Deadly Past (Deadly Series Book 3) Page 23

by K. L. Humphreys

  “How are you feeling?”

“Stir crazy,” Morgan tells her, and the girls laugh, I, however, don’t find anything funny at all.

“I really do feel as though I’d recuperate better at home.” her face falls at the word home.

The room goes silent, and I don’t want to have the conversation about moving in together when there are other people present.

“You’ll stay at Dad’s for a while. Let me talk to the doctor and see if we have a date for you to come home.”

I get up and see the beautiful smile on her face, she mouths ‘I love you’ to me, as I walk out of the room.

  Epilogue

  Morgan

It’s been six weeks since I was shot. I was able to leave the hospital after a week, which Luke believes was too short of a stay. He knows that I’m fine, but he thinks I would have been better if I stayed longer. Today we’re moving into our new house. It took a lot of persuading, but I finally agreed that moving into a house we own made sense. I have a bit of savings that I was saving for a vacation, but I told Luke that he could have it as part of the down payment. He wouldn’t take it.

I broke down the day I came home from the hospital. I knew it was bound to happen, I just didn’t think it would be so soon. I don’t know why I thought it wouldn’t, but it took me by surprise. Thankfully Luke was there and managed to soothe me, and he just held me until I finished crying.

I have to go to mandatory counseling which Luke thinks is a fantastic idea, I haven’t said much about that day other than to retell my story to the police. I did what I had to, what else is there to tell? I killed someone, and it was horrible.

I apologized to Sophia for killing her sister. Sophia told me that I shouldn’t be, that Alex wasn’t her sister. That her real family wasn’t that cruel. We found out that Alex was mentally ill like I thought. Looks as though she was off her medication for a while as the cops found loads of full prescriptions.

The last six weeks have been crazy. Everyone found out that Sophia is pregnant with twins, something I completely forgot to tell Luke. She has planned her gender reveal to coincide with our house warming tomorrow, so everyone is excited, especially George and Liam. We’re all taking bets on what the names are going to be. Winter and I think that if they have a girl that they will call her Lydia after her Mom and if they have a boy they’ll call him Connor. None of them disagreed with us, but Luke did tell me that he thinks that they could throw a curve ball and call their daughter Winter.

Skye made it back from London two weeks ago, having been gone for a month, she met her sister on the flight over and took vacation time to spend more time with her while she was over there. They seemed to have had an amazing time catching up. They hadn’t seen each other in over six years.

Skye also came home with a secret, one that she hasn’t told anyone yet, except for Sabine and me. I think she wanted to tell someone who was impartial. I haven’t told Luke, it’s not my place to say. Skye said to us that she doesn’t want to tell Ryder because she doesn’t want him to reject her yet again and Sabine and l think that once she does, he’ll change his mind about not being with her. Although she says that she doesn’t want him to be with her because of it. I wholeheartedly agree with her, I’d be the same way if I were pregnant too.

Hailey is still living with Eric, but she is moving out and moving into my old rental now that it has been completely renovated. She and her sister have made amends, and Maddie is currently in drug rehabilitation. Hailey is happy because as soon as Maddie finishes up rehab, she’ll be moving in with her, something that Sophia and Winter have come to terms with and agreed that if she has changed and cleaned up her act that they can be at least civil towards her.

The same can’t be said for Sam and Nathan, they hate her for the way she treated their women, and there is no way in hell they’ll forgive her.

Scott has been on his best behavior. Luke told me that he hasn’t been with a woman since before Soph’s wedding. He’s trying his best to show Hailey who he really is, and I can say that it is working; she has forgiven him and is ready to test the waters once she is free from Eric.

My Dad and Fiona have been formally charged with the murder of my mom. Their sentencing dates are yet to be set. But I can finally say that Mom would be proud that I got her the justice that she deserves as they both pled guilty to capital murder.

Sabine and Dwayne have been really happy together, in fact, they went away on vacation. They went to Maui and spent time with Winter and Sam. Luke and I made an impromptu visit because when Sabine called me and told me that she and Dwayne were getting married, I told her that if I weren’t there, I would never speak to her again.

Funny enough, she told Dwayne the same thing, and Dwayne booked Luke and me on the first flight out.

The last box has finally been emptied and packed away. Our house feels like our home. I’m finally settled into a real home. Sabine and Dwayne are the first ones here, and they both look blissfully happy, and that is something that I have wanted for her from the beginning.

“So, Mom is on the warpath,” Sabine tells me with a wicked smile.

“The one thing she wanted was for you to be married. And here you are blissfully so. So Agnishika hates that she missed it hmm?” I feel bad for her mom, she just wants Sabine to be happy.

“Yes, and thank God I didn’t tell her, she would have taken over everything. I couldn’t handle that, Moy. I just couldn’t have it. I did it the way I wanted, and that was having you there. Of course, the small intimate ceremony was a second best.” She’s starting to get upset.

“Why don’t you tell your mom that you’ll have a party, which she can organize, that you just turn up to? That way you’re not organizing it, and she’ll be happy.” I say hoping that I don’t get a call from Agnishika, I don’t want a pissed of mom on the warpath taking it out on me.

“That is a perfect idea! I love you, Moy.” She tells me, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

“I love you too Sim.” I hug her squeezing her tightly.

Not long after that, everyone else arrives including Winter and Sam, who were also at the wedding. Soph and Nathan are smiling brightly, and I know that they can’t wait to do the gender reveal. So, they are both holding a balloon, the balloons have either blue or pink in them. They’ll pop them, and the colors will reveal what they are having.

“Okay, on the count of three you pop the balloons,” Winter says and we all count.

“1, 2, 3!” We all shout and the balloons pop and pink confetti flies everywhere. Sophia and Winter start squealing. Luke, Scott, and Nathan all groan.

“You better get your guns stocked up,” Ryder says, and we all laugh except Nathan.

“They’re not allowed out until they’re at least thirty,” Nathan says, and he’s deadly serious.

“Have you picked any names yet?” Steven asked, and he looks the happiest out of everybody.

“Yes Dad, we have. Lydia Louise and Winter Skye.” Sophia tells him, and I really like the names. Everyone goes and gives the happy couple hugs and congratulations.

Everyone has finally gone, and I’m getting into bed. As I lay down the canvas on the wall catches my eye. It says ‘Sometimes in life, you have to weather the storm. And when you do, there is always sunshine.’ It’s a quote by Randy Jones, and it is so perfect.

“You were right baby. We weathered the storm, and now we’re in the sunshine.” Luke tells me, and I can’t help but smile at how apt it is. I love that he put that quote above our bed.
