The Alpha's a Bitch: Rise Of The Pack Princess Complete: A Paranormal Werewolf Romance Page 11

“I did a couple of minutes ago,” said one lady in the crowd.

“The ambulance should be here soon,” said another man in the crowd.

The crowd continued to talk among itself as Kahn watched from afar. Despite all the hubbub around him, David continued to lay there – still. Very still. Kahn watched for any sign of movement and just when he was getting worried, he saw it. First he saw David’s leg’s move – and then his arms… and after a few more seconds he saw him sit up.

David looked dazed and confused but other than that seemed to be in good physical shape. Had a regular human being been hit by the same SUV the turnout would have been very different, but thanks to his wolf heritage and his superhuman strength he would probably be 100% in another minute or two.

David continued to sit in the street for another 20 with 30 seconds as the crowd milled around him. They asked him 100 questions all at the same time. “Are you okay, Mister?” asked one older man.

“Now just be still son, an ambulance will be here in just a minute,” said one man as he bent over David and touched his shoulder. “That was one nasty hit you took.”

David just looked at the man as he sat there, still a little confused at what had just happened to him, and just shook his head as he smiled in acknowledgment to everything the man said. Immediately afterward, not even 30 seconds later, David stood up despite all the help the crowd was trying to give him to keep him seated.

Some even cheered when he stood, kind of like crowds do when an injured athlete manages to stand after being knocked out during a game. But David stood there anyway for a moment and shook a few hands of the people that had helped him while he was out. And then came the unmistakable sound of an ambulance siren off in the distance. David wasted no time running away from the crowd at top speed before the ambulance arrived.

The crowd stood speechless watching him run away. In only seconds he was hundreds of feet away. A few pointed in his direction as the ambulance pulled in but it was too late – he was already gone. The driver of the damaged SUV and the rest of the small crowd continued to talk between themselves about what it happened, surprised at the events of the evening and hoping that the man was okay.

Kahn wasn’t surprised he got away. In fact he was waiting for him to get up and move. He was actually surprised it took as long as it did so David on must have gotten a pretty nasty hit to the head on the pavement in the accident. But he was up now and on the move and that was a good sign to Kahn. The only problem now was that Kahn still had to catch up to him.

In his current human form Kahn was still faster than most, but David, being a werewolf, was exponentially faster. “Thank goodness he got hit by the car,” he mumbled to himself, “or I might not ever keep up with him.”

As it turned out David must have had a concussion or something because he was moving so slowly that Kahn easily kept up with him, only a half-mile or so behind and closing in. It seemed as though David didn’t know where he was heading, or maybe he did, but either way with all the zigging and zagging he was doing, he was doing his best to make sure that no one followed him. But Kahn was hot on his trail and would soon have him.

“David! Slow down, it’s me, man,” Kahn yelled lightly under his breath. “I’m here to help you, wait up!”

But either David didn’t hear him or acted as though he didn’t want to hear him, because he just kept on going. The forest was proving to be problematic too in that the land here was filled with potholes and crevices and the kudzu that covered everything here was really hard to walk through. If he wasn’t tripping in a hole, Kahn found that he was having a hard time keeping his balance as the kudzu did its best to capture his legs and feet with its long, thick vines.

David seem to be faring much better getting through the thick vines, perhaps it was because he knew this area better or maybe just because he was on all fours most of the time now. He hadn’t completely changed into his wolf form yet however his posture was very wolflike as he kept moving through the forest just doing his best to get away from the stranger who was following him. All he knew was that his head hurt like crap and he was having problems taking a deep breath and he needed to find a safe place to heal while he decided what to do next. But first things first – he needed to get away from the stranger.

Meanwhile, as Kahn pursued David, Ryder arrived at Simon’s place. She slammed on her brakes and came to a sliding stop in the graveled pavement of his front yard. Within seconds Simon and his lieutenants were out to greet her and to make sure that she had not been followed.

“Are you sure you weren’t followed?” Simon asked right off the bat.

“No way, I know lots of shortcuts and took a few of them to get here,” she said. “They have no idea where I am.”

“Well… good then, that gives us plenty of time to plan what we do next,” Simon said.

“Exactly how many people are we talking about?” asked one of Simons lieutenants.

“So what happened to you? Why were they trying to kill you?” asked another.

“Hang on… give the lady a chance to take a breath,” Simon said. “Jamie, go get her something to drink and eat okay?”

“Sure boss, be right back.” Jamie replied as he walked away toward the cabin right next door. Simon motioned her inside and then to a nearby leather sofa. He sat down right across from her on a matching leather ottoman.

“So… Tell us exactly what happened to you. Why did your cousins attack you in the first place? Did your brother David try to set you up or something? There are rumors in the pack that someone’s trying to take over your pack – is that right?” asked Simon.

