Fey had found a couple of framed paintings that seemed to suit the place, replicas of their beloved mountains. These were hanging in their living room over the new living room furniture. She was so thrilled they had gotten in on a sale and bought the entire set they wanted, instead of having to buy it piece by piece as money became available. With the sale prices, they had also been able to afford a nice oak table for the dining room. Someday, they wanted to get the matching hutch and curio cabinets. She smiled as she anticipated the home they were creating. Out on the porch were Adirondack style chairs, a rocker, and a swing that looked off into the mountains. It was a beautiful view.
The cats had made the porch their own long before the house construction was completed. Allyssa had hung flower boxes over the porch railings and plant hangers from the ceiling, and the cats would frequently be found sleeping on the railings next to the flower boxes. The red of the house looked extra vivid with a green fern or spider plant before it. Allyssa had swatted the cats when they started eating her plants, but they really got the hint when she sprayed them with water. They learned to leave the potted plants alone.
“I’m so excited,” Allyssa said as they ate their first home-cooked meal. She had decided to make Fey’s favorite: a roast with potatoes and carrots and plenty of gravy. It had turned out perfectly in their new flat-top stove. She had been careful with this new stove, and she was pleased when the roast came out of the oven slightly red on the inside, just the way Fey loved it. A roast had been one of the first things Allyssa made that turned out, and she was pleased it was their first meal in the new house. She looked around at their new dishes and pots and pans. Blended with the old items Fey had kept, everything looked homey and comfortable.
“I’m excited too,” Fey admitted. She had prayed, and her prayers were answered when she hadn’t been called away on a case. She glanced at the business phone hooked up to the house phone, its red light not flashing to announce a business call. They’d had the house wired for their convenience. Even the internet was now turned on in the house. A new computer in the den was hooked up to the work computer in the cabin, so Allyssa could work at either station whenever she felt the need.
The only one unhappy with their move was Rex. He refused to move off the cabin porch. He had spent so much time on it when he was ill, he felt it was his place. He glared disdainfully at the house porch and the cats who had abandoned him for the warmer spots at the house. Even when his humans encouraged him to visit and let him inside, he asked to go out and returned to the cabin porch, guarding his spot. The big dog had chosen, and his home was over at the cabin where they had lived for so long. He was even happier in the mobile home than he was in the new farmhouse.
“That dog,” Allyssa said exasperatedly as she put his kibble down. He had eaten and then asked to go out, so he could return to the cabin.
“You won’t be able to change him. Leave him, and maybe he will change his mind on his own,” Fey consoled her.
That night, Allyssa put their first load of dishes in the dishwasher and Fey put their first load of laundry in the washing machine. “I’m glad we won’t have to go to that laundromat again,” she said as she watched the machine starting up.
“Why?” Allyssa asked. After all, she was the one who usually went to the laundromat.
“Those floors and counters were so dirty I’d have to put a sheet on the counter, so I didn’t have to fold our clean clothes on them.”
Allyssa laughed. “I had a towel I used to fold the clothes on, and I would wash it the next time I came in.”
They sat out on their porch for a while, side by side, holding hands. Allyssa loved times like this. They sat on the swing, gently swaying in the twilight, a cat on each of their laps as they talked. Mostly, Fey told stories about her patients.
“I delivered a green dog the other day,” she confided.
“A green dog? How? What…?”
“Yeah, they named him Forest,” she chuckled, and Allyssa joined in. “The green pigment is caused by biliverdin.” At her wife’s confused look, she knew she needed to elaborate. “The placenta has an enormous blood supply.” At her wife’s nod, she continued explaining, “A lot of blood moves through it and if the blood escapes the main placenta, it is broken down in the uterus to biliverdin. If this pigment invades the amniotic sac that surrounds the puppy, it could dye the hairs of the fetus a green color.” She shared a little laugh with her wife over this explanation of Forest’s coloring. “The placenta of the puppy was abnormal and didn’t repel the biliverdin, so the puppy was born green.”
