Flinching away from his touch I responded, “I’ve already killed him. It’s done.” I knew I would carry some of that evil man's scent with me, a change made the moment he had dug into my flesh in a possessive manor. But it wouldn’t define me and he hadn’t taken from me what Ganglin had taken from so many other nymphs.
Graceson had finally reached the top of the steps and grimly looked over me. “I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you, Ryker,” he whispered.
I nodded slowly. “I’m glad to see you alive.”
I smiled at the two as we stood atop the steps of the Heathern Court. The two men falling in line beside me, one on either side, and before me stood an army of nymph, ready to fight another day.
Their victory cries reminded me of the moment after Ganglin had unlocked the chest. Leaving me to wonder what exactly was so important in that box that Ganglin had orchestrated the entire enslavement of my race.
But for now we were okay. For now, the nymphs of the Heathern Court were free.
And that was enough.