“I don’t know where David is… or what he is doing, but something weird is going on…” Ryder explained, “Something I’m not quite sure of yet… but need to find out soon because I think someone’s trying to kill me. Even my cousins were trying to get me a few minutes ago and I don’t know what that was all about. Thank goodness I was able to get out of there alive. I just hope I don’t do anything to get you and your clan in trouble. That’s the last thing we all need.”

“Don’t you worry about us,” Simon remarked. “We can take care of yourselves – no one is going to bother us! But it’s you I am worried about right now.”

Just then Jamie reentered the room carrying two six packs of cold beer and a plate of sandwiches and chips that he sat on the kitchen table only a few feet away. Simon and his lieutenants rose as he motioned her toward the table now containing the beer and sandwiches. Ryder walked over, grabbed a cold one and spun off the metal top which she tossed into a nearby trashcan. Each of the men in room followed suit, grabbing a sandwich as well.

As they sat around the table drinking their beers, they all discussed what to do next. It was obvious to them all that Ryder was being set up for some reason. Ryder was content to let the men do most of the talking as she sat there fully entrenched in the role of victim. And the more they talked, the madder the men got. It was perfect! Everything was falling into place just like Ryder had dreamed.

After an hour or so of discussion, and long after all the beers had disappeared, they had come up with a plan to protect Ryder, take care of David and her scheming cousins and to make sure that she became Alpha all at the same time. The best part – it was all Simon’s plan.

Ryder hardly had to do anything – the boys took care of everything. The why, when, how, where… they had planned it all. And an ambush, as the men had planned, would be the perfect thing to take care of it all! And as far as Ryder was concerned that was wonderful… because if this all went south she could truthfully say that she had nothing to do with coming up with these plans.

Once all the guys had finished coming up with the big picture everyone but Ryder and Simon left the room. Ever the actress, just then a small tear formed in her left eye.

“I’m so sorry, for all of this,” she said to him as her voice shook. “Real
ly, I am. I didn’t mean to cause you so much trouble.”

Still sitting just opposite her, she reached out and rubbed his cold cheek with a gentle hand. Ryder stood and slowly leaned in closer to him over the table, her breath warming his skin as it traced along it. “Do you want me to leave?” she asked him quietly, her heart pounding slowly as she worried he would say yes.

Simon shook his head as he looked up at her. “No. Not if you don’t want to,” he said, but his normally confident voice wavered slightly as their eyes met.

“Okay,” she answered quietly, as she quickly brushed her lips tenderly against his. For a moment, he froze under the soft kiss. He didn’t move a muscle.

Ryder’s womanly magic was beginning to work on him. He found in her a mystique and a confidence too that no other woman he had ever been with before possessed. Then it hit him like a tsunami.

One minute, they were standing across from each other at the table. Then, as if a mighty storm had been brewing inside him, and had just broken, he struck. Before she knew what had happened, Ryder found herself lying with her back on the table and Simon was on top of her, his lips pressed tightly against hers. His tongue slithered between her lips and attacked hers like a fat girl eating a donut.

The couple’s wild passions raged inside the darkness of the cabin. She felt a sudden bolt of energy surge inside her, from her lips to her toes. Her entire body rose in temperature in response to him. She pressed back, wrapping her legs around his waist and sucking on his lower lip, flitting her tongue inside his mouth like an agile serpent.

It took her quite by surprise when he suddenly pulled her shirt to one side and wrapped his lips around her breast. She was not expecting that. But with her nipple now in his warm mouth she could no longer deny what was going to happen next. The next thing she knew he had picked her off the hard table and was heading for the bed. She hardly had time to prepare herself for it, mentally or physically. It all happened so fast.

Their lovemaking was fed by a mutual longing for each which had been building for the last several hours unknown to either of them. Their lovemaking lasted for hours as they lost themselves in each other. When they had finished, they both collapsed from exhaustion. Simon rolled onto his back as Ryder playfully curled up next to him.

Eventually, the pair fell fast asleep, curled up together in their tiny cabin refuge. Wrapped warmly in the blankets and comforters that filled the bed, they hugged each other tightly as the pack howled out into the night, and both fell asleep. The pair remained that way until well into the next morning when they were awakened by a knocking at the door.

Knock, knock! Knock, knock! Came a rapping on Simon’s front door.

“Just a second,” he yelled as he reached over and slowly jostled Ryder lying next to him. “Good morning,” he said to his sleepy guest. “Do you want to get up before I let them in?”

“Uh huh,” she said as she sat up in bed, trying to wipe her hair down into a more manageable state. “Give me a second and I’ll hop in the shower before you let them in, okay?”

Simon leaned over and kissed her sweetly on the lips knowing that if he continued on they might repeat what had happened the night before. But with a visitor waiting at the door he knew this wasn’t the time or place. “Whatever you want my love,” was all that he said as she stood up, wrapped herself in the sheets and headed for the bathroom.

In seconds he could hear the water running from the shower. He rose from the bed himself, wrapping his naked body in the blanket that normally covered his bed and headed for the front door. “Coming… Just a minute!”

