Scandalous Twists (Entangled Love: Seduced Into Forbidden Passion Book 2) Page 30

by Boadi, Lilly

Relaxing his whole body on the couch, Alex sunk into deep thought. Now and then, his nostrils flared, and his forehead crinkled in anger “Haida, what are you hiding from me?” he said, as he thought about why she labeled Holmes to his father. He has been thinking about this for the past six hours, since he left Haida’s. Then he thought about the nice things Michael had said about her ex, and he fumed; he couldn’t take that – why should it be him who she claims she was done with, and not him who was her boyfriend? He felt cheated and abused, and it surprised him that he felt this intense jealousy. He swept his hands on his face and was apt. He reached immediately to the mini bar and poured himself a glass of white wine. He gulped down the beverage intermittently, anger forming up in his heart. Then, suddenly, he hurled the glass onto the wall and it gave an irritating sound as it speckled little pieces on the floor.

“What was that?!” asked Mellis, bumping into the hall immediately. He looked and saw little pieces of glass, sprinkled on the floor, and then he turned to Alex, who stood, fuming heavily. “Alex? What’s wrong?” he whispered,

  “Everything’s wrong!” snapped Alex

“It’s about Haida, isn’t it?” asked Mellis and Alex didn’t respond; only that he fumed more “What did she do this time…?”

“Don’t talk to me about her!” Alex burst and then paused. Then fuming still, he flung away.

Mellis sighed and stood akimbo, pursing his lips in thought. For a moment, he thought about the possibility of Alex finding out about Haida and him; or perhaps, about Osborn and her. Both situations could have undoubtedly triggered his brother’s anger and upset. He wanted to find out if both situations were real, but then, he didn’t know exactly how to go about it. Besides, he thought Alex would put it straight to him if the former was the case. So, whatever could get him upset at the moment, he knew, could possibly be inaction on Haida’s part. If that was so, then it could only mean she didn’t really love his brother enough. Upon this thought, Mellis felt angry with Haida. She had no right hurting his brother this way also for he didn’t deserve that from her. He thought it was enough that she hurt him and that it was ruthless of her to hurt his little brother also.Yet, he also knew he couldn’t do much about it, for he knew the upset he felt towards Haida was more personal than it was about Alex. So inwardly, he tried to let go hoping the two lovers resolved their issues and had the best out of their relationship….

  EPILOGUE

It was a quarter to nine in the morning, and not knowing exactly when Mellis would come around – yet believing it would be early afternoon – Haida thought of how she was going to disappear from the house till, perhaps, late in the evening when she believed Mellis would have long left the house. But then, what reasonable excuse could she give without the vicar suspecting any foul play on her part? Perfect! She had talked of doing her hair for the New Year. She would go to town at noon for that purpose. If the salon staff was competent enough to finish earlier, she would pass Kiara’s to while away time. Couple of hours later, she was set to take off. She wheeled outside the gate, and the gateman closed it behind her. Just then, a cute Jaguar broke before her, blocking her way. Mellis stepped out of the car and walked towards her. ‘Good heavens!’ she thought, as she sat steadily without blinking an eye, clutching the wheels with her hands.

“Are you going somewhere?” asked Mellis when he reached her. She realized his tone was unpleasant.

“As you can see!” she snapped without looking at him

“We need to talk!” he nearly snapped

“About what?!” she snapped once more

“My brother!” this time, he actually snapped

She glanced at him in surprise, took her time to put off the ignition, and then stepped out of the car slowly. Slamming the door, she leaned on the car and folded her arms “What about Alex?!”

“Why are you hurting my brother?!” he burst and she scoffed.

“Where’s that coming from? What do you know about Alex and me?!” she retorted

“He tells me everything! Look, if you don’t love him, that is your problem, but for goodness’ sake stop hurting him!”

“What makes you think I don’t love Alex, huh?!”

“Oh, you do? Then can you explain to me why you are keeping your relationship with him a secret from your family?!” he shouted

“If you think I’m keeping our relationship a secret from my family because I don’t love him, then you are far mistaken! It’s just the other way round! Because you know what? Alex is such a gentleman, and I cherish him so much so that I don’t want to entertain any idea from anyone that I’m going out with him whiles I’m still with you, because he doesn’t deserve that!” she whispered sarcastically.

“I want my family to accept him fully and wholeheartedly when I introduce him to them. It’s only unfortunate that they grew to like you so much, making me need some time to get rid of that like they have for you, and give every bit of it to Alex, even more! It’s only untoward that, like me, they blindly fell for your hypocritical self! But I bet you, sooner, I’m going to open their eyes for them to see the disgusting truth about you!” she raged, and he stared quietly into her eyes which was full of despise.

“It’s simply like this” she said, lowering her voice “I love Alex and respect him so much that I don’t want him to be beside me as my sweetheart, when my people might be thinking I’m still seeing you, and worse, that I still adore you!” she sardonically clasped her hands to her chest. “How would that sound like anyway? That Alex is nothing more than just my playing object because you are the one I love?” and she scoffed in derision.

“I’d have to convince them I could never adore a bastard like you, at least, not anymore, that is if they thought I ever did! Alex is really an angel, and I love and respect him too much to give them the chance to think low of him, regarding how much he means to me, because he means everything to me – everything else that you weren’t!” she sneered.

“Is that why you didn’t care flirting with Osborn for the whole world to see even when you were with me, because you didn’t love and respect me that much?!” he retorted.

“You get it right! How do you think I could really give my love to a moron like you?! An angel like Alex is the one who deserves my love, and I’m extremely glad he isn’t like you in anyway!” she burst into his face.

Mellis was hurt though, but he was giggling wryly. “At least he has my height and my eyes…lot of people tell me that…” and she scoffed. Then he got serious “How could you be such a hypocrite?!” he whispered and she chuckled.

“You really thought I was so stupid and naïve that I could never have seen your pretense, huh? We were both acting like slippery snakes, right? So what’s the big deal?”

“You just said you blindly fell for my hypocritical self…!”

“Yes, but that was just at the beginning. And the second time I saw you, I knew who you really were!”

“Are you saying all that we had was a pretense and a complete sham?” asked Mellis, truly hurt.

“They meant nothing to me!” she said sarcastically

Then, suddenly, before she could say ‘jerk’, he had her full mouth in his. His kiss was so hard that she felt uncomfortable, and then put up a struggle. She wriggled away and smacked him hard on the cheek. He felt the pain, as he touched his cheek with his hand. Both stood, breathing heavily. “Tell me you felt nothing in that kiss!” he said, looking mean.

“Oh yes I felt something. You know what? Disgust! It was so disgusting!” she screamed, wiping her lips contemptibly with her palm. “You disgust me!” she cut through his heart with those words, and then sat in her car. She drove through the garden into the street, and then sped off impetuously. Mellis gazed after the car, fuming uncontrollably. This girl really drives him crazy!

Haida didn’t know why she said all that to Mellis, but one thing she realized was that she was still angry with him. She started sobbing. But why was she still hurt, even after knowing a
ll the cynical acts of Kelly? Was it simply a gesture of being unforgiving? If it were so, why then was it taking her so long to forgive and forget? Maybe it was because, to her, he had not shown any proper form of penitence. Upon several thoughts, she realized she must only be angry with herself for trusting a jerk like him! Oh, why did her first relationship have to be this sour? She had taken the care not to fall into the hands of the wrong man, or so she thought, but it seemed that care wasn’t enough. This made her feel disappointed in herself. She was so distraught at the moment. So, instead of the salon, she passed Kiara’s end first….
