Jack Hammer: A Blue Collar Alpha Romance Page 10

My hands drop to my sides. “What is it, Jack?”

“Well, you know that barn I keep talking about building on my property?” He rubs his scruffy jaw before sliding a hand into his tool-belt. “I’m thinking now might be the time to get started on it. Thought it might make a good venue for a wedding reception.”

My heart pounds in my ears. “A wedding reception?”

“That’s right.” He nods, pulling a little black box out of his pocket. “Our wedding reception. I know I’m asking you sooner than most people do it, but nothing about us has ever been like other people. I knew the first week I met you that I wanted to be with you, Zo. And I’m only ten thousand times more certain now. So, what do you say? Will you marry me, Zoe Austin?”

With tears in my eyes, there’s only one thing I can say. “Yes, Jack. There’s nothing I want more.”

My heart swells from happiness, from a rightness in my gut. Jack reaches out to me with that lusty look in his eyes, and I have a feeling we’re going to add another public location to our very long list of places to fuck. But before I can lift my shirt over my head, a door flings open and Harper storms into the room with tears in her eyes.

“What’s wrong, Harper?” I rush to my friend’s side and throw an arm around her shoulder. I’ve never seen her this upset. She’s usually laughing and tossing jokes around. Whatever has her this worked up can’t be anything close to good.

“It’s Noah Hall.” She points a finger at Jack. “Your little brother is driving me fucking crazy. His stupid jokes have gone too far. So, you know what? No more playing nice. It’s war.”

I’m a long haul trucker with a full load.

I f*ck who I want. When I want. And I always leave them begging for more. I roll into town, take the best piece of ass I can find, and then move on before the sun rolls into the morning clouds.

But not Lucy, the sunshine of a girl who works at the truck stop diner off Exit 276. She’s too sweet and too fragile for a bad boy like me to screw over. My past is mine to bear alone.

Except one look at those gorgeous green eyes, and I’m toast. Hell, I’m only a f*cking man. And a man can’t resist what he wants no matter how hard he tries.

  LUCY

I had big dreams for my life, but they flew right out the window when I used all my college savings to bail my brother out of an awful mess.

So, now I work in the grimy truck stop diner every night, serving up greasy food to leering men. It’s the only way to get by.

There’s one trucker I don’t mind so much though. Mysterious, rugged, dangerous. He’s the hottest man I’ve ever seen, and he looks like he likes to f*ck hard.

  Turns out he does.

Now I’ve had his baby. Too bad he’s disappeared without a trace. Even though I try to hate him, I can’t get him off my mind. I want him to come back and be a father to our child. But that’s not the only thing I want.

I want to give him my heart.