“That poor baby. Does it hurt?” Allyssa worried.
“No, that rare pigmentation won’t cause any harm. The puppy is quite lucky, all things considered. Usually defects in a placenta cause the puppy to die in the uterus. As you know, the placenta is the only way for the fetus to receive nutrients and oxygen. This one defect, which could have killed the puppy, instead, just turned him green. Fortunately, it didn’t let any other potentially toxic substances through to harm him.”
“Will he be green all his life?”
The doctor shook her head, imagining if that were possible. “No, like hair dye, it’s temporary and will fade in time.”
“Have you ever seen it before?”
“No, but I’d heard of it, and of course, I read up on it. To see it in person is rather amazing and alarming. The owners were relieved when I explained.”
“Does the mother of the pups realize her pup is green? Oh, wait! Dogs are color-blind.”
“And not only that, she loves those pups equally.”
“What a weird thing to happen.”
“Yep, that’s one thing I love about my job. Nothing is ever boring; there’s always variety.”
“I’m kinda tired,” Allyssa said, stretching and letting the cat slide to the floor of the porch but not before getting a nail lodged in her jeans, which she had to disentangle quickly.
“It’s fairly early…” began Fey, and then, she saw the look in her wife’s eye. There was a new house to break in, a new bed, a new…everything. She smiled as she too slid a cat off her lap. This one was unsheathed, without claws, but looked highly disgruntled at losing its warm, human perch. Fey stood up and stretched, following her smiling wife to the front door. “Wait,” she said as she stopped the younger woman. “There is a tradition…” she began and then attempted to carry her wife over the threshold. The height difference wasn’t so much that she couldn’t manage it, although a little awkwardly, so when they got in position with Allyssa’s arm around Fey’s neck, the strong woman managed to carry her over the threshold and Allyssa closed the door. She carried her wife to the foot of the stairs and let her body slide deliciously down her own.
“What? You aren’t going to carry me up to bed?” laughed Allyssa, delighted with this playful side of her wife.
“And fall with my precious bundle?” she asked, her arms still around the taller woman, not letting her go.
Kissing at the bottom of the stairs in their new home was satisfying but it quickly aroused their passions.
Slowly, they walked up the steps, one by one, the shorter Fey going up first, so she could kiss her wife without reaching up too far. Allyssa smiled as she followed her wife up the steps quite willingly. Step by step, kiss by kiss, her hands unbuttoned her wife’s shirt and then reached for the jeans. Laughter bubbled up between them as the jeans effectively hobbled her at the knees. She still had to remove her boots. Allyssa willingly helped her wife remove the boots, and then, Fey removed Allyssa’s boots. With a mischievous grin, Allyssa stepped backwards and began removing her own shirt and jeans, dancing a little as she did her strip tease. Fey was momentarily struck dumb as she watched her wife perform, reaching for her when she came near and then, smiling in anticipation as the younger woman danced away enticingly.
When Allyssa got down to her underwear, Fey couldn’t wait anymore and lunged to pull the tall blonde into her arms and against her own fevered body, h
ard. Smiling and laughing, they fell on their bed, rolling instantly as they kissed deeply. Fey’s hands sought out the curves that had been revealed by her wife’s strip tease, easing the panties over her hips to the woman’s knees before agilely pulling them off one long leg and then the other. Finally, she reached for the clasp on the bra.
“Oh, baby,” Allyssa gasped as her naked and now fevered skin touched Fey’s. She squirmed against her wife, enjoying the feel of the muscles against her. She relished how strong her wife was, a necessity when wrestling with large animals in her practice.
