Daughter of Riches Page 58

by Janet Tanner

‘Not yet. I probably will one day. Do you mind that?’

Sophia shook her head. ‘My dear, I trust Dan completely. As I did his father. He knew I hadn’t killed Louis, I’m sure he did. But he went along with my wishes. I’m sure your Dan will do the same.’

Juliet nodded. In spite of a very unpromising start she was sure of it too.

‘Did you ever sort out the Langlois mystery?’ Phil Gould asked Dan Deffains.

Dan smiled. ‘ Oh, I sorted it out all right.’

  ‘And what was the answer?’

Dan Deffains, newly married and back in the island police force, tapped the side of his nose and laughed.

‘Now, Phil, I’m sure you know better than to expect me to share family secrets,’ he said. ‘Come on, man. I’ll buy you a pint. But better make it a quick one. I have a home to go to!’
