For a slight second, Kato felt hopeful that maybe, just maybe, everything would be alright.
Chapter 23
Thea waited quite impatiently for Kato to show up to her house. She had been unsteady and impatient all day, and she desperately wanted to see him. She knew that she couldn’t really tell him what was wrong with her, but she did want to talk to him. To see him. She wanted him to hold her in his arms and tell her that everything was going to be okay, even if everything was truly falling apart.
Finally, when Kato walked through her bedroom door and shut it quietly behind him, she found herself running into his arms and clinging to his chest. She instantly felt warm as he brought his strong arms around her, squeezing her body to his. She inhaled his scent, which reminded her of pine trees and nature, making her feel instantly better. Just being near him had such a positive effect on her.
“Are you okay?” Kato whispered into her hair, rubbing her back in a soothing motion. She looked up at him, meeting those brown eyes and instantly falling under their spell.
“I am now,” she told him, bouncing up on her toes so that her lips could meet his.
Kato pulled her to him as she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him with all of the energy she could muster. When she pulled back and saw the expression on his face, she felt concern course through her veins.
“Are you okay?” she asked him, worried that something had happened with the pack or with the Elders. Had something new occurred?
“Yeah,” he told her, brushing off whatever was bothering him and trying to kiss her again. After a few seconds, she pulled back again, something bothering her about the way he was acting.
“Are you sure everything is okay? Is it pack drama, or something else?” she tried asking him again. “You know that you can tell me anything, right?”
“I know, baby,” he told her, walking her backwards until they both fell on the bed, Kato making sure that she fell gently in his arms. “It’s nothing, don’t worry about it. It’s just been a long day.”
Thea didn’t want to forget about it. She wanted to know what was going on and why he seemed a bit off tonight. She wanted him to trust her like she trusted him, even though she was keeping important things to herself, too. She felt like there was something new that had changed, and Kato didn’t want her to know because he thought he was protecting her. Or, nothing was going on and this was all in Thea’s head. She knew that, recently, she had been reading into everything and freaking out over a lot of different things.
But before she could question him anymore, Kato rolled on top of her gently, kissing her lips while his hands roamed over her body. He made her forget every question she had. He made her forget everything that was happening in her head, and his touch alone sent shockwaves through her body. The only thing she could think about was Kato.
Thea wanted to feel Kato’s warm skin, so she quickly tugged his plain black T-shirt over his head, her hands caressing his toned stomach and abs. Kato made his way down to her neck, kissing her the whole way as she shivered under his touch. She loved the way that he made her feel, and she found herself wanting more of him with every second that passed. She didn’t think she would ever get enough of him. She would always want more–and she loved that he made her feel excited and loved in just the simplest of ways.
“I’ve wanted you all day,” Kato murmured into her ear, making her shiver with desire and pleasure. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you. All day, I just had images of your body in my head.”
Kato began to slowly take off the short, purple nightgown that she was wearing, leaving her completely exposed and naked to him. She saw his eyes flash with need, making her smile and pull him to her in a kiss. His hands began exploring her body, as if they had never touched or caressed her before. She giggled in delight as he made her feel like she had never been touched in this way before. When they were together, it was like everything was new and special, and she loved that they found each other irresistible every time they saw each other.
She helped Kato get his jeans off, her heart pounding in her chest as her desire grew and grew as he touched every part of her skin. She found herself blushing when she discovered how hard he was, even though it delighted every ounce of her being. Kato leaned down to kiss her, letting her feel how hard he was as his erection pushed into her thigh, making her heart beat with a new form of energy.
Kato’s hands were still roaming as he kissed her, leaving her skin tingling with warmth in every area that he touched. When his hands became more comfortable and started exploring lower and lower on her body, she gasped with pleasure into his mouth as he kissed her. She moaned as he massaged her lower half, making her gasp with pleasure as he continued. Her desire was flaring up, and she couldn’t stop the way her body was reacting to his touch. She never wanted his hands to leave her, and she wished that she could feel this pleasure from him always.
“You make me crazy,” she murmured into his ear, smiling when she saw the grin full of desire spread across his face. She knew that both of their eyes were hazy with lust, and she knew that her night would be full of pleasure, just like it was the first time she was with Kato. He made her feel things she never had before, and she wanted–no, needed–more.
Gone were the thoughts of the Elders. She no longer had the images of death or blood in her mind like she had earlier. Now, she only thought of Kato and the way that he was making her feel. She thought of the way he was making her crazy from just his hands, and she knew that she would feel pleased like she never had before. She craved him, and she found herself crying out for him as he massaged her lower body with his hands more and more.
A bit greedily, she reached for his own hard desire for her, taking off his underwear quickly and gently caressing him with her hands. His own moan was music to her ears as she blissfully touched him, making him stop massaging her because his own body was experiencing full pleasure.
“I need you,” she moaned to him, regretting the way his hands left her.
