“I get it now. I do. Doesn’t mean I don’t miss you. Or wish that you were here. You were always so filled with light.” I looked at the ground and somehow felt disconnected. I know that was where the coffin actually was but I felt nothing to the ground. The white stone was all I had left.
“But don’t worry. I’ll be ok now. I may have drifted in the darkness for a long time but I’ve found my light now. My angel to watch over me.” I looked back towards the crowd that had formed by the big oak tree that guarded the cemetery.
Her hair was flowing in the wind as she threw her head back in laughter at something Aiden was saying. My starlight. My angel. She lived and breathed the air around us. I would never be dragged into the dark as long as I had her. Her head turned toward mine and our souls connected. She knew this was hard for me, but yet we came. I looked back at the stone and gestured my head towards Lily.
“You always thought she and I would be good together. You were right. Be at peace brother.” I stood and walked toward my world. After the medics had woken me from that hospital bed, I wasn’t going to take anything for granted. I waited hours before they had told me that Lily was ok and they saved her. I waited for another four days for her to become conscious again to breathe. Even though she still would get a twitch in her left hand every once in a while all the other symptoms hadn’t lingered. She was ok. Her smile grew as I approached until I swept her into my arms. Then her smile brightened with the magnitude of the heavens.
“You ok?” She asked. I leaned down and kissed her. Ignoring my family behind us.
“As long as I have you the light in my life, I will always be ok.” I felt the bite of the engagement ring that rested on her left hand on my bicep as she squeezed me.
“Then we are in for a happy rest of our lives because I will always be in your life.” She answered and I had finally found peace. No matter what may come our way, we had love and each other. We would conquer it; we would live in the light.
