Until you became a husband and a father. This was the pinnacle of the perfect existence, and it was everything that was fulfilling about life. “Darling, that’s the most amazing thing I’ve heard all day.” He chucked Brady on the chin. “Did you hear that, son? You’re going to be a big brother.” The child didn’t understand the words, but the emotions were contagious, and he squealed in delight as they all embraced, even Joan, who suddenly didn’t seem to care how famous Jake was.
Yes, he couldn’t imagine things any other way and couldn’t believe it had taken this long to find his little piece of paradise.
Sadie, too, was ready to start the next chapter, and as she thought about it, this really was like a storybook. Her life had gone from plain to perfect in a matter of less than a year, and the whirlwind had left her in a daze of happiness. Regardless of anything else that happened from this point forward, she didn’t think there was anything else she could ask for. There would be bumps in the road because you couldn’t avoid every catastrophe, but they would be tempered by the fact that she’d found her place in the world. Clinging to the arm of a man she’d almost rejected due to her own ridiculous notions, holding a child she’d grown to love as her own, and carrying another inside her as her best friend walked by her side, Sadie said a silent thank you to fate. This was going to be a good life.
