“I’m going to kill the son of a bitch.”

Dante watched his best friend turn lethal as he processed the information.

“What are we going to do? If she ever finds out about what happened between the three of us, she’s going to be livid.”

Dante held Penny closer and kissed her temple. “We’ll worry about that later.” He turned Penny in his arms. “Nothing is going to change what’s between us. It’s terrible what Brian did to her but you can’t let that get between what we have.”

“Well, isn’t this a cozy little scene?” All three turned to see Kale standing in the doorway. Her eyes were swollen and red and her face was twisted in anger. “Let me see if I get this. You three are fucking. I can’t believe it.”

“Kale, I know you’ve had a hell of a shock, but that’s no reason for you to attack what you don’t understand.” Dante pulled Penny behind him, trying to shield her from Kale’s anger. He wanted to keep the situation calm. Kale’s rage was a living, breathing thing and it tainted the air in the room.

“I quit,” she spat before spinning on her heel and walking out.

Dante let go of Penny and started to go after her but Andrew stopped him. “Let me. She isn’t going to be receptive to either one of you right now.”

He nodded and his best friend took off after Kale. He faced Penny and tried to pull her into his arms again but she stiffened up. His stomach dropped as she looked up at him, horrified.

“Oh my God, Dante. What have we done?”

He grabbed her elbows. “We’ve done nothing wrong. Do you hear me, Penny? I won’t let you turn this into something bad.”

She simply shook her head. “No, we have done something wrong. We’ve stepped over the line professionally and personally. Kale is…was my friend. I’ve always known her stance on workplace affairs.”

“Penny, don’t do this. What we have is not the same thing that she walked in on when she went to see Brian.”

Her eyes closed and when she reopened them he knew he was losing the argument. “How is it any different? The fact that you’re not her boyfriend? Maybe, but it’s still not appropriate. Even if she didn’t have a problem with it, someone in the office will. There would always be some kind of talk. People would always wonder if I’m getting special treatment or more money because we’re sleeping together. It doesn’t really matter—things like this don’t work. I need my job and I can’t work in a place that is going to be filled with rumors and derision. Nobody except Kale knows what happened and it can stay that way if we stop it now.”

He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs that he didn’t give a damn what others thought. He wanted to tell her he’d leave, break his contract with the company and walk away. “Don’t do this to us, to what we’ve started.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t.” Her voice cracked as she quickly stepped around him and ran out of the office.

Leaning back against his desk, he pressed his hands to his eyes. He couldn’t fucking believe this. He was helpless to do anything at the moment. Fuck!

  * * * * *

Penny sat at her desk. It had been two weeks since the blowup in Dante’s office. Andrew had convinced Kale not to leave and she’d never once mentioned what happened that day.

Their once easy friendship was now strained at best. Penny’s heart was shattered into a thousand pieces. She couldn’t eat nor sleep and Dante was never far from her thoughts. He’d reached out to her a couple times, but never at work. Andrew tried to get through to her but she wouldn’t allow it.

She was so torn up she didn’t know which way was forward. So she did what she was good at—keeping her head down and doing her job. It did nothing to lessen the constant ache in her chest but, like a good girl, she forged on.

She’d had to face a difficult truth about herself—she was weak. A stronger woman probably wouldn’t give a damn what Kale thought. Certainly wouldn’t care what others in the office might think. But Penny did care. Dante had never indicated he loved her, never promised anything more than the sexual relationship they had.

“Penny, I need to see you,” Kale called from her office. Penny sighed. She prayed Kale didn’t want to have what would surely be an awkward conversation concerning their boss.

She went in to the other woman’s office. “What can I do for you?”

“Please sit down.” She pointed to the chair opposite her. Cautiously, Penny sat and waited. “I owe you an apology.”

She didn’t want to hear Kale’s apology, she only wanted her life to return to normal.

“It’s none of my business what you or Dante do in your personal lives. That day, I was angry and hurt and took it out on you. I hope you know how sorry I am for my behavior.”

The apology should have lifted her spirits but it only added to Penny’s heartbreak. “I understand. But you were right. Relationships like that don’t belong in the workplace. It causes way too much strife for everyone involved.”

Kale shook her head. “Penny, I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have compared what I heard to what happened to me. Penny, he’s miserable without you.”

“I can’t talk about this. I’m all cried out and all I want to do is go back to my normal life.” She stood and walked to the door.

“So you’re over him just like that?”

Penny looked over her shoulder. “I never said that.” She walked out of the room and kept walking until she reached the elevators. She couldn’t take it anymore. Coming to the office day after day, pretending that everything was okay. She wasn’t putting herself through it. Quitting was her only option.

Her cell rang as she stepped from the elevator. She answered. “Hello.”

“Penny. I need to talk with you.”

Dammit, it was Andrew. “Andrew, I can’t deal with this anymore. I don’t want to talk about Dante or what happened.”

“It’s not about him. It’s about Kale and me.”

  “What?”

“I need to talk to you about Kale. Please meet me tonight for dinner. I swear Dante’s name will not come up.”

“Kale has nothing to do with this,” she replied.

“I know but she’s in a lot of pain and I can’t get her to talk. You know her better than anyone else and I thought you might know what to do.”

How could she offer him advice when her own world was blowing apart? “Fine, I’ll meet you.” She didn’t want to turn him down and maybe he would lend her a sympathetic ear in return.

She heard him release his breath on the other end of the phone. “Great. Come to the Marriott around seven.”

The Marriott had one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. It might actually take her mind off things. Dressing up and eating out would serve as a distraction from her broken heart. “Seven sounds good. See you then.”

She put her phone away. At least she wouldn’t be alone with her thoughts tonight.

