“Grandfather suggested you send Cain and Abel, they have extensive experience in start-ups like this,” Hawke reminded him.

Silas nodded. “Yes, they do. They helped me.” He would talk to Jasmine, get her opinion on what to do here.

“La Patron?” Lucian said as he walked toward Silas and Hawke. No longer did he appear like the unsure man afraid to hear his sister had committed a crime. There were still traces of grief, which was to be expected, but Lucian’s entire countenance was different. He stood taller, straighter, with confidence as he approached with his hand extended.

Silas took and held it for a few seconds.

“Thank you. I would not have been able to do what was necessary. The Goddess explained a lot of things to me, now I understand why you had to handle the matter, everything in fact, the way you did. I and every pack member in this country are grateful for your assistance.”

Silas nodded and released his hand. He wasn’t able to read Lucian which meant the Goddess’ seal was upon him.

“If I can intrude on your graciousness a little longer. There are a lot of things I’d like to discuss with you, Angus and Hawke.” He looked around. “Where’s Angus?”

“Searching for the three Red Wolves who used the explosives on the humans.” Silas made no apologies for not seeking permission.

  Lucian’s brow rose. “Cleaning up?”

Silas nodded. “It’s the last bit of it.”

“Once again thank you. There are many things I must do, the Goddess asked me to spend your remaining time training with you. I hope you don’t mind.”

Silas’ hope of leaving tonight fizzled beneath the smile he offered Lucian. “Yes of course. We will assist as best we can.”

Lucian took a deep breath, closed his eyes and shook his head. “I never dreamed of this day. Grandfather said I wouldn’t be a runt forever, that I was destined...” He looked at Silas. “I’m rambling when we should discuss territories, rules and order. Please, come with me, the Alphas are in the office waiting.”

“Did he say Grandfather?” Hawke asked Silas.

“Yes, he did. That wily old man spread his seed far and wide,” Silas said as they re-entered the house. Solo, Pedro, Hector, Tonio and Jose, stood when they entered and offered a toast. Silas took a glass and joined the toast to the new Alpha of Honduras.

The planning session was intense. They assigned territories, with Hector remaining Alpha over his pack, and Solo taking over the area surrounding the Capital. Duke would take over for Ricardo.

Silas mentioned buying land, schools, hospitals, stores, a solid infrastructure for pack. He mentioned they could be designed as private, for family members only to keep out humans. They all agreed on the idea but understood the challenges in such a poor country.

“Make an offer on a thousand acres before I leave, then hire pack members only to clear portions of the land for those buildings. There will be enough money for salaries and supplies,” Silas said after agreeing to Lucian’s long-term loan specifics.

“What about theft?” Pedro asked. “Humans will try to steal our supplies.”

“What if we send a few Knights to work on security and train your best men as security?” Silas offered thinking of a few who spoke Spanish and would blend in well.

“That would be great,” Lucian said. “Now to find qualified professionals to work in the hospital and schools.”

“Education is the backbone of any pack. Teach pups the rules when they’re young and it’ll solve most of your disciplinary problems in the future. Plus, our mission is to live amongst humans without revealing our true nature. Which means pack must be literate, and educated to compete for the best jobs in every arena of life. You want pack on the police force, in government, military, owning stores, developing businesses so that you have a solid voice to live in peace.”

“That makes much sense,” Solo said. “I’ve never given much thought to school but now I think to focus attention there. Maybe I’ll take some online classes, learn more to help.”

Silas nodded his agreement. “Once the building is in place, we can work out a trade. I’ll send some teachers here and you’ll send your applicants to us for training. We can rotate them in and out until your schools are fully staffed. We’ll do the same for the hospitals. I’ll send a team to make sure the medical center is correctly set up for pack.” He eyed Lucian. “You must pay them. Include salaries your professionals can live on in your budget. They can either buy a home on pack lands or in town. You want the money to circulate within pack businesses first. I will help you with that.”

“Gracias. Gracias, your generosity... it’s unbelievable,” Lucian said. The other Alphas murmured their agreement.

“The Goddess has blessed us, and who knows, maybe it was to be able to help other packs. Rebuilding your pack won’t be easy, but we’ll help in any way we can,” Silas said.

Hours later, Silas called for a break and walked outside to take a breath of air.

“It’s done,” Angus said as Hawke and Silas were returning to the planning session.

“It’s been almost four hours what took so long?” Hawke asked.

“They left an interesting trail into the mountains, but I found them. No one else will, though.” He sounded satisfied.

“We’re at Lucian’s, the new Alpha could use your expertise,” Silas said.

  “On my way,” Angus said.

  CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

JASMINE STEPPED INTO the living room and faced her children. They’d arrived a few minutes earlier for lunch and to spend time with Silas who arrived home around 4:30 that morning. He’d been exhausted but happy to be home. After a few hours of rest, she woke with a hungry wolf between her legs. Now they both needed to rest.

When the new Alpha had been chosen, she and Silas thought he would leave Honduras early. But after listening to Silas, sitting in on a couple planning meetings and speaking to two of the Alphas mates regarding setting up a network of women, she understood why he needed every second of those seven days. Her heart melded with the courageous Honduran pack who had a long way to go. But she was glad to have him home.

