She frowned. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to cause any trouble.”

I waved my hand through the air. “Ain’t no thing. You’re fine with me. I like having you around.”

“Yeah?” she asked, pressing her small breasts against me.

  “Yeah.”

“I still think you should take care of your son,” she said, pulling away suddenly.

“Chill your roll,” I said, staring into her eyes.

  “I’m just saying…”

“I know what you’re saying,” I interrupted. “And it ain’t even like that. I take care of my son.”

“Not if I’m living with you. I’m messing it all up,” she said, frowning.

“What? You been smoking all day? You’re not making any sense.”

She sighed and stormed out of the room. Her mood swings were one of the reasons she was so fascinating to me, but it got tired with a quickness. When I walked into the living room, I saw the front door close. Damn. She left. I didn’t chase after her. Instead, I went to the couch and packed a bowl. A lot of decisions needed to be made in my life, and I wanted to think a bit.

  Charity

I looked across the kitchen table at Gina, who looked exactly the same as she had a week earlier. I’d told her about the attempted attack and Snake saving me. After an hour of whining and begging, I’d finally admitted to sleeping with him. Her eyes opened wide and her mouth hung open as she stared at me as if it were so improbable for me to have a man.

  “Was it huge?”

  “What?”

“His dick!” she yelled then smiled like a crazy woman.

“It was pretty big,” I admitted, trying to hide my pride. “But it was more than that. He’s actually a really smart guy. How else you think someone can survive the drug game so long?”

“He’s rich, too, ain’t he?” she asked then sipped her coffee.

  “I guess.”

“And you just stormed out of the house on him?”

I nodded my head, the realization that I might have made a mistake finally hitting me. “I fucked up, didn’t I?”

“Well, if he have any sense at all, he’s not going to make a big deal out of it. You’re a catch, Charity.”

  “Thanks,” I said without enthusiasm.

“I mean it. Besides. You really want to be in a relationship with a drug dealer?”

  “I don’t know. He’s a good guy.”

“If you feel that way, you gotta get back and talk to him before he dumps your ass.”

  “You think he would?”

She nodded her head. I frowned, sighed, and stood up.

“Call me and let me know if I need a new roommate or not,” she said.

“I will. Thanks, Gina. You’re a good friend.”

I walked back to his apartment while lost in my thoughts. Will he want to take me back? While I hadn’t said anything when I left, he wasn’t the type of man that messed around. And with all his power and his looks, he probably had no trouble getting any woman he wanted. At least anyone from the hood. When I got to his house, I still wasn’t sure of what to say to him.

After I knocked on the door twice, loudly, I stepped back and waited. Part of me wanted to take off and move out of the neighborhood, but I couldn’t afford to do that even if I really wanted to get away. Like so many others, I was trapped. The door opened. He looked up and down the street then motioned me in with a nod of his head. The air inside was thick with smoke. I turned around as he shut the door.

“I’m sorry I ran out like that…” I said, letting my voice trail off.

“Ain’t no thing,” he said, still studying my face. “You back to stay?”

Oh, thank God! “If you’ll have me.”

He nodded. “I have to go somewhere tonight. A new shipment is coming in.”

“Have you ever thought about quitting?” I asked. “I mean, haven’t you made a lot of money.”

“Millions,” he said simply, carefully judging my reaction.

The range of numbers attached to his wealth was surprising to me in a way, but it made sense. He’d been in the drug game for over a dozen years. During that time, he’d worked his way to the top of the ranks and was making fat bank week after week like clockwork.

  “Isn’t that enough for you?”

“You can’t ever have too much,” he said. “It’s a cruel world out there, and money helps.”

  “It doesn’t buy everything.”

“No, but it comes damn close. Don’t you want to be rich?”

“Yeah, sure, but I also don’t want to lose you.”

  He smirked. “You so sweet.”

  “I’m being serious,” I insisted. “I love you … I think.”

  “You think, huh?” He laughed.

