Ryder laughed again and pulled Willa close, smoothing her silky black hair. “Together, we’ve got this. Boy or girl, we’ll raise them with every ounce of love we have to give. And,” he added, “at least you know I’m good at bottle feeding, if you need help in that department.”
Epilogue
Dr. Lachele was on the phone with Lightheuser PR on the Matchrimony landline when her cellphone buzzed on the desk beside her. She picked it up, swiped the screen automatically, and then squealed, interrupting Jerry Lightheuser mid-monologue. The photo that had just been sent to her showed a wrinkled up little prune of a baby girl, with a shock of thick, dark hair and eyes that Lachele was just sure would still be blue in a few months.
“It’s a girl!” she crowed. “I just knew it!”
“Who’s a what?”
“Your old partner Ryder is a daddy! He’s sent me a pic of my newest Matchrimony Munchkin.” She quickly printed the photo.
“Well, that’s good for him. Bad for me, though.”
“Why’s that, Jer?” Lachele practically danced over to her wall of Munchkins and pinned up the newest addition.
“Belinda, Bernadette, and Beatrice are going to be bummed.”
But Lachele was hardly listening. “Raven Pearce,” she said admiringly. “What a dramatic name for such a tiny little girl. I approve. Oh, listen, Jerry, I have to go. I’m getting another call. Talk to you next week.” She couldn’t help but wish Willa was right there so she could give her a huge boobie bump.
She danced back to her desk and clicked the button to switch lines. “Matchrimony,” she sang out. “What can we do for you?”
“Ah, is this Dr. Lachele?” A man’s deep voice poured like honey through the speaker, and Lachele grinned. She did like a man with a nice-sounding voice.
“Speaking,” she chirped.
“My name is Brodie Williams. I’m a friend of Willa and Ryder Pearce, and I was wondering if you could do some matchmaking for me.”