Fey slowed things down as her own bra and panties became a thing of the past, and she wrapped herself around the lithe body of her wife. She kissed down her jawline and along to her ear, breathing in the scent that was so uniquely Allyssa. The young woman arched her neck to give her wife access as her breath caught in her throat. Allyssa’s fingers were kneading her shoulders, encouraging the onslaught of her supple body. She used her lower body to arch against the muscular woman, further encouraging her lovemaking. Fey made her way down to the rosy peaks of her wife’s breasts, loving first one and then the other, using her fingers to lightly tweak them. At the catch in Allyssa’s breath, she applied more pressure, watching her response.
“Yesss,” she hissed out, caressing along Fey’s broad back, the muscles rippling under her fingertips, digging her nails into the skin and smiling inwardly as she arched into her body. She reached down to cup and squeeze her buttocks as her own nipples painfully peaked and were given welcome attention. She didn’t know why, but the almost overzealous pleasure-pain did something for her, a corresponding bolt of electricity shot between her legs. Allyssa wrapped a leg around her wife and ground suggestively against her, leaving a wet trail on her hip.
Fey could feel the wetness, and the distinctive smell of their passions was arousing her to a fevered pitch. She loved the caresses that were becoming harder and more demanding as her wife pulled her closer to her body. God, she sometimes wished they could merge and become one. She wanted to be inside her wife, feeling these things. She settled for letting one of her hands caress its way down between them and plunging it inside her wife, who eagerly accepted the feeling as she applied pressure up and in. Watching Allyssa go completely limp as she hit her G-spot was very rewarding. Fey held her in her strong arms as she fell against her, plunging her fingers in and out and then applying more pressure as she thoroughly and lovingly fucked her wife.
Allyssa only hoped she could give one tenth of this pleasure back to her wife as she bucked and ground down on the fingers that were causing her to come undone. No sooner had her first orgasm rippled through her body than she was seeking to do the same to Fey, copying the older woman’s actions as she sought the wetness she knew would be there and plunged inside. Hearing Fey’s gasp of pleasure, she increased her pace, her own body still twitching from her first orgasm. She maneuvered herself so she could grind down against Fey’s hip as she continued to work her fingers inside the brunette’s body, plunging, grinding, and twisting, her thumb rubbing on the erect clit.
“Oh, oh, OHHH,” Fey cried out as she came against her wife, biting her shoulder lightly to cut off the sound of her passion even though there were only animals around to hear them. The feelings continued for a long time as her body pulsated from the intensity between them.
Allyssa didn’t stop but she slowed. She watched Fey carefully to see if she could pull another orgasm out of her wife, thrilled that she could make her come so undone. Her own passions were high again and as Fey’s arms were still holding her tightly, she continued to grind herself against Fey. When the brunette squeezed her encouragingly, she reached down to kiss her, and out of the blue, the passions exploded within her, the orgasm catching her unawares. She was momentarily shocked as it caught her and then smiled through tears of joy as she saw Fey had also come again. She couldn’t imagine a more satisfying end to her day than making mad, passionate love with her wife.
CHAPTER TWELVE
“Do you want to make a baby?” Fey asked a few days later.
“You didn’t say anything since before Easter?” she asked, surprised.
“Well, I wanted to wait until we were settled in the house, but we’ve been in here for a week and nothing has happened to thwart it.” She almost added, “for a change,” but didn’t want to tempt the fates.
“Well, according to the sites, you shouldn’t order the sperm until you know your cycles.”
“We know your cycles since we cycle together,” the doctor pointed out, laughing and enjoying their morning chatter before she had to get up and start her day. She suddenly sensed Allyssa’s hesitation. “Do you want to wait? You’re young enough that–”
“Nuh uh. I don’t want to wait. I was just wondering if we had enough money for two vials. We spent a lot of our money on this house and its furnishings.”
“I don’t know if I want to get pregnant at the same time.” She ignored the statement about what they had spent on the house, thinking it was well worth it and they had waited a long time to get it all.
“No, not at the same time but maybe, at least, the same father?”
“Oh, that’s right. We need to choose the father. Do they show pictures?”