A moment later, he had his strong arms wrapped around me. My body was so tiny compared to his. I loved when he hugged me.

“So, I can stay here?” I asked, pulling back to look up at his face.

  “Yeah.”

He was a man of few words, but the ones he did utter were powerful on many different levels. I wished he could stay with me and fuck me hard, but I didn’t say anything about him leaving. If he was going to be understanding about me having a fit earlier in the afternoon, I didn’t want to push my luck. The L-Bomb had slipped out of my mouth, but he was close to being put on my list of lovers.

  Snake

When I left my apartment, I had to put my armor on. A quick prayer to God the Father in Heaven, and I was set to take on the day. As Ice Cube sang, I hoped it would be a good day. The new shipment coming in was the biggest one I’d ever taken in. If anything went wrong, I would be out of a shit load of money. And I hated losing money – even a dollar of it. My boy deserved as much as I could make.

Tony pulled up in the Escalade, and I got in. I’d sent him a coded text with where we would be going. After receiving it, he’d tossed the burners. Fucking phones cost me piles of money every week, but they were worth it. I’d been looking into other ways to communicate with smart phones – hiding messages in image files posted to Twitter and shit. I always had to be a step ahead of the law and the competition.

I usually didn’t talk to the troops, but I decided to give the top two dozen a speech to let them know their asses were on the line. By running a tight ship, I’d been able to evade any problems for over a decade. I wasn’t about to ruin my record so close to breaking through to the next level. In another six months, I’d double my orders again if I kept growing at the same pace. Life was good.

As the Escalade hit the freeway and we headed to the Flats downtown, I thought about Charity. She was so different than all the other women I’d been with in my life, which was a fucking lot. I’d practiced safe sex no matter how hot the bitch, and I had no kids and no funky shit growing on my dick because of it. Both facts pleased me greatly. I was definitely about to become a king of the streets.

The problem with being so close to the top is that there’s always niggas below you all about taking you out no matter what. Even if you doing a good job and making them rich as fuck, some of them are going to try to cut you down. I’d spotted a few bad apples in my crew. While I hated to employ violence, it was necessary to run a drug operation post 9/11.

I was ready to take care of the problem once and for all. The bitch niggas would be exiled just like Clarence. He was trying his hardest to secure a powerbase amongst the people, but he was an asshole with no sense of class or style. Most everyone hated him with a passion, which I could use to my advantage. Once I took his boys in my crew down, word would spread.

A phone rang. I looked over at Tony. He rummaged through his jacket pockets, pulling out three burners. When he finally found the one ringing, he answered it with his eyes on the road in front of us. I listened carefully, hoping we didn’t run into any problems before I took care of the rat bastards in my crew. The look on his face told me it was not good news.

  “Aight, man. Th
anks,” he said then disconnected the call.

  “Problem?” I asked.

“Little Tee ain’t show up at the meeting spot. They saying he talking shit in the projects.”

“Take me to him,” I said simply.

Tony got off at the next exit and headed toward the Central neighborhood just east of downtown Cleveland. I tensed up as we drove toward the public housing unit where his grandma lived. The plan to beat him down in front of everyone for not obeying orders wasn’t a smart one, but I didn’t have a choice. If I sent someone else, Clarence would be able to use that against me.

When it came to enemies, I never took chances. I went all Machiavelli on niggas, taking lessons from the Art of War. In other words, I didn’t fuck around. Anyone who defied my power had to be beat down and stripped of any ability to pose a threat. Some of the decisions I’d made in the past still haunted my dreams and waking hours, but I told myself it was for my son.

As soon as the SUV stopped at the corner of the housing projects, I saw lookouts bolt to the central common area to announce my arrival. I had to act quickly if I didn’t want to chase the little mother fucker around the city all day. Tony hopped out of the car with me. We made our way in between two of the buildings. Little Tee looked right at us, but for some reason he didn’t run away.

