  He slipped an arm around my waist, fingers playing idly up my back. ‘What about going somewhere we won’t be interrupted all the time?’ he murmured. His fingers had reached the bare skin where my dress dipped low down my spine and I shivered with pleasure, thinking there was nothing I felt like more, but some vestige of conscience made me remind him he’d promised to go out with Gina later.

  ‘Damn,’ he muttered, ‘there’ll be all hell to pay if I bunk off that, but we’re leaving early.’ I had no objection to that. ‘In the meantime —’ his arms tightened around me - ‘she can continue with her curiosity unsatisfied for a while longer. It’s years since I did any snogging in a stranger’s doorway, but I don’t expect I’ve lost the knack.’

  ‘I’ve never snogged in a stranger’s doorway,’ I said rather breathlessly, wondering why I had ever thought Hamish was stuffy, and what other surprises this supposedly conventional solicitor had in store for me.

  ‘Haven’t you?’ he asked with raised eyebrows as I wriggled pleasurably against him, seeing a lot of fun ahead. ‘It’s an experience you shouldn’t miss out on.’

  I didn’t. And he certainly hadn’t lost the knack either.