In an instant, right after Kato quickly put on the condom she handed him, she found her stomach on the mattress now instead of her back. Grinning with desire, she felt herself get up on her knees and hands, ready for Kato to please her. When he entered in one strong, fluid motion, she moaned in pleasure.
He picked up speed, making her back arch in satisfaction as he thrust into her. Their position made her feel pleasure she hadn’t before, even last time she had sex with Kato. She couldn’t stop the pleased sounds she was making, and she loved the strong grip that Kato had on her hips.
Kato quickly but gently turned her around again so that her back was on the mattress beneath him. He entered her again, making her body rise slightly from the force. She found herself loving it, though.
“More,” she moaned as she clutched to his back, biting his shoulder slightly in arousal.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he panted, repeating himself from the first time they had sex. This time, all she had to do was look him in the eyes for him to pick up speed, making her body shake with pleasure from his thrusts.
Too soon, Thea felt her body explode from pleasure, her body wracking with satisfaction as she clutched Kato’s body to her. He followed soon after, his own moan being blocked slightly from where he was kissing her skin. She loved the way he shivered as he released, and she continued to hold him even after they both were done.
She was in his lap now, both of them still entwined in every way. She pushed his brown hair out of his eyes, loving the way they looked drowsy and satisfied from what they had just done. She kissed him softly, gently, at first, making him clutch her back to try and bring her closer to him, even though they were as close as could be. She loved the way they stayed tangled together, both of them not wanting to separate from each other in any way.
Finally, their exhaustion hit them and they both fell onto their sides in bed, untangling themselves slightly. Kato pulled her b
ody to him, resting his head on her stomach and instantly falling asleep. She smiled down at him, her heart full of love, as she played with his hair and listened to his snoring.
And then, because Kato wasn’t pleasing her or distracting her anymore, her mind went back to her nightmares and thoughts of leaving. She glanced down at Kato, who was clutching her body as he slept, and she continued to play with his hair, even though she had tears in her eyes.
Because she just realized, as she held the man that she loved, that this could be one of the last times that she ever held him like this. And a part of her broke inside.
Chapter 24
“What are you two doing here?” Kato asked the two shifters that had just stepped into the clearing. Britta and Grant, two shifters of the pack, walked over to where Kato stood in the clearing. The morning sun light illuminated the two shifter’s serious faces, and Kato felt his heart start thumping in his chest. Did something bad happen?
“We just met with Michael, the Elder,” Britta told him, crossing her arms over her chest and staring at Kato. It almost looked like she was trying to decipher his emotions. “He was with Hann, telling him about all the uprisings and stuff that the rogues have been doing. Hann told us that you would probably be here, training in preparation for what might happen.”
“I didn’t think it would get this bad,” Grant said, shaking his head in disbelief. “When Hann told us a few days ago all about what was happening, I thought that the Elders would figure this out. But now they’re fighting within their own ranks?”
Kato sighed. It looked like Hann had informed the whole pack about what was happening, though it seemed like he had left out some of the key information surrounding Thea.
“We wanted to come and see if we could train with you,” Britta added.
“Some of us, like myself, don’t need any extra training, but I thought that I would join, just in case,” Grant quickly added.
“Oh, shut it, Grant,” Britta sneered at him. “I can kick your ass with my eyes closed.”
“Okay, okay,” Kato held up his hands to cut them off, a smirk on his face. Britta and Grant always got into it, and it was a known thing that they both had a bit of a crush on each other. Everyone knew it–except Grant and Britta, of course. “You guys can stay and train with me, if you want. Annie and Lukas will be here soon to train as well.”
Kato walked into the clearing a little more, but stopped when he noticed that Britta and Grant weren’t following him. He turned around to see them staring at him still, questions in their eyes.
“Something on your mind?” Kato asked them as he walked back over to where they both stood.
“We may have heard that Hann has some people watching Annie’s house,” Britta began.
“And also watching her human friend. Thea, I think?” Grant ended, questions surrounding the three.
Kato stared at both of them, trying to judge their expressions and figure out what, exactly, they were hinting at.
“Alright, hit me with your questions,” Kato told them, sighing as he realized that they wouldn’t let him be until they figured out everything.
“Does she know about shifters?” Grant asked.
“Is it true that the Elders visited when Kaiser was here and were going to take her away?” Britta followed.
“What exactly does she know? And what doesn’t she know?” Grant asked again, quickly after Britta.
After listening to them both spew questions about who Thea was and what she knew, he finally put up a hand and decided to answer the questions they had. After carefully considering what exactly he should tell them, Kato finally came to the conclusion that he should just be honest with them. He’d known Britta and Grant since they were kids, and if they were going to have his back, he needed to know now.
Plus, he knew that more and more shifters would want to know about Thea. Might as well tell Britta and Grant and have them spread the truth, rather than rumors.
