Dark Wolf: Wolf Shifter Romance (Wild Lake Wolves Book 2) Page 18

  Kill. Die.

Luke’s bloodlust coursed through me, making my whole body shake. He was losing himself. The town formed a circle around him. Watching. Waiting. Gerard Karrow begged for his son’s life.

Beau would get his wish. Luke hungered for the kill. I staggered sideways, unable to contain the sensation. And then Pat was beside me. All sounds around me seemed to be coming from underwater. Pat pulled put her hands on my shoulders and tried to pull me away from the crowd. As if she could protect me from the horror of what Luke was about to do.

Everything went still. Luke’s hunger washed away like a tide, leaving plain human rage behind. The crowd moved back as he let go of Beau and shifted. Right in front of all of them.

Luke rose to his full height. His broad back glistened with sweat and he shook with barely contained rage. But, he did contain it. Bas stepped forward, holding Beau down beneath his powerful paws. Luke turned to me and walked away from Beau.

Relief flooded through Pat as she pulled me into a bear hug. Then, Grandpa was at my side just as Luke got to me. Grandpa straightened his back. His eyes shone through the deep creases of his weathered face as he looked at Luke, perhaps really seeing him for the first time. Not as a beast. A Wendigo. But, as the man he was. Flawed. Beautiful. Finally in harmony with the wolf inside of him. And both of them willing to die to protect me.

A slow smile lifted the corner of Wyatt Redbird’s face. His eyes dropped then met Luke’s again. Grandpa slowly removed his tan trench coat and held it out for Luke. In the heat of the moment, I hadn’t even realized my perfect man stood stark naked in the middle the town square.

Luke smiled. And took the coat, sliding it over his shoulders. Grandpa stepped forward and pulled Luke into an embrace. His eyes glistened with fresh tears, and my heart slid into my throat. Grandpa held out a hand and I took it. Then, he took Luke’s hand. The three of us stood there, in the middle of the square with the whole town watching.

My old family. My new family. I looked up at Luke, bursting with all the love in my heart.

  Epilogue

  “Hold still!”

The blades of grass tickled my naked back. Luke hovered over me, pinning my wrists above my head with one hand as he feathered kisses along the column of my throat. Gooseflesh covered me when his tongue reached my nipple. I squirmed beneath him.

“God, I love watching you,” he said. “All sun-dappled. Your hair like fire. And these.” He ran a finger along the dusting of freckles beneath my collarbone. He circled that finger around my nipple, his eyes flashing as it rose to a peak. Then he did the same to the other.

“You taste like cinnamon and sunshine.”

“You’re a brute.” I thrust my hips beneath him. He had me primed and ready, dripping for him. But he wouldn’t let me have what my body craved. Not yet. Not until he was good and finished delivering his own brand of sweet torture.

A breeze kicked in, helping Luke’s cause as it brushed across my naked breasts. After one of the longest winters on record, spring had finally come to Oodena. Luke took me up to our special place. A small clearing just on the banks of Miskwaa Creek where the town line merged with Wild Lake. It was a fitting place for what he had in mind. Odawa land and pack lands. They were both a part of me now as they were for him.

“Are you sure about this?” he asked me for the thousandth time.

“Why do you keep asking me that? You know I am. You know my heart, my love.”

“Hmm.” Luke leaned down again and kissed the space over my left breast where my heart beat the strongest in time with his own. “That I do.”

I found it harder and harder to concentrate on what he was saying. The Rise was better now, more manageable. But, I still craved Luke’s touch constantly. We’d spent hours right on this ridge, even during winter’s last gasp. It was far enough away from the house so we could get a little privacy, but close enough I could run back to Grandpa if he needed me.

Now, Luke and I knew each other’s bodies as well as we knew our hearts. He slid a hand between my thighs, coaxing them apart. My breath hitched in my throat as he touched me. As always, he found my growing wetness as my body rose to his. With the agile grace only a werewolf has, Luke flipped me so I straddled him. I closed my fingers around his firm erection, guiding him into my slick opening.

We stayed like that for a moment, his throbbing cock as deep as it could go. He filled me completely as he always did. I could stay like this forever. Sometimes, it felt like we did. And we had a lifetime of trying. That is, if he could ever bring himself to finish what he started when we came up here.

But, all thoughts of that went straight out of my head as I couldn’t hold still another second longer. Luke’s groan of pleasure sent a fresh rush of my juices around him.

