The Blind Seer (Isolde Saga Book 3) Page 8

by Robert D. Jones

As it ran down her throat she felt the life return to her bones and muscles. Her shoulder spasmed, and she pulled back her furs to see the thick, slug-like veins begin to pulse and retreat, leaving only her pink skin and a small scar behind. She felt her weariness being washed away from within and a renewed sense of strength washed over her.

"You had a swim in it?" Ama asked Harald.

Isolde looked up and noticed he looked brighter too, and both his eyes were open. She nearly choked as she realised.

"Is that why I can see again?" he asked.

"Yes," Ama answered with a sly smile, "and I suppose the goddess wanted you to see her beauty with both eyes."

Harald went to speak but Ama hushed him with a finger over her lips.

"Ama," Skaldi's voice silenced the room, "could I speak to you outside?"

The old woman nodded and the two retreated to the garden. Isolde took the chance to look at Harald and as their eyes met, Snorri cleared his throat and pulled Thodin out the front to leave the two alone.

"I am sorry for who I have been," Isolde said when the room was empty. "I didn't see it until now... I have been so childish."

"It's okay," Harald replied, but Isolde knew that it wasn't.

"Thank you," she said, "for everything you have done. If it weren't for you I would be dead or worse."

  Harald smiled at her.

"I would do it all again," he said as his eyes locked onto her's.

She took his hand and felt his fingers twitch before tightening over hers. He pulled her in and kissed her softly on the neck. She felt warmth flow down into her chest and squeezed him tighter.

"Until the end?" she asked under her breath.

"Until the very end," he agreed.

Skaldi had announced that they were forced to leave at once. And just as he said it, he was out the door and hiking toward the stone steps that led out of Ama's world. The others followed behind him, but Isolde felt a pang of sadness to leave Ama so soon.

As Isolde stood in the door, she turned and put her hand on the crooked shoulder of the old woman.

"Thank you," she said. "I will see you again."

Ama smiled at her and Isolde thought it was the purest and most honest thing she had ever seen.

"If not in this world," the old woman declared, "then I hope we do in the next."

Isolde stepped out the door, the day was bright, and the westerly wind blew lightly in off the salty sea and she could taste the brine on her tongue. Skaldi and the dwarves were making their way up the stone steps, and Harald had stopped to wait for her under the shade of the old gnarled trees. She felt full in her heart, they were one step closer to finishing the witch, one step closer to freedom. Only Heroth Nuir awaited them now, Heroth Nuir - the netherworld - the Land of the Gods.

  THANKS FOR READING

Reviews mean everything to me and I would so greatly appreciate it if you left me one on Amazon.

By leaving a review, you add social proof to my book and basically say to everyone else that you enjoyed it.

This lets me focus less on marketing and more on writing!

But I understand you might not want to and that's okay.

  On average only 1 out of every 100 readers leave reviews and I think that is because either;

  1. They don't care,

  2. They didn't know how important it is for the author, or,

  3. They don't know what to write.

Honestly, all you have to do is click the link below and write something short. Even a one liner like, "this book was good..." helps so much in the long term and goes a long way to establishing me as a full-time writer.
