Her breath stopped, her heart stopped, the only thing that bloomed was her love for him and the fountain of pleasure gushing through her, warming her blood, searing her insides, branding the heart that belonged to him.
He didn’t let their bodies part when he rolled away to save her from taking his weight now that he was spent. Satisfied, and probably exhausted, he’d been strong throughout this and held it together for her. Now he could relax.
In the Kindred motel, they’d shared a room with Raven and Zara, now they were alone for the first time since they’d been in Sikorski’s mansion where she’d awoken in such a panic about breaking the rules.
But there was nothing to panic about now. So when he stroked her hair and kissed her head, she closed her eyes because she was allowed to sleep. This was her new haven and she was with her man. There was no safer place.
TWENTY-SIX
At breakfast time, Tuck took her from their bedroom. Every minute that she spent in this house intrigued her more and she was eager to explore. If Kadie had to pick a guide, she’d select Zara because being the newest arrival, she’d have looked on it with fresh eyes most recently, and from a woman’s perspective too.
He took her into a large kitchen that she was still scrutinizing when Zara put a mug of coffee in her hand. Raven was at the island eating bacon and eggs, so Tuck rounded to sit by his friend while Zara went to dish out food for him and put a plate down for her too.
“Sleep well?” Zara asked, inviting Kadie to sit with an open hand.
“Yes,” Kadie said, going where she was put. “This house is incredible.”
“I know,” Zara said, drinking her own coffee. “I think these guys take it for granted.”
Tuck did move through the house without paying much heed to how wonderful it was, so she guessed Brodie was the same. “How was your night?” Kadie asked, because it was polite and she had noticed the charged glance Brodie and Zara shared.
“Great,” Zara said and Brodie nodded, putting his cutlery down to sit straighter. “We made a decision.”
“Oh yeah?” Tuck asked, digging into his food. “You set a date?”
“No, we’re taking a break,” Zara said.
Tuck stopped eating. “From each other?” he asked.
Zara made a face like that was a ridiculous and unfunny joke. “No, a break from the missions… Not a forever break, but, yeah, a break.”
“Finally taking that vacation?” Tuck asked, examining them both.
Zara grinned. “Yes. We just figure that, well, Kindred work is never-ending. There will always be someone trying to catch up with us, or someone that we’re after. Leatt will wait, Caine is off our tail, so yeah, it seems like the right time.”
The right time, Kadie had just got here and now the other Kindred couple was leaving. “It’s about time,” Tuck said. “I think it’s a great idea. Gives me time to settle Kade in too.”
Settle her in, did that mean some kind of training? Either they’d have a lot of sex or fight constantly, maybe both. “You guys have to stay here,” Zara said. “Look after the place for us. It’s your home too. You don’t have a girl to go anywhere for, now she’s here with us.” Zara bowed to squeeze Kadie’s hand.
“I hope I haven’t scared you away,” Kadie said. “If it’s inappropriate for me to be here—”
“No!” Zara exclaimed and got off her stool to come over and put an arm around Kadie. “The mission’s not over. It’s just on pause.”
So the Kindred that she knew were taking a break, giving her time to get up to speed and learn her man again. Tuck left his stool and came over to cup her face and direct their mouths together. “Buckle up, baby, your adventure’s just beginning.”
Fitting in would take work, it would take time, but being in the embrace of the man she loved bolstered her. Joining the Kindred was right, wherever Tuck was based was her home. This was a new beginning, a stronger foundation, and nothing would tear them apart again.