“God, you feel like heaven. Sweet and warm.”

When he opened his eyes, the wolf stirred within him. As if I needed another sign that he was about to give in to his release. I clenched my walls around him. I could never hold out very long when I felt him rise beneath me. So, we came together as we did most of the time. His body was my body, and I was his. Luke’s hot seed filled me. He placed a firm hand at the center of my back as I arched into my own orgasm. I cried out, sending a flutter through the trees as a flock of birds took flight.

Luke reached up and tweaked my nipple, sending a shock of pleasure through me, pulsing from my core straight to the base of my neck where I bore his mark.

“I love you,” he whispered as I crested down. I smiled, letting my hair fall, forming a thick, red curtain around us both. “I love you. I love you.”

Finally, my legs gave out and I let him tuck me against his body, resting my head in the hollow of his shoulder where it fit the best.

“Now,” I whispered back. “Before I change my mind.”

Luke reached down and swatted my ass, sending me into a wave of giggles. Already, I felt the first tremors of need coursing through my veins. God, it seemed I would never get enough of this man.

Luke brought himself up, leaning on one elbow over me.

“Are you going to do it like that?” I asked.

“Yes,” he answered. “I’m going to do it exactly like that.”

It was so hard to concentrate as he stroked his fingers over my sensitive nipples. “Now, like I told you. Hold still.”

This time, I did. The sun peaked out over the tree tops and settled in Luke’s eyes, making them shine like real emeralds. His smile warmed me from the inside out, and I held my breath.

“Are you sure it’s what you want?”

“Ugh.” I slapped at his chest. “When are you ever going to stop asking me that? You know the answer. You can feel it in here, even if I don’t say the words.”

I held his hand to my heart. He held his hand to the slick juncture of my thighs. Already, I pulsed for him with fresh need. I couldn’t lie to him about how I felt, and I couldn’t lie to him about how much I wanted him. If there were ever a doubt, he could take a single fingertip to my most sensitive flesh and always find me ready.

I put my hand up to his heart. It beat steady and strong. He was fierce. He was kind. He was brutal and beautiful. Never again could he hide the light and dark places of himself from me. Not the wolf’s. Not the man’s. I loved them both in all their flawed perfection. And he loved me back.

Now, we had time. We had forever. Someday, he would bring me into heat and we would start a pack of our own. I wanted that more than anything. For him, for me. For Pat, even. But not today. Today was just about us and the one question that hung between us.

“Ask me,” I said, as I raised my lips to brush against his ear. His skin prickled under my touch and I nipped his earlobe, getting a wolfish noise in return.

He pulled me on top of him then settled me down, sheathing me over his erection. We were joined. Body and soul. Now there was just one last thing.

“Marry me,” he said. His voice held just enough wolf beneath the man that no matter what he asked I
might have begged him for the privilege to give it to him.

  “That’s not a question.”

“Rrrargh.” Then, my wolfman nearly barked at me. He leaned up and nipped at my chin. Then, his fingers tickled below my ribcage, sending me into fits of giggling as I struggled to stay seated. His cock pulsed inside of me. Soon, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything else.

“Yes!” I gasped, eager to start the slow grind my body demanded.

  “Yes, what?”

“Yes! I’ll marry you. It’s always been yes. You know it.”

I reached down and traced the line of his jaw. He had a dusting of light stubble that tickled beneath my fingertips. My heart swelled as I leaned down to answer him again with a kiss.

  “Yes. Now stop torturing me.”

Oh, but he didn’t. But as always, his delicious torture was low and deep and perfect. His light. His dark. My wolf. My man. Now and forever.

  THE END

  A Note from Kimber White

Thank you so much for letting me share Luke and Tamryn’s story with you. Since I began writing about the wolves of Wild Lake, Luke has occupied a very special place in my heart. He deserved his happy ending and I hope you enjoyed the journey it took for him to get there.

The next book in the series is all about that Bas! That man is large, in charge, and ALL Alpha. You’ll meet the largest pack in Wild Lake and watch our hunky Sebastian Lanier fight to protect it. Let’s just hope he can focus when he runs into a strong, leggy, brainy beauty who turns his head and stirs his loins. Rahr! Find out more about Bas in my next book, Primal Heat. Check here for more information.

If you’re new to the shifters of Wild Lake, you can find out more about what happened to Luke when he was with Asher’s pack in Rogue Alpha and the prequel series, Claimed by the Pack.
