“I want you so bad, but I can’t believe we’re doing this,” Thea murmured to him in between kisses, her cold hands touching every part of his toned stomach.

“I know,” Kato agreed, kissing her neck and smiling when she began to get goosebumps of pleasure from his caress. “Are you sure you want to?”

Kato looked down, meeting her ice-blue eyes that were filled with desire. For him.

“Yes,” she said breathlessly. “I’m more than sure.”

Before Kato could say anything else, Thea sat up and flipped him around. Now his back was on the mattress, and Thea was the one straddling him. She straddled herself over his lower half, and when she hungrily kissed him, her blue eyes lighting up with need, he knew that she could feel how hard he had grown.

She softly straightened up, and slowly, very slowly, began to take off her silk top. Kato wanted to rip it off desperately, and when he tried to sit up to help her, she smirked and gently pushed him back down. Her light-blonde hair was loose and wavy, surrounding her like a white halo.

When she threw her top off the bed and he saw her naked chest, he felt himself seem to harden even more. Thea giggled, leaning down and kissing him again. This time, Kato roughly flipped her over so that she was back on the mattress, her hair fanning all around her. Kato reminded himself to be more careful with her because she was human, but he felt reassured when he noticed that she was laughing from his desire.

He smirked back at her, nipping her neck slightly.

“You can touch me, you know,” she teased, grabbing one of his hands and placing it on her naked breast, mimicking her move earlier. He caressed her nipple, making her eyes flutter slightly.

“Oh, can I?” Kato teased right back, smirking at her as he leaned down and played with her nipple with his tongue. He heard her moan with pleasure, her body moving under him from the gratification he was giving her.

“Alright, no more smart-ass talk from me,” she managed to say, breathless. “I want your pants off.”

“Bossy, are we?” Kato teased her, his lips meeting hers again. Kato was going to speak again before he felt Thea begin to unbutton his jeans, her hands taking them off until she could feel his hard desire for her. And when she began to caress that desire with her hands, Kato moaned and almost dropped on top of her from the pleasure he was experiencing.

“I think you like it when I’m bossy,” she murmured in his ear. Kato saw her smirk then, delighting him beyond belief. In a quick moment, his jeans were off and on the floor, only his boxers and her silk shorts left to take off.

Kato gently pulled down her shorts, and when he saw that she wasn’t wearing any underwear underneath them, his wolf inside him begged to hurry up the pace. He wanted her now, and her naked body was spread beneath him. She smirked up at him, that hazy desire still in her eyes. He knew that it was in his, too.

Thea decided to slide his boxers off, feeling his hard desire for her again. But, now that there was no fabric between him and her soft hands, he thought he was going to lose it right then and there. He moaned loudly, her hands giving him bliss. If her hands were making him feel this good, he could only imagine how he was going to feel after everything was said and done.

“Condom,” Kato managed to choke out through his moans, and when Thea left quickly to grab one from her bathroom, he missed her touch desperately. He had to be smart, though. The last thing he needed was to accidentally impregnate his best friend on their first hook up–especially because she was human.

Thea returned, sliding underneath him again, ripping the packet open with her teeth and sliding it onto him, making him moan again from just her touch.

“Are you sure, Thea?” Kato asked one more time, knowing that they had already gone pretty far, but wanting to make sure both of them were making this right decision.

“Baby,” was all she moaned, bending her knees slightly and pulling him to her in a kiss, inviting him in completely.

Kato entered her in one fluid motion, both of them crying out in pleasure in that first thrust. Kato, somehow through his haze and horniness, reminded himself that he had to be gentle with Thea. He couldn’t show her his full strength because she was a human. He picked up the speed slightly, pulsing within her and growing crazy from the sounds she was making. He never wanted this moment to end.

  “More,” Thea moaned to him.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” Kato panted out, slowing down a little bit.

“More,” Thea commanded him, her blue eyes fierce and full of lust. He thought that he was going to lose it right then and there.

He picked the pace up, thrusting into her faster and harder, but still keeping his strength in check. Their moans collided together, both of them beyond pleased, their bodies seeming to find pleasure in each other like they never had before.

When Thea released all of her pent-up energy, she cried out his name. Her saying his name and clenching around him made him release immediately after her, making him moan in the crook of her neck until he was finished.

He felt his body slacken completely against hers, pleasure still seeming to ripple everywhere within him. When he dropped to the side of the bed, his body still touching hers, he looked over to see her smiling back at him. He smiled at her, his hand reaching up to cup her face and meet her lips for one soft, gentle kiss.

“That was amazing,” she whispered to him.

And she was right. It was.

  Chapter 11

“I feel like you’re freaking out in your head right now,” Thea told Kato, who was holding her in his arms. Her head was on his chest, and she hadn’t been able to get the smile off her face since they had sex. But Kato had grown silent, and even though it was a comfortable silence, Thea knew that he was, more than likely, overthinking something right now. “Is it about me being a human again?”

“Yeah,” Kato sighed, lightly running his fingers over her arm and shoulder where he held her. “But also, I just had sex with my best friend.”