“He’s in the shower and will be out in a bit. Go set the table and put out the food,” she instructed hoping no one would comment on the love marks on her arms or neck. No such luck.

Renée and Jackie pulled her aside smiling. “What time did Daddy get home?” Renée asked. “Thought he was tired.”

“Not that tired,” Jackie said smiling.

“Never that tired.” Jasmine winked and walked off. Behind her the girls laughed.

Adam and his mate Bella were the last to arrive. Jasmine liked the lovely girl and thought she suited her head strong son perfectly. Adam followed Bella like a love-sick puppy, something that surprised all of them.

“Bella, Quinn, have Renée show you where things are in the kitchen,” Jasmine said including her expanded family. This lunch would just be the kids, their mates and kids. Tonight, she planned a larger meal with the Knights, and everyone else. For now, she wanted to spend time with just her kids, so they could all thank God and the Goddess for Silas’ safe return.

Quinn had just taken the rolls out the oven and placed them on the table when Silas entered the living area dressed in black jogging pants and a short sleeved gray tee.

He smiled at everyone. Jasmine could’ve warned him, maybe she should have but didn’t. He needed to understand before he left the next time. And with everything on his plate, she was certain there would be a next time.

Renée ran and jumped into his arms holding him so tight around his neck, crying, before David peeled her off so the others could greet him.

“I’m okay, Princess. I’m fine.” He looked at Jasmine who dabbed away the moisture from her eyes.

Jackie looked him over, her eyes filling with tears before she hugged him tight around the waist. “Daddy, I was so scared,” she whispered holding him tight. Quinn walked over placed his arm around her shoulders and shook S
ilas’ hand.

“We were worried. Thank the Goddess you’re alright,” he said.

Silas clasped Quinn’s shoulder. “Thank you for taking care of her.” He nodded toward Jackie.

“She is my heart, I cannot live without her,” Quinn said simply and moved Jackie aside.

In a rare show of emotional distress, David wrapped his arms around Silas and held on tight for several moments. It was such a shock, no one moved or interrupted as Silas stroked David’s back and murmured words of comfort. Jasmine could see it shook Silas. Of all the kids, David normally remained unaffected by most things.

David backed off and stood next to Jasmine, reaching for her hand. She took his, offering comfort until he stopped shaking. Adam introduced his mate. Bella hugged Silas and wiped the tears from her eyes as Adam stepped close and hugged Silas tight for several seconds. His shoulders shook as he cried unashamedly over the close call they all received when hearing Silas had been involved in an explosion.

Silas met her gaze and she could tell it finally hit him how they’d suffered over the news of his possible demise. He hugged Adam and Bella close for a few moments, whispering words of encouragement. Tyrese, Danielle and their pups stood to the side watching, with wet eyes.

Rose and Tyrone stood back, wiping tears and holding their pups until it was their turn. Jasmine wondered when Cameron and Lilly would arrive, they should’ve been here by now.

Danielle lost it and openly wept against Silas’ shoulder. Tyrese took several deep breaths to keep from breaking down. He held onto Silas a little longer and stepped back with his head down.

Rose walked forward with her arms outstretched and tears rolling down her face. “Padre, you scared me. I’m so happy you’re here, alive and well. Bless the Goddess,” she sobbed on his chest.

Silas met Jasmine’s gaze again as he held Rose who worked as his personal assistant. The two were very close. Tyrone and their boys waited a few seconds more before they hugged and kissed Silas. Tyrone dabbed the tears from his eyes as he stepped back, saying how grateful he was to see his father and Alpha again.

Unable to speak around the thick ball of emotion in his throat, Silas extended his hand to Jasmine. She released David and took his hand. He kissed the back of hers and then kissed her softly.

“You kept this from me, I had no idea.”

“At the time, you didn't need to know, now you do. Angus had to promise he would take care of the those who set off the explosives to keep the kids from flying over and handling that matter themselves.”

“Angus did take care of them.”

“Good.” She paused. “Don’t ever forget this, how we feel. How much you mean to us and how your health and well-being impacts our lives.” She shook his hand. “To the table everyone.”

He pulled her back. “I love you so much I can’t express it. If I’d known all of this, I’m not sure... I don’t know what to do with it.”

“Accept it. Accept we love you and just as you’d give your life for family, family will drop everything to be here for you. You mean the world to us, never forget that,” she stressed.

He read the truth in her eyes and thought of his near brush with death, the new mission and the days he spent sharing ideas and implementing a new pack structure with Lucian in Honduras. Everything had been interconnected, even his homecoming. Often, he spoke of the meaning of pack and how they looked after each other, but never gave much thought to his den being a pack. Not until today. With the Goddess’ reminding him of his initial instructions to take this continent, he would need the support of his den and national pack more than before.

“Thank you, Sweet Bitch,” he whispered as he brushed a kiss against her lips. “You’re right as always. Let’s go, our family’s waiting for us.”

Her smile lit her face as they walked hand in hand into their future.