What ain’t right? I asked myself as I looked around, trying to figure out what was wrong. When I reached him sitting on a couch in middle of the yards, he smiled at me. I raised my hand and pulled it back, ready to release the power of my bicep guns on his silly, mother-fucking head. Before I could throw the punch, he pointed behind me.

I turned around and saw four police officers creeping up with tasers drawn. Mother fucker, I thought. When I looked back at Little Tee, he was running in the opposite direction. I looked at Tony and nodded, not having to say a word. With a yell he rushed toward the officers while I ran away from them. I wanted to go back to the Caddy, but that would be a dumb move.

Instead, I pushed hard and headed out of the projects and down an alley. I didn’t hear anyone behind me, but I didn’t dare stop and turn around. My powerful legs propelled me down the alley. At the end of it, I stopped and looked around. A police car rolled by a cross street a block away, but I didn’t see anyone on foot. I booked across the street and down the next alley.

About three houses down, I reached up and grabbed the roof of one of a garage. With a grunt, I pulled myself up. A minute later, I was lying on my back. My chest rose and fell quickly as my heart pounded inside my chest. All the while, I listened for anyone yelling. After a few seconds, I pulled out my phone and tapped the police scanner app to see if I could gather any intel on the situation.

From what I could tell, they had no idea who I was and no interest in chasing me down. Still, I chilled on the garage roof for a few minutes before getting down and walking toward downtown to get a cab. If I was lucky, they left Tony alone and he was in the Caddy on his way to get me. With all the other problems cropping up in my life, I didn’t want to count on that happening.

Once I got a cab, I threw him a couple hundred dollar bills over the seat to take me home. All I wanted to do was talk to Charity, let her know what had happened. In the past, I’d never shared my thoughts or feeling with women. None of them. Not even Tanika or my moms. The little white woman was so strange and exotic to me. While it wasn’t as taboo as it was fifty years ago, people still looked at us.

“Thanks, man,” I said when the cab pulled up at the crib. “Keep the change.”

  “Thank you.”

I nodded my head then got out of the car. Before walking up to my porch, I looked up and down the street, hoping to see Tony and my Escalade. It wasn’t in my name, but I’d be out tens of thousands of dollars if it was taken away. I didn’t have any drugs or guns in it, so as long as Tony had stuck to the rules, we’d be okay. Not seeing him, I sighed and went inside.

Charity rushed over as soon as I walked in. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

Damn, that girl can read my mind, I thought. “Nothing,” I lied.

“Bullshit, Snake. I know that look. Did Tony wreck the Cadillac?”

“No, but I think I lost it today.”

“What happened?” She put her arm around my waist.

“I don’t want to talk about it right now,” I said.

  “Later?”

  “Maybe. I got work first.”

She sighed. “I thought you were home for the night.”

“I ain’t talking about that kind of work. I need to lay low for a bit.”

“Oh…” she said, looking up at me with those big, brown eyes of hers. “What work do you have to do?”

  “Some expert sexual work.”

I lifted her up. She gasped in delight as I carried her into the bedroom. After sleeping together every night for a week, I was getting to know her body and she had been all over mine. Even better, our minds connected when we fucked. It was unlike anything I’d experienced before, and I’d been with a lot of fucking women of the years – some real freaks between the sheets.

When I reached my bedroom, I laid her gently on the bed. She watched as I slowly stripped off my clothes. Her gaze didn’t move off my cock as soon as it was out. I wondered sometimes if it was the only reason she liked me. Once I was completely naked, I leaned over and kissed her roughly on the mouth while my hands grabbed one of her small titties. They were perfect to me.

I helped her get out of her clothes, which didn’t take long. As soon as she was naked, I positioned her on the edge of the bed with her feet dangling over. Once in place, I got down on my knees in front of her. I stroked my cock with my right hand as I covered her inner thighs with wet, sloppy kisses. She moaned as I got closer to my goal, that tight, wet pussy of hers.

