“Yes,” she breathed. “Please.”
Pushing forward, he slid his cock into her slowly, pressing inch by inch until his balls were touching her slick entrance. “Christ,” he hissed. “I can never get over just how good you feel.” Pushing her shoulders down so that her ass thrust higher into the air, he spread her cheeks a little wider. “I’m just going to touch you for now, is that all right?”
“Yes,” she gasped. “Please.”
Licking his thumb, he pressed it gently against her tight, pink asshole, then started to rub it in slow circles as he thrust in and out of her pussy. Biting the inside of his cheek, he did his best to pace himself, wanting to make this last as long as possible. Her answering moans told him that she was enjoying it, so he took it a step further and slipped his thumb inside her.
“Oh yes,” she groaned, arching her back.
“Does that feel good?” he rasped, sliding his finger in and out of her ass, matching the pace of his thrusts.
“Yes,” she gasped, pushing back against him. “Please… faster.”
Yes. He quickened his pace, the pleasure building inside him as he stared down at her and marveled how beautiful she was. Her alabaster skin was luminescent in the moonlight, which showed off her curves to absolute perfection, and he couldn’t get over how sexy her hair looked, tumbled over one shoulder to expose the back of her neck. She turned her head then to look at him with her heavy lidded eyes, and the look in them was nearly enough to make him come right then and there.
Sucking in a breath, he pulled her more firmly against him and began to fuck her harder, their bare flesh slapping together as he increased the friction. Just when he thought he couldn’t hold on any longer, she shuddered around him, convulsing as another orgasm hit, and he groaned in relief as he finally let himself come. Fingers digging into her hips, he rode out waves of pleasure so intense, he went temporarily blind from it.
Utterly spent, he rolled off to the side, then tucked her against his chest, wanting to feel her damp skin against his. Looking up at the canopy ceiling, he wondered if it would ever be possible to get enough of this woman, this woman who he so desperately loved.
Chapter Nine
“I should really go now.”
Brendan sat up, confusion glimmering in his slumberous eyes. He looked absolutely gorgeous – his hair tousled, his white shirt open and hanging off his lean, muscular body, his tie hanging loose around his neck to drape across his washboard abs. The moonlight gave his pale skin a pearly glow, highlighting the flush still riding his high cheekbones from their lovemaking. A huge part of her wanted to sink back down on the bed with him, to straddle his big body and run her hands through his inky black hair as she kissed the breath out of him.
Instead, she tugged the zipper up on the back of her dress, then went hunting for her shoes.
“Come back to my place,” he suggested, swinging his legs over the bed to stand.
She found one shoe, tugged it on, then went looking for the other. “Brendan, I can’t –”
“What, I’m allowed to come to your place, but you’re not allowed to come to mine?” Glowering, he snatched her up off her unbalanced feet, then set her back on the bed.
“Let me up!” She pounded her fist against his deltoid, but he ignored her, kneeling down by her feet. She opened her mouth to protest again, then quieted as he fished her other shoe out from beneath the bed.
“Please,” he murmured, slipping the shoe onto her foot with the same delicate reverence she imagined Prince Charming had used when he’d slid the glass slipper onto Cinderella’s dainty foot. “I want you to come home with me, to share my bed with me. Are you so ready for this night to end already?”
He looked up at her with those clear, brilliant blue eyes framed by his sinfully black lashes, and she was lost. There was such depth of longing in those eyes, such sincerity, that it stole her breath, rendering her incapable of doing anything except leaning in and placing a soft kiss on his lips. Placing his hands on her shoulders, he returned the kiss, his mouth pressing gently against hers.
“I’m guessing that’s a yes?”
She nodded, nuzzling her nose against his.
Fifteen minutes later, they were riding in the back his black Mercedes-Benz, heading across town to Brendan’s apartment, which she gathered from his brief conversation with the driver was in the Theater District. Looking out the window, she gazed unseeing out at the city as they whizzed by skyscrapers and food trucks and mom-and-pop shops. She was so used to being out there amongst the quickly moving crowds, being the one who glanced over occasionally at limousines driving by and envying their passengers. Now that she was inside one, it seemed so incredibly isolating, like she wasn’t just a window pane away from the outside, but an entire world away instead.
Swiveling her head around to face Brendan, she saw that he was studying her, curiosity glimmering in his eyes. She knew he must be wondering what she was thinking, why she’d put this sudden distance between them, but rather than push, he waited patiently for her to speak.
Gathering the words in her mind, she took a deep breath before she pushed them out. “Being rich and famous… it’s changed you.”
Blinking, he shifted in his seat a little, turning his body so that it faced hers. “What do you mean?”
Callie sighed. “All of this… it’s been a little like a fairy tale so far.” A naughty fairy tale, maybe, a voice in her head whispered, and she blushed at the memory of how they’d made love tonight, how he’d played with her ass and she’d actually liked it. “But back when we were together before, you were never quite so… extravagant.”
Brendan lifted an eyebrow. “Money may have changed my tastes a bit, but it hasn’t changed who I am.” He took her hand in his, brushed his lips across the back of her hand, then nipped at the skin covering her knuckles, sending sparks skipping across her arm.
