Make-Believe Marriage Page 9

by Pamela M. Kelley

“We’re going to have a big wedding in about a month or so and we’re going to have the reception at River’s End Ranch, with all of our friends and family. We can’t wait! Of course you, and Simon and everyone here is invited.”

Mrs. Crosby had cried when they gave her the news Monday morning, and then cried again when they told her she’d be attending the wedding this time instead of doing the cooking.

Blake on the other hand, had been disappointed when she returned his call, but he rebounded quickly and told her it was probably for the best anyway as it looked like he was leaning toward taking one of the network jobs, so he wouldn’t be in Riston long-term.

Blake was actually in the restaurant that night but not playing trivia. He was sitting at the bar with a few friends, watching baseball on the big screen television. During the trivia half-time break, he came over to the table and offered his congratulations. While he was lifting his glass to toast them, Sierra appeared by their side and asked what they were celebrating.

“Turns out Cameron and Ethan have decided to stay married!”

“Oh, wow. Well, congratulations, then.” She lifted her glass as well and Cameron admired her smooth recovery from the initial shock. Clearly she’d hoped to see more of Ethan after their month was up.

Sierra was looking at Blake as if she was trying to place him, and Cameron realized that they didn’t know each other.

  “Sierra this is Blake Connors.”

  “The baseball player?” she asked.

“Former baseball player,” he said with a grin. “And you’re an actress, right? On that new show that’s filming here?”

  “Yes, have you seen it?”

“It’s fantastic. Can I buy you a drink? There’s an open seat by me at the bar.”

“Lead the way,” she said happily.

Cameron watched them go and thought that they really seemed perfect together. She glanced at Jaclyn and she nodded in approval.

“The fairies told me about this match just this morning. They’re working overtime lately.”

Cameron lifted her wine glass and tapped it against Jaclyn’s mug of root beer. “To the fairies!”

Two hours later, after coming in first place after acing the final question, Cameron and Ethan were home and snuggling together on the sofa.

“This is bliss,” she said happily.

Ethan kissed her cheek and then laughed when she pulled him in for a real kiss.

“At least you don’t 'eww' me anymore,” he teased her.

“I’m really sorry about that,” she teased him back. “But, I was eight years old. I had a lot to learn.”

“Well, you learned very well, Mrs. White.”

She laughed. “I’m not used to that yet, but I have to admit I like the sound of it, and calling you husband, too. I do love you Ethan. So much.”

“I love you, too. Forever and always…”

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed Cameron and Ethan’s story. It was inspired by a true life romance where a couple married at first sight and she felt no attraction to her new husband at all. But that attraction grew as she fell in love with him. They’re now happily married several years later with their first baby.