Both Kato and Thea laughed, Thea covering her face as she felt it go red from embarrassment. She couldn’t believe it either–but at least they were able to laugh at the whole thing.

“Okay, so obviously this is new territory for both of us,” Thea giggled. Even though it was a bit weird that she just had sex with Kato, she was beyond pleased with how things were happening. It felt like everything had happened so fast, even though she felt like her feelings had been brewing deep within her for years.

“I don’t regret it,” Kato told her, turning his head so that he could look down at her. She smiled and titled her head up so that she could meet his eyes.

“I don’t either,” she whispered back to him. She was so happy, she almost couldn’t believe it.

Kato rolled slightly so that they were both laying on their sides, both looking at each other. He grabbed her waist and pulled her close to him, kissing her again and again.

“I don’t want to ever leave this bed,” he murmured in between kisses.

  “Then don’t,” she murmured back.

“We do have to talk about…well, us,” Kato reminded her, breaking off the kisses and staring into her eyes.

“Well, I’ll be honest with you then,” she told him, taking one for the team and admitting how much she liked him first. “This isn’t just a hookup for me. This isn’t just for sex–even though the sex is a big plus. You know that I’ve always loved you, Kato. Now, it’s just a little different. But I want there to be an ‘us’.”

“I do, too,” he admitted, playing with her hair again.

  “Okay, then why the face?”

  “Because you’re–,”

“Oh, don’t start with the human thing again,” Thea said, rolling her eyes.

“It’s true though, Thea. That’s a huge issue in the shifter world, regardless of how much I love you. There may be issues within the pack if I decide…well, if I decide to mate with yo
u. If I decide that this thing between us is long term. And I’m going to be the next alpha, if Hann has his say–and there’s no reason why he wouldn’t. It’s just…It’s complicated.”

“Well why don’t we figure out this complicated mess, then? Together. Because, whether you like it or not, I’m not going anywhere.”

Kato pulled her even closer to him, his eyes growing serious. “I never want you to go anywhere. Thea…you’re my home.”

Thea stared into his brown eyes, momentarily mute. She almost didn’t know what to say. Her heartbeat quickened in her chest, and she felt her palms grow sweaty. The Elder situation really got to Kato, as it got to her, and it made her chest ache with sorrow over the misery and pain he must’ve been dealing with–along with the feelings that he had that had begun to rise within him.

“Kato, I’m not going anywhere,” she reassured him, clutching his arm. “And even if the Elders do come back, I’m not going anywhere. You’ll always have me. Always.”

“Thea, I will protect you from them, I swear,” Kato said, still serious. “If they come back and so much as look at you wrong, I’ll tear each and every one of them apart.”

Thea’s eyes glistened from everything that Kato was saying. She’d never had a protector like that. She’d never had a man say that he loved her enough to lose himself in the process. And, it scared the wits out of her. But she knew that she would protect Kato, even if her fragile human body wouldn’t be able to do that much protecting. She knew that she would jump in front of a bullet for him, no matter what. Or, maybe in his case, she’d jump in front of an angry shifter that was trying to hurt him.

“So, what do we do next?” Thea asked, wanting to change the subject slightly. She giggled a bit when Kato got a mischievous look in his eye.

Before he could so much as roll on top of her, Kato’s phone rang. Groaning, Kato got up from the bed and answered it immediately when he saw that it was Hann. After talking to Hann a bit, Kato hung up the phone and started getting dressed, to Thea’s disappointment.

“Hann wants to meet up with me to talk some things over,” he told her, apologizing. “I’m sorry, but I can’t say no to my alpha.”

“No, don’t apologize,” she reassured him, knowing that he had to leave. She understood a lot about the shifter society thanks to growing up with Annie, who literally told her everything.

“I’ll be back soon, and we’ll finish where we left off,” he told her as he walked over to where she sat at the end of the bed. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her softly, making her want more and she wished he wasn’t leaving. “And, just so you know, Thea? I’m all in.”

“Yeah?” She almost couldn’t believe what he was saying. It was like all her dreams were coming true.

  “Yeah.”

“Okay, baby. I’m all in, too.”

  Chapter 12

“We have a problem,” Lukas told Kato as he walked into Hann’s office in the back of the pack’s bar. Kato tensed, his senses going on high alert as he saw Lukas’ and Hann’s grim faces.

“What’s going on?” Kato asked, closing the door behind him and sitting next to Lukas, facing Hann who sat behind his desk. He hated the way his alpha looked. The battle with Kaiser had taken a bigger toll on him than he would admit. The physical fight itself wounded Hann, yes, but the emotional turmoil he’d been in since having to bury some members of his pack ran deep. And now, seeing the once smiling alpha grim-faced and ashen, a deep sense of fear sprang through Kato’s veins.

  Something wasn’t right.

“I am very sorry about this, Kato,” Hann said, glancing up and looking into Kato’s eyes. He saw a lot of guilt and sadness there. “But it seems that there is nothing more I can do.”

“What are you talking about, Hann?” Kato asked tentatively, his mind reeling with possibility after possibility of what his alpha was talking about.