“Maybe not, but back when we first dated it wasn’t as if we did anything like this, even when it was within our means.” She stared out the window again as they passed Times Square, and a memory hit her suddenly. “I think the most extravagant thing we’ve ever done together was the time you took me to see Phantom of the Opera, and even then we had back row seats.” She smiled a little. “But it didn’t matter much to me, because I was just happy to be together with you. I was happy to go to all those local artist concerts, to eat at mom-and-pop restaurants with you, to go on walks and hikes and do all the little things we did together.”
“Callie.” Brendan’s face was serious, and yet the look in his eyes was so tender Callie felt tears gather in the back of her throat. “The fact that I’ve been taking you to fancy places and buying you things isn’t because I’m trying to make up for leaving you,” he said, stealing the words right out of her head before she had the chance to say them. “I’ve been doing it because I want to share the fruits of my labor with you, and because you deserve to experience the finer things in life. I guess I’ve graduated from hole-in-the-wall pizza joints to thousand dollar steaks when I’m in the mood, and instead of going out in ripped jeans and Distressed tees all the time I sometimes dress up and bring my manners with me places. The truth is, you’ve missed the part in my life where I grew up a little, and you shouldn’t have. You should have been with me every step of the way, but instead I pushed you out.” His grip moved from her hand up to waist, and he pulled her a little closer. “I’m trying to make you a part of my life, to show you a little more about the man I’ve become more recently. But, I guess if you’re too uncomfortable with it then maybe I shouldn’t bring you home after all.”
His face fell, and Callie’s heart twisted at the forlorn expression on his face. “Don’t be silly,” she said, placing her palm against his cheek. Day-old stubble teased her palm as she gently stroked his face. “Of course I want to be part of your life, or at least to try. I may not be used to this new side of you, but I know that you’re still in this suave new exterior.” Smiling, she rapped her knuckles gently
against his forehead. “I’d love to see your place.”
“Then you shall.” Face brightening once more, he pulled her onto his lap for another kiss. Pressing her lips against his, she inhaled his scent greedily, enjoying the way he seemed to surround her, cocooning her with the warmth of his presence. His hands slid up and down her bare back, sending goose bumps rippling down her neck and arms, and she shifted, feeling his erection press against her once more.
Insatiable. The word echoed through her mind as she wrapped her arms around his neck, sliding her tongue between his lips, but instead of shrinking away, she embraced it. As far as this man was concerned, she was utterly wanton and proud of it. His hands slid beneath the back of her dress to touch her between her legs, and she lifted her ass to give him better access, loving the way he set her on fire and made her burn for his touch. She moaned as two of his fingers slid into her, pushing against her g-spot and sending sizzling currents of electricity through her. Were they going for round 2, right here in the car? She’d never had sex in a limo before, but it was definitely something on her bucket list, maybe even something they could check off right now…
The car slid to a halt, then, and Brendan withdrew his fingers, smoothing her dress back into place. Giving her one last scorching kiss, he gently set her back down on the seat, then sat back as the driver opened the door. Flushed and trembling, she took a breath to steady herself, then took the driver’s hand, allowing him to help her out of the car.
As Brendan bid the man a good night, she tilted her head back to stare up at the black skyscraper that disappeared up into the night sky. “Which floor did you say you lived on?” she asked as Brendan took her by the hand to lead her inside.
“The penthouse.”
Holy shit. She tried not to gape as he led her through the brass doors, stepping into a lobby dominated with white marble and gold. A uniformed guard manned the reception desk, and he greeted Brendan with a friendly smile that told her the two of them had known each other for some time. She watched as the man crossed the lobby over to a bank of elevators, then swiped a card key to grant them access.
“Have a good night, Sir, Ma’am.” The guard bobbed his head as the elevator doors closed behind them.
“What happens if the guard isn’t on duty when you come home?” Callie asked, but Brendan was already pushing her against the elevator wall, pressing kisses against the collar of her throat.
“I have a card key if he isn’t here,” he mumbled between kisses, “but he likes to open the elevator himself when he’s around. Gives him something to do.”
“Makes sense.” Callie gasped as he bit down on the tendon above the hollow at the base of her throat. She moaned as he began sucking the spot, her hands sliding through his hair to hold him in place. The elevator dinged then, causing her to let out a frustrated groan, but Brendan didn’t miss a beat; he scooped her up into his arms, wrapping her arms and legs around him as he continued to suck and lick at her neck.
He walked through what appeared to be another lobby area, this one done in white walls and white-veined black marble tile, an obsidian table with a huge arrangement of fresh flowers and fruit gracing the room with the only splash of color. He led them through a pair of white and gold French doors, and Callie caught a glimpse of a sprawling living room done in black and white and red, the walls made completely of glass to offer them a stunning view of the city, as he carried up a winding staircase.
Guess I’ll get the grand tour some other time, she thought as he cupped her ass with one hand, squeezing firmly, while he used the other to open the door to what she was hoping was his bedroom.
As Brendan flipped on the light switch, Callie fully expected him to toss her onto the bed and have his wicked way with her, but instead he froze. “Brendan!” a woman’s smoky voice, tinged with a British accent, filled the room. “I’ve been waiting for you forever… oh! Who the hell is that?”