So, Kato launched into his and Thea’s story, telling them how he loved her and was going to make her his mate, if she wanted to be, once he became alpha. He told them how he’d thought long and hard about this decision, and it took him a while to realize that he was stronger as an alpha with Thea versus without her.
As he told them everything, he was surprised by the reaction on their faces. They were surprised, yes, but they weren’t disgusted or angry. Kato thought Grant, at the very least, would have something negative to say or interrupt with. Nothing came from them until Kato was done telling them everything.
“Alright, well, at least now we know,” Britta said lightly. “Makes sense as to why Hann is so adamant about protecting her–though he does view her as a daughter, too.”
“Okay, let’s get to training then,” Grant said, clapping his hands together.
“Hold on,” Kato said, shaking his head in disbelief. “That’s it? No telling me that this is wrong and that humans are weak? No saying I’m dumb and humans can’t be trusted?”
“Kato,” Britta told him lightly, smiling. “You’re going to be our alpha. But before that, you’re our friend. I don’t trust a lot of people, even shifters in our pack, but I trust you. And I will follow you, as a friend and as an alpha, wherever you go.”
“You’ve always been by my side,” Grant told him, hitting his back lightly. “Even when I was a complete dick and said some things that I shouldn’t have. You put me in my place, but you always told me that I could change and be better. And I’d like to think I’m better than I used to be–and I’d like to think it’s because of you.”
“We’ll always have your back, Kato,” Britta added. “And now, we’ll always have Thea’s back.”
“I don’t know what to say,” Kato said honestly. He definitely expected something different.
“How about you just help us train,” Grant told him, smiling as they pulled him into the clearing.
Out of all the shifters in the pack, he never expected these two to be the first ones he told about Thea. He also never thought they would be the first shifters to come and say that they wanted to train and prepare with him. He was beyond ecstatic, though. Grant and Britta were some of the strongest shifters around.
As the three shifted into their wolf forms, Kato began to think that things really would end up okay. As long as he had Thea and his pack, it would be alright.
Chapter 25
Thea found herself alone, again, with only her thoughts. She began to play out different situations in her head, trying to find a way out of this whole mess. A way to keep everyone she loved safe and alive.
Since Thea was thinking to herself as she poured a cup of coffee in her kitchen, she almost didn’t notice Annie sitting at the kitchen island table. Thea jumped slightly, her full cup of coffee sloshing as she turned around to see Annie staring at her.
“Are you okay?” Annie asked her, concern in her eyes.
“Yeah, why?” Thea asked, setting her cup of coffee down and grabbing a few napkins to clean up the spilled coffee on the tile floor.
“Because I was talking to you for about a minute before you turned around and looked shocked to see me,” Annie told her, the concern growing even more as she stared at Thea.
Thea sighed and quickly tied her hair up on her head, feeling the heat under Annie’s intense stare. She really didn’t want to be having this conversation right now, because she knew that she would spill everything to her best friend. And she didn’t want to do that–she didn’t want to worry her more than she already was. She wanted to protect her. And there was only one way she could do that.
“I just…,” Thea wandered off, thinking of what she could say to throw Annie off the real reason Thea was out of it. She then thought of how weird Kato was acting last night, and her curiosity took over. “I’ve been noticing that Kato’s been a bit stressed recently.”
“Oh?” Annie asked, and Thea immediately could tell that she wa
s trying to hide something.
“I asked him if there was any news regarding the Elders and he wouldn’t say,” Thea began. “He also wouldn’t even talk about pack gossip, which I thought was odd. It’s like he doesn’t want me anywhere involved with the pack or his life.”
“It’s not that, Thea,” Annie sighed, and Thea could tell she was wrestling with whether she should spill everything or not. Thea decided to press her to see what was really going on.
“Then what is it?” Thea asked, sliding onto the kitchen island seat next to Annie with her coffee in hand. Thea’s curiosity had completely overtaken her now, and she wanted to find out what was really going on with the Elders and the pack.
“Okay, if I tell you, you can’t tell anyone else I spilled,” Annie began, opening up to Thea. Thea managed to hold back the grin that she wanted to share. Finally, she was going to get some answers. When Thea nodded, Annie began to tell her all about the Elders and the rogues that had been trying to form an uprising across the world.
When Annie told her that the Elders were about to enter a full out civil war, Thea didn’t know what to do or say. She knew that some Elders were upset about not being able to take her and fix the problem that she was, but she didn’t think that it would turn out to be this big of a deal. She was just one mere human–surely there were bigger issues to deal with?
Thea then realized that they would come for her. It wasn’t just a little possibility. This was something that would happen. It was almost like it was now set in stone for Thea. If the Elders were so split on the issue of what to do with her, they would probably end up coming for her, especially if the Elders that wanted her gone won the argument.
“I wouldn’t worry though, Thea,” Annie told her after confessing about everything that was going on with the pack. About everything that Kato wouldn’t tell her. “My father has everything under control. You know he won’t let anything happen to you.”