  * * * * *

Penny wore the same dress she’d worn the night of the Valentine’s Day Ball. The restaurant had a dress code, and since she was now job hunting, running out to find an equally beautiful dress was not in her budget.

She was greeted by the maître d’, who ushered her into the completely empty room. A single table sat in the middle of the dimly lit place, covered in a white tablecloth. Dante, dressed in a black tuxedo, stood next to the table.

The music playing in the background took her back to her senior prom night. That’s when she really looked at her surroundings. The restaurant was decorated with balloons and signage from her senior prom. What the hell was going on?

  “Dante, what are you doing?”

He approached her. “You look beautiful tonight.” He held out his hand. “Dance with me.”

She couldn’t move for a second as she stared at his outstretched hand. Could she do this? Could she take the chance of getting her heart broken again by the same man? The answer hit her—yes. Yes, she wanted this, more than anything. She went into his arms and he walked her
onto a small dance floor.

“Why does this look like prom?” She basked in the warmth of his embrace as he pulled her close.

“This is our high school prom. The one I wanted to ask you to.” His breath teased her ear.

“Oh my God, you remember me?” She hadn’t brought up their prior connection before things blew up.

“Of course I remembered you. I didn’t think you remembered me.”

She laughed. “You can’t be serious. A star football player and one of the most popular boys in school?”

He tucked an errant piece of hair behind her ear. “I remember a girl who liked to dye her hair blood red, loved drama and didn’t care if she was popular or not.”

Her heart dipped and she trembled. “You hardly ever said a word to me in front of other people.” She couldn’t keep the hurt from her voice.

“I was a dumb jock and you scared the hell out of me. You were friends with whomever you wanted and didn’t give a damn what anyone else thought. I had to watch every word I ever said to anyone. I was a dumb kid. On prom night, when I saw you walk through the door dressed in fuchsia and black with Artie Dorn, I wanted to punch him.”

Heat bloomed in her face as she remembered. “As I recall, you were there with Becca Hatten, homecoming queen, beautiful, blonde and skinny.”

They laughed in unison as he swung her around. “Becca, who later that night drank too much and threw up all over my tux, then passed out in the back of the limo.”

The little devil that resided in Penny threw back its head and laughed as the image of a passed-out princess came to mind.

“Penny, I’m in love with you. I think I always have been, but I’m not a kid anymore and I’m not afraid to take what I want. I want you and I’m not about to let you walk out of my life. I don’t care what we have to do. I’ll leave my job so you can keep yours. It doesn’t matter as long as we’re together.”

Cutting him off with a kiss, she put all she felt into one long, breathless moment. “I love you,” she whispered. “I can’t believe you would do all this for me after the way I reacted.”

“I was a little pissed you would think so little of what we had together, and then I realized I never talked to you about where I wanted us to go. I didn’t ask you what you wanted. So I decided to give you time to deal with what Kale said. I hoped you’d realize we could work it out together.”

She knew in that instant Dante was indeed the love of her life and she no longer doubted they wanted the same things from their relationship. “I believe it now. It was so hard when Kale came back and had been so hurt.”

He skimmed her cheek. “I get it, but if something like this ever happens again, I may have to put you over my knee and give you a good spanking.” He gently kissed her cheeks. “How about we have them bring up dinner in a couple of hours?”

“Sounds good to me.” She grabbed his hand. “What floor?”

  * * * * *

Dante’s pants hit the ground and his breath hitched as he looked at Penny in her nakedness. “I’ve never seen you look more beautiful than you are right now.”

She blushed from the tips of her toes to the top of her head, and his cock jerked in response. He loved her soft, curvaceous form, and her heavy, round tits were begging for his lips. He went to her and fell to his knees. He leaned into her velvety belly before trailing his lips across her tummy.

She gripped his shoulders and held on tight as his tongue traced around her bellybutton before dipping inside. She smelled liked spiced vanilla and cream and he was going to eat her up.

He kissed down her body before stopping at her pussy lips. He opened her with his thumbs, tracing the tight button of her clit. He swirled his tongue around it, licking the sensitive tip. She widened her legs slightly and he continued to taste her in every way he could.

“Lie down on the bed and open wide for me,” he demanded. It had been too damn many weeks since he’d tasted her.

She did as ordered and spread herself open for him. He growled in his throat and jumped on the bed, diving back between her legs. “Come on my tongue, baby.”

He lapped at her, pushing two fingers right where she liked it the most. When he found her G-spot, he coaxed the first climax from her in a scream of delight that had blood roaring in his ears.

When she tried to grab his dick, he shook his head. “I can’t wait a second longer. On your knees.”

Squealing in pleasure, Penny rolled over and propped herself up on her knees. He pressed one hand to the middle of her back, gently pushing her head to the pillow. He guided his swollen cock to her entrance and pushed forward, filling her.

Her sweet pussy hugged him tightly as he dug his fingers into her ample behind and held on as he began to ride.

“Rub your clit for me.” He wanted to feel her pleasuring herself. She moaned as her fingers darted around and she started meeting him thrust for thrust.

Her pale ass called to him and he slapped it once. She jumped and groaned, signaling to him that she wanted more. He spanked her twice more, leaving her ass cheek a nice bright pink.

He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her up, then bit the side of her neck. “You’re mine, Penny. Now and forever. I need to hear you say it.”

Her head turned and she licked his bottom lip. “I’m yours, Dante. Always.”

He repositioned her on her back and entered her scalding heat. She welcomed him by wrapping her long legs around his hips. They lay mouth to mouth and chest to chest as he increased the pace. Every breath she exhaled was his to take in.

“I love you, Penny,” he managed to mumble before taking her lips in a bruising kiss. He thanked the stars above he’d found the woman he’d never known he was looking for, and he was going to spend the rest of his life showing her what a lucky man he was.