Wriggling out of Brendan’s grip, Callie spun around to find a very gorgeous, very naked woman lying in the center of Brendan’s king sized bed. Scrambling, the woman managed to yank the fur throw by the foot of the bed up to her chest, covering her nakedness, but not before Callie managed to take in her clear, tanned, supple-looking skin and impossibly perfect breasts. White blond hair cascaded over her slim shoulders and around an elf-like face with huge green eyes that glared daggers at her.
“Nadia.” Utter shock echoed in Brendan’s voice. “What… what the hell are you doing here?”
Recovering her composure, the woman sat up, straightening her spine and giving him a dry look. “Darling, please, now you’re just insulting me. First you forget to come and pick me up from the airport, and then when I manage to find my way to your bed on my own to try and surprise you, you come in the door with this woman wrapped around your waist. I knew you were shameless, but not this shameless.” She raked Callie with a scathing look. “If you’d wanted a threesome, you should have just let me know ahead of time and I would have arranged for someone more… suitable.”
Callie, who had been standing there in mute shock up to this moment, balled her hands into fists as fury took hold of her. Thrusting a finger in the woman’s direction, she scorched Brendan with a look of her own. “Who the hell is this woman, and what is she talking about?”
Nadia threw her head back and laughed, a musical sound that grated along Callie’s nerves. “Oh, you are such a devilishly wicked man. What? Did you not get the message that I was coming to see you?” She tilted her head back, throwing Callie another haughty look. “My dear girl, I suppose he just forgot about all about me when he picked you up off the street tonight. I always come and… spend the night with him whenever we happen to cross paths.”
It only took one look into Brendan’s stricken gaze for Callie to confirm the truth in Brendan’s words. “I…” he started to speak, but Callie shook her head violently, cutting him off. Her whole world was spinning right now, tears blurring her vision, and she was torn between the desire to be sick or punch Brendan in the nose. Unable to do either, she turned on her heel and ran out the door.
“Callie!”
She heard the thundering of Brendan’s footsteps on the stairs behind her, but she didn’t turn to look. Her heart racing, she ran into the lobby, frantically looking for an exit. She found a door with a red EXIT sign glowing above it off to the side, and dashed into the stairwell, flinging herself down the flights of stairs, wanting nothing more than to get away.
Rushing through the lobby, she ignored the startled security guard and burst through the double doors out onto the street. The cold, grimy sidewalk stung her toes, but she ignored the sensation, hurrying toward the crosswalk.
“Callie, wait!” Brendan grabbed her by the arm, pulling her around to face him. His face was flushed with his exertion, his chest heaving, though not quite as hard as hers was from his mad dash after her. “It’s not what you think – Nadia and I haven’t been involved in months. I had no idea that she’d show up here.”
The stricken look in his eyes was nearly enough to make her crumble. She opened her mouth to speak, then glanced over his shoulder to see that Nadia, covered in a long, white coat, hurrying toward them through the glass door. Pain sliced at the fresh wound in her heart.
“Brendan, I can’t.” The words came out as a sob, and she spun around again, rushing into the street, trying get away from them, from him, from everything –
“Callie, look out!”
It all happened so fast – the squeal of tires, a horn blaring, and then hands were shoving her out of the way, sending her crashing to her belly on the asphalt. She heard a thud, then, and voices shouting.
“Oh God, no!” A car door opened, and she turned to see a man rushing out of his Lincoln, in the middle of the street. Her head spun at the sight of a man lying on the ground a few feet from the car, blood trickling from what she could see of his temple, the red rivulets stark in contrast to his pale skin and jet black hair.
Oh my God. “No,
no!” Callie cried, stumbling to her feet. She rushed over to Brendan, who was sprawled face first onto the ground, and helped the man who’d hit him turn him over. She ran her hands over his body, trying to check for injuries, a pulse or anything, but she was so frantic she didn’t know what to look for. “Oh God, oh God, oh God,” she chanted, her panic rising to the edge of hysteria.
“I’m so sorry,” the man next to her babbled. He stood there, wringing his hands while his wife dialed 911 in the background, but Callie barely heard him. She was completely focused on Brendan, who lay on the ground, completely unresponsive to him. Tears streaming down her cold cheeks, she grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him, calling his name until hands grabbed hold of her upper arms and dragged her away, far away while paramedics converged on him.
Please, please, she thought even as she fought the officers carrying her away, please let him be alive.
Chapter Ten
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The noises prodded at Brendan’s consciousness, forcing him out of unconsciousness and to the edge of the darkness in his mind. A dull ache throbbed at his temples, spreading down throughout his entire body, and he let out a soft moan. Why did he feel like total shit?
“Brendan?”
His eyes cracked open at the sound of Callie’s sweet voice, so filled with anxiety and concern. The white light from the horizontal bulbs set into the ceiling nearly blinded him, sending shooting pains straight through his skull, and he hissed, turning to the side to get away from the light. Doing so sent more stabbing pains through his ribs, and he groaned aloud, feeling as though his entire body was on fire.
