Speechless, at first, Sylvia quickly regained her composure. “What do you think you’re doing? Who are these men? I’ve never seen them before in my life.”
Pulling a small tape recorder from his pocket, Brendan pressed the play button.
The blood drained from Sylvia’s face as the two men revealed the entire kidnapping plot.
“You really are a stupid woman, Sylvia,” Brendan said as he dropped the recorder back into his pocket. “Now, unless you want this tape delivered to the police, you will pack your bags and move to your house in Florida. And, you can forget about James Parfumes. We warned you what would happen if you tried anything stupid. Gray Enterprises is buying up all available stock. At the moment, we own forty-five percent.”
“That’s not enough for a majority,” Sylvia whined.
Brendan smiled. “Not alone. But, according to what I’ve learned, Moira’s grandfather and the other three senior chemists you fired when you assumed control own ten percent of the shares. Somehow, I don’t think it will take much to either acquire their shares outright or convince them to vote with us.”
“You son of a bitch,” Sylvia spit.
Brendan grinned. “You have no idea.” Spinning on his heel, he walked out the door.
