-best friend, she maintained her poise, smiling and nodding. There was a moment when Mia shook her head, frowned, and backed away. Ashley looked as if she was going to cry, but Mia said something else and patted her shoulders.

  And then that was it.

Mia glanced my way. I gestured to the door, and we left.

“What did Tyson and you talk about?” she asked as we headed to the car.

  “Not one damn thing.”

“I guess he just felt lucky that you didn’t break those legs.”

“Let’s hope.” I guided her over to her side of the car and opened it for her. Before she could go inside, I captured her in my arms. “You handled that well.”

“Personally, I feel like I won…and hey…if they feel like they’ve won too, then that can’t be a bad thing.”

“This is why I always want to fuck you, because you’re so fucking sweet.”

  “And because I’m nasty too?”

  “Filthy.”

And then we both paused and shook our heads.

“I don’t think I want to hear that word for a while.” She laughed.

  “Me either.”

And then I devoured her mouth. I didn’t know how long I feasted on her lips. I just knew that there would never be a moment where I wouldn’t want to savor the taste of her. There would never be a time where I’d take her for granted or disrespect her heart.

In those minutes of our lips slipping against each other—so smooth and sensual—I finally understood why she hadn’t been so pissed with Tyson at his book launch.

I could feel the warmth of our love in my chest, rising, taking us somewhere we’d never been before. And in the future years, there would be no memory of Tyson or Ashley.

It would just be us, finding new ways to love each other, making new memories.