As soon as he reached the front door he opened it and saw his first Lieutenant standing there with a few of his other men directly behind him. They did not look happy. “Well, good morning gentlemen. So… What is the reason for this visit so early this morning?”

The men motioned Simon out onto his front porch, still wrapped in his blanket, and shut the door behind him – they wanted to make sure that this information was for his ears only. The small group had a discussion that lasted about five minutes and when it was all done Simon went back indoors to find Ryder out of the shower, drying her dark hair with a towel, still draped in the sheet from earlier.

“So… did you sleep well? Are you hungry? Do you like coffee… I can make us some,” he asked her as he walked back toward the bathroom.

He stood outside the bathroom door once he got back there, just watching her primp and play with her hair. She was a beautiful woman… her long dark hair hung just below her shoulders in waves of curls and he was mesmerized just watching her comb through the locks. “Yes, I did sleep well thank you. But I think you knew that already,” she said as she laughed playfully, still combing her hair. “And some coffee would be great if you have any,” she said.

“Perfect, I’ll make us a cup right now,” he said as he walked toward the kitchen. In a couple of minutes he returned with a cup of hot coffee, one in each hand. He handed her the one in his left hand, saying rather sheepishly, “This is my best coffee cup – my others are all kind of chipped.”

She took the warm coffee from him and held it in both hands as she stepped over and lightly kissed him on the lips. Then she walked back over to her clothes, dropped the sheet and got dressed as he watched her, still drinking his coffee. “So… what are we going to do today? I have things I need to do back at my home but I want to see what you have planned first before I do anything else. I need to find out what exactly happened last night after I left… and the only way I can do that is to go back home.”

She was not shy in the least getting dressed in front of him. In fact, if anything, she was teasing him a little as she got dressed, slowly putting on each bit of clothing as she got ready to leave. This was a definite contrast in how she got undressed last night. “What do you want me to do now?”

“Of course… I’d like you to stay with me…”he said shyly, ” but I know with all this going on… that you need to find out the truth from your pack about what’s going on before you can decide what to do next. That’s understandable.”

He walked into the bathroom and sat down on the side of bathtub, still sipping his coffee as he continued watching her dress. “But me and the boys have everything taken care of, so don’t you worry. All I ask, is that you be careful when you’re going back to your pack and if you ever feel scared, just let me know – I will be there in an instant. All you have to do is call me. Otherwise, as far as David and your cousins are concerned, don’t worry, we’ll handle it.”

Ryder walked over to him and kissed him sweetly on the lips just as soon as he finished talking. She was completely dressed now wearing the same outfit she had on last night when she first arrived – black flats, a purple and black trimmed body suit, and steel bracelets, one on each arm. And she looked hot! He was having a hard time controlling himself from grabbing her and repeating the events of last night.

“Thank you…” she said as she bent down to kiss him once again, “thank you so very much for doing this for me. I was so worried last night that I would have no one helping me… and now here you are doing all this for me. Please don’t do anything that will hurt you or your men. That’s the last thing I would ever want to happen.”

They both stood and he kissed her again. But harder this time, and with more intensity. She knew exactly what this kind of kiss could lead to, so she pulled away to have a sip of coffee as she sweetly touched his face. She took his hand in hers and led him from the bathroom back into the main room of the cabin where they sat and talked for another half hour or so before she left.

He didn’t want her to go but he knew she had things to do. They were both independent beings and very strong-willed and he could appreciate that in her. Right before she left, as they stood just inside the front door, she kissed him deeply once more and told him to call her with details of what happened as soon as he knew them. She also told him s
he would do the same. And as soon as she told him that, she left.

About an hour or so later, just as soon as Simon had the time to get dressed and eat a little breakfast, he called his men to his quarters where they went over the plan again on exactly what they were going to do concerning David and Ryder’s cousins too. And Kahn as well for that matter. And then they all dispersed since they all had jobs to do.

In the midst of last nights activities David did manage to get away from Kahn. Even in his injured state David managed to outfox him somehow which totally pissed Kahn off. So there was nothing he could do but try to find the cousins and see what was going on with them. He’d been so focused on finding David that he had no idea where the others were or what kind of shape they were in.

He also wondered about where Ryder was and what she was up to? Who knows what kind of trouble she could be causing right now? And all the time he had known her he had never thought for a second that she could be so conniving as she had shown herself to be. But she had indeed proven herself to be one mean bitch!

So there was nothing he could do now really other than backtrack his steps and hope he could find Ashton and his brothers quickly. So that’s exactly what he did. Only this time, instead of going through the forest and kudzu, he headed for the road nearest him and backtracked that way. It wasn’t long before he was back at the site of last night’s festivities. Surprisingly enough, Ashton, Dunne and Erik were still there waiting for him.

“Where have you been,” asked Ashton, as soon as he saw Kahn approaching them.

“Oh… Just out playing in nature.” Kahn answered sarcastically. “What the hell do you think I’ve been doing all night, Ashton? Twiddling my thumbs? I was tracking David until he up and lost me a few hours ago.”