“It’s about the Elders,” Lukas filled him in, taking a deep breath. “And Thea.”

Kato felt his stomach drop. It was almost as if he couldn’t breathe–as if someone had cut off his life support and left him unable to live. He looked from Lukas to Hann, trying to stay calm as every horrible scenario played out in his head. He imagined holding Thea’s lifeless body. He imagined walking up to Thea and realizing that she didn’t even know him because the Elders had wiped her brain.

“Tell me,” Kato whispered angrily, trying to keep his rage in check. He knew that if he angrily went against Hann, his alpha would put him in his place. This wasn’t his fault, after all. But all Kato wanted to do was bash someone’s skull in.

“Michael is coming by later to fill us in on some recent developments,” Hann began to tell him. “But we might as well fill you in on what’s been going on.”

“What’s been going on?” Kato interrupted, confused and angry. “You mean there’s things that have been going on? Things that concern Thea’s safety? And you’re just now telling me this?”

“Kato, we didn’t want you or Annie to worry about anything,” Lukas interrupted, trying to get the heat off of Hann and onto him instead. “We didn’t want to say anything until we knew that things were either resolved, or when things…weren’t.”

“And are they resolved or not now?” Kato asked, though he knew the answer.

  “They’re not.”

Hann cleared his throat and leaned forward, gaining Kato and Lukas’s attention. “I meant what I said, Kato,” Hann told him. “No harm will come to Thea as long as I’m still alive. I’ll make sure of it.”

“I trust you with my life, Hann,” Kato told him, nodding and trying to remember that this was Hann–his alpha and mentor–that he was talking to. If Hann said that no harm would come, then he meant it. “I trust you with Thea’s, too. But you need to tell me what’s going on.”

“I know you remember how different those Elders that came to Thea’s house were compared to Michael,” Hann began, waiting until Kato nodded to continue. “They are the more, shall we say, old fashioned of the bunch. They believe in strict rules–and when those rules aren’t enforced or followed, they take matters into their own hands. Now, they’ve been causal enemies of the Moonlight Pack for quite a while now. Ever since I decided to mate with a human woman, they’ve kept an eye on this pack–and an eye on me, waiting for me to slip up again, so they can deem me unfit to be alpha.

“They haven’t been able to do anything yet. Until, of course, they got an anonymous tip from Kaiser about Thea. If this were any other Elder, they would’ve waited and collected resources and information before barging into Thea’s home like that. But, because they’ve been sitting and waiting for their time to enact revenge they simply didn’t care. Maybe if they did, they would’ve asked who the anonymous tip was even from. But no–it didn’t matter that the tip was from their enemy that had killed many shifters around the world.

“As you can see–their old view of the shifter world, their old ideology–has made them potentially dangerous. Now, Michael, my dear old friend and a very powerful Elder, is not like that. He believes that shifters should be able to adapt and change with time, and that if we don’t, a form of survival of the fittest will happen within our ranks. He has been trying to change the Elder point of view from the inside for quite a long time now, and he is the one we have to thank for everything that happened with keeping Thea safe, healing Annie, and welcoming Lukas into our home.

“However, the Elders that Michael punished for what they did to Thea are beginning to act out–to begin a sort of disarray among the Elders. Some Elders believe in what Michael says, while others believe in the old ways and don’t want to change. It’s, I’m sad to say, begun a bit of a civil war between the Elders.”

“How have I not heard of this at all?” Kato asked. As long as he’d known, there’d never been disagreements between Elders–at least, not this big. The Elders were like a magical group that shifters only remembered about when something
bad happened, and they came to clean up. So, he found it surprising that they so easily were able to fall apart over disagreements.

“The Elders are nothing if not secretive,” Lukas answered, crossing his legs, a dark look coming over his face.

“Exactly,” Hann nodded. “Michael has assured me that he personally will make sure that no harm comes to Thea. But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any pressure or…attempts to eliminate the problem.”

“The problem? Meaning Thea?” Kato asked, even though he really didn’t have to. He knew exactly what Hann meant.

“I’m afraid so,” Hann nodded, his face still solemn.

“And that’s not all,” Lukas interrupted.

Kato groaned. What began as the greatest night of his life was slowly turning out to be the worst. All he wanted to do was go back to Thea’s and cuddle with her in her warm bed. Instead, he was learning about all the potential ways that she could be taken away from him. Could this night get any worse?

“There’s rumors of rogues around the nation forming a sort of uprising in honor of Kaiser’s death,” Lukas told him.

Kato groaned. Yep, the night definitely could get worse.

“What do you mean, they’re forming an uprising? How is that even possible?” Kato asked him. The fact that Kaiser did it was impressive in itself–but also incredibly unrealistic. Normally, rogues either didn’t want anyone around them–like Lukas used to be–or they were incredibly violent and couldn’t have anyone around them because it would just result in murder.

“We’ve been hearing of lone wolves trying to start some shit,” Lukas told him. “So far, there’s been nothing to indicate that rogues are banding together like Kaiser’s group did. I’ve been keeping my ear out in both rogue circles and smaller packs to make sure that we know if something is coming our way.”
