“I did it. I killed her, and I’m sorry. Audrina’s innocent.”

“Are you sure about that, Jimmy?” McMahon said.

“Yes,” he said, “I have the cyanide at home, if you want to check. I usually use it for photography.”

  Everyone was taken aback.

“Well, we’ll make further investigations, but as of now, we have the evidence we need, and we’ll have to do what’s necessary.” They then removed Audrina’s handcuffs, and placed them around Jimmy’s wrists. Tripp and Jimmy shared a passing glance between them, and finally, Jimmy was brought down by McMahon’s cohorts so they could go to the station.

Tripp looked at Emmy, Daniel, Audrina, and Troy, took a deep breath and left, as well.

  It was over.

  CHAPTER 18

  IT ALL LEADS TO THIS

“Jimmy’s a nice guy." Audrina said, while she was sitting down with Daniel, Emmy, and Troy at the Byrne’s living room after the commotion was over. “He was nice, and…”

“And it all seems weird,” Emmy said, “There’s something missing,” she said, “but the evidences were there…” She took a deep breath, “Audrina, I’m sorry,” she said, “I didn’t—“

“It’s okay,” Audrina said, “We were all under a lot of pressure. I only said those things because…I don’t know, no one believed me anymore.”

“Did you see how Tripp looked at Jimmy and at all of us?”

“You know,” Audrina answered, “I guess, it all really just leads to this…”

They were silent for a while and then, “What are your plans?” Emmy asked Audrina.

She shrugged, “I have to leave, I guess,” she said, “I know you’re not asking me, too, but I have to. I have to go somewhere and find myself. Maybe, someday, things will clear up and we’ll know what we have to know…but for now, we’ll have to find ourselves first…”

Emmy nodded her head. She completely understood that.

“If you’ll excuse me,” Audrina said, “I’ll just go and fix my things.”

  “Let me help,” Troy said.

  Audrina nodded her head.

Then, it was just Daniel and Emmy at the living room. “So,” he started.

  “So…” She said.

“Do you want to maybe, go somewhere?”

  “I thought you’d never ask.”

  EPILOGUE

Emmy thought that the sight of kids riding the carousel was precious. They were at the Carnival and the air was crisp, and cold, but somehow, it had a way of making them feel warm and loved. Somehow, it made them realize that life is so much bigger than them, and that the investigations could be a part of the past. It would take them a while to move on, but they would, someday, somehow.

“Cotton candy for the princess?” Daniel said, as he gave her a Pink, fluffy, cotton candy on a stick.

“Why thank you, Mister.” she said.

For a while, they just walked around the carnival, without really saying anything. They didn’t need to. Even back then, they were the kind of couple who didn’t need to fill up silences with unnecessary words.

Then, they found a bench—their old bench. Well, they didn’t really own it, but it was where they spent most of their time before.

“You know,” Emmy said as they sat down, “I don’t think Jimmy’s the only suspect in this…there’s really something odd with his interactions with Tripp."

“I know,” Daniel said, “but Emmy, you have to relax,” he said, “You did your best, and it wasn’t even your job. What would come would come."

She nodded her head, “I guess you’re right.” She then spoke softly. “Dan.”

  “Yeah?”

“You know how I never wrote you when I was in Paris?”

  He laughed, “Yeah, that hurt."

She chuckled, “That wasn’t really true…I mean, I did write you a letter, and I kept it with me all this time.”

“Really now?” He said, “Why didn’t you send it?”

“Because I was scared,” she said, “And I felt like…like I really wasn’t sure of anything before."

“No one’s ever really sure of anything."

“I know,” she said, “but I guess, I’m—“

“Complicated,” he said, “You always were."

She laughed, “I just didn’t know, you know? I didn’t know if it was right…if I was really ready for all of these…and I just…”

  “Can I read this letter?”

  “What?”

  “Come on."

She sighed, “Fine,” She then took it out of her purse and gave it to Daniel. It was now a bit yellowed with age.

Daniel started to read for what seemed like an eternity. After he finished reading, he closed the letter and kept it in his pocket, “This is mine now." he said.

  “Dan.”

“Well,” he said, “Emilia Byrne,” he went on, “You gave me the letter, which means that—“

She laughed, “Well, that all depends on you."

“You’ve always been my dream girl." He said, “No, you have always been my girl. And I guess, today’s’ the day.”

  “Dan—“

“I love you,” He looked into her eyes and she knew with certainty that though a lot of things have changed, some have stayed the same—and one of those things is her feelings for Daniel.

“I love you, too,” She said.

They kissed, the beautiful orange and violet sunset their witness. She wasn’t planning to leave anymore, at least not yet. They knew that a lot of things would still happen, and that so much more was about to come.

But for now, they had each other—and that was enough.

  Or is it?

  WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Emmy was happy to be back together with Daniel, the love of her life—but things really aren’t as rosy as they seem.

After Jimmy was incarcerated, Audrina left town for an indefinite period of time, and now, it’s just Emmy and her dad at home. Daniel vowed to help them in their business, and Emmy decided to push through with her online cupcake business and her wedding gown store.

One day, one of her clients asked her to help coordinate a wedding in Beaches and Coffee, their coffee shop located at the Sky Valley Resort. Emmy wasn’t sure if she wanted the job, but the client was persistent. And her dad wanted her to do it, too, so she could move on from what happened to Annabeth.

  So Emmy gives in.

But she didn’t know that it would be the start of another set of mysterious things.

What awaits Emmy at the resort?

Are her worst fears over—or are they just starting?

And more so, what secrets will she find out?