“No, but they tell about him on the sites. We just need to figure out what we want in a potential father of our babies. Do we want him to be of a certain ethnicity or height? They even have categories for inherited illnesses that might potentially pass to the baby from him.”
“You’ve really researched this, haven’t you?” she asked, still amazed at how much her wife did in a day. She suddenly had a horrifying thought. “Do they screen him for diseases like AIDS? That can still be transmitted through sperm.”
“I saw that. Some of the sites do not screen for that, but I think I found one or two that you can safely look through.”
“Have you chosen a donor already?” she asked, curious what her wife was looking for.
“No, I thought that might be weird. I want you with me when we are online and screening potential baby daddies, so it doesn’t seem like I’m looking for a man.” She shuddered delicately, remembering why it had always seemed awkward and wrong when she had dated guys. She knew now, it was because she preferred the comfort and body of a woman, but not just any woman…her wife. She must have unconsciously moved closer because Fiona moved closer and comfortingly against her.
Fey smiled, pleased that she wasn’t thinking about men. She sometimes worried that Allyssa would regret marrying so young and one day, find men attractive. Having her wife leave her was a worry, but everything about her wife indicated she wanted to stay and make a future together. There was so much love, she even worried about these insecurities that popped up now and then. She knew she spent too much time alone on back roads, heading for clients and left to her own thoughts. Most of the time, she thought about her patients, but of course, her wife and their potential family crept into her thoughts from time to time. “Let’s sit down at the computer the next few nights after dinner and start narrowing down the list,” she offered.
“Sure. Do you want an ethnic child?” she asked, curious.
“Do you want one?” she asked, to be fair.
They decided that although ethnic children were beautiful, they wanted a baby that looked more like them. That removed anyone of African-American or Latino descent as well as Asian, which narrowed down the list. They also discussed different European lines and finally, decided to go for those within their own heritage, so the baby, or babies, would look more like one of them. Since they couldn’t mix their own DNA, the thought that their children would be related to each other appealed to them both.
Over the next couple weeks, they argued, debated, and laughed over the various vials available to them. “Look at this one. He’s donated nineteen times and they’ve retired him,” Fey pointed out to her wife.
“Retired him? Jeez, he’s responsible for a huge population. If each one of his offspring has just
one or two babies, and those babies have one or two babies, that’s a whole lot of babies!” Allyssa quipped, laughing with her wife.
They finally chose a blonde-haired, brown-eyed man of medium height, who worked out and had very few medical conditions in his family background. He was also a college PHD. There was no guarantee his knowledge would pass to their child, but they both felt education was important. Allyssa had started online classes and found she could even utilize those she had taken in Denver. They wanted their children to have a leg up if they could help them. Inspiring them with educated parents would be a good idea, at least, they hoped it would.
“When do you want to do the implantation?” Fey asked as they decided on this donor and figured out they could afford the two vials. They realized these two vials might not take for Allyssa on the first or second implantation, but they were willing to try on their own before consulting a doctor or a fertilization specialist.
“Wow, Doctor Herriot. So clinical, you romantic, you,” Allyssa teased as she cleaned up the last of the dinner Fey had made.
Fey laughed. She was feeling anxious about their decision but also excited. She waited for Allyssa to answer her question.
“Go ahead and order them,” she said, smiling as she went to hug her wife. “This feels really weird…ordering sperm off the internet.”
“It’s the modern age, baby.” She grabbed a calendar and pointed at the week that Allyssa and she were most likely to be fertile based on their periods. “If we order it now, we could implant then,” she pointed to the date.
“Wow, that’s soon…” she said, looking over her wife’s shoulder where she sat at the computer, gently brushing back her brown hair with her fingertips and lightly touching her skin to raise goosebumps on Fey’s arm. She smiled to see she had succeeded.
“If you want to wait…” she began, shuddering slightly as the touch invoked desire for this young woman.