As my thick lips kissed her delicate folds, she lifted her legs up on my broad shoulders. Her pussy opened up as my flat tongue licked the entire length of her slit. After a few more strokes of my cock, I stood up and positioned the tip at her entrance. Slowly, I pushed just the tip in, causing her to squeal with delight. With a grunt, I pushed another few inches into her tight, willing hole.

Her pussy folded around my hard cock as I slid in and out. She wrapped her legs around my waist, using them to pull me even deeper into her with each thrust. The adrenaline of running from the cops had left my body, but I was excited and breathing heavy again. This time it was for all the right reasons. I studied her beautiful, white face as I fucked her body with my mind as well as my cock.

  “Snake,” she gasped.

  “Yeah, baby?”

  “Fuck me,” she pleaded.

With a smile, I increased my speed, pumping in and out of her quickly. I loved her personality and her sense of ethics, but none of that mattered as I expertly fucked her with my massive pleasure tool. She screamed out in pleasure as her pussy tightened around me. I fucked her hard, fast and without protection. Her breathing increased as she moaned.

“You like that, baby?” I asked. “That feel good?”

“Fuck yes,” she said. “Fuck me!”

I am, I am, I thought, slowing my strokes slightly before pulling out all the way.

  “Turn around,” I said.

She obeyed, bending over the edge of the bed. I slipped into her wet pussy from behind. That is so fucking tight, I thought as I built up my rhythm again. The stress of work, my baby mama, and my moms all slipped from my mind as I fucked the small, blond white woman. Just looking down at her face turned me on. I wanted to fuck her all night long.

The thought of doing her until dawn pushed me over the edge. With a grunt and a final push into her, I came, my nut rushing out and filling her. She moaned as I squeezed her ass cheeks. When my body finally stopped shaking, I pulled out of her and collapsed onto the mattress. As I laid next to her on my back, reality came rushing back to me. Unlike a lot of women I’d been with, I didn’t want her to leave.

“That was amazing,” she said, resting her head on my chest.
/>   I ran my fingers through her hair. “Damn straight. A new record, I’d say.”

“I don’t think it’s going to be our best, though.”

“I hope not,” I said then chuckled.

As we enjoyed the afterglow, joy ran through my body. I had problems in my life – more than ninety-nine of them – but if I had someone I could really love, none of that other shit mattered.

“I was worried about you tonight,” she said quietly.

  “Yeah?”

“Yeah. Don’t you have enough money to quit? We can leave this place and go live somewhere.”

“You got it all planned out, don’t you?”

“I’m being serious, Snake. You have to get out of the game.”

  “Or what?”

“Or I’m going to leave. I can’t leave like this…”

“Bitch, you ain’t gonna leave me,” I said snidely.

As soon as the B word left my mouth, I regretted it. I’d never called her that before. While I knew a lot of bitches, Charity wasn’t one of them. She sat up and got out of bed. I stared at her naked body then up at her face, trying to gauge if she was really upset or not.

  “Where you going?” I asked.

“I told you. I’m fucking leaving.”

She turned and left. I stayed in bed, trying to seriously think about what she’d said about quitting the game. I’d thought about it many times before. I had an endgame in mind – a master plan to retire and take care of my boy. Still, having a fine ass woman in my life would be nice. I sighed, knowing I was approaching a crossroads in my life.

  Charity

I moved back in with Gina, who was happy to have me. My job at the pizza joint was still available because I worked so hard for the owners. The money was nothing like what Snake had thrown at me when we were together, but I would manage to scratch out a life for myself somehow. I’d always told myself I would never date a drug dealer, and I didn’t want to start.

Gina couldn’t believe I’d left him at first. She wasn’t too smart, but I loved her. About a week after I left Snake, we were in the kitchen sitting at the table and talking. We both had a mug of coffee in front of us. Mine had a few nips of rum to warm me up. Cleveland nights could be cold as fuck – especially with a broken heart.
