She turned away but Anthony extended his hand. Vince was anxious for them to leave so he hurriedly shook it, still refusing to look him in the eye.
“Pleasure to meet you, Vince. Have a good evening.”
“Yeah, man. See you around.” He let go as quickly as he could, but when he pulled away, a business card was in his hand. He frowned and couldn’t stop himself from flicking a glance at the man as he was turning to walk away with Kaia. Anthony’s eyes locked on him and he gave him a brief head nod before leaving.
Vince turned his attention to the card. He stared at it in confusion, words suddenly appearing as if they’d been waiting to be read just by him. ‘Come to the Club. All Supernaturals Welcome.’ The words faded away and were replaced by an address.
Huh. Nifty trick, but a little creepy. It was actually a nice gesture, but a wasted effort because Vince didn’t mix with supers. He knew he wasn’t one of them even if others got confused and thought he was. He put the card in his back pocket so he could throw it away later, though he couldn’t help watching Anthony and Kaia as they sat together in the café. For as downright unnerving as Anthony was, he and Kaia looked comfortable together. Vince wondered if he’d ever find a woman that could look past his confusing hybrid, half shifter health issues and love him for just being a good man.
Thinking about that made his mood drop, so he forced himself to turn away from the happy couple and get back to work.

Mastering Darkness
A Forest of Darkness Novel #1
Anthony is hanging on to his humanity by his fingertips. A slip in his usual control during a gruesome task uncomfortably reminds him that the feel of his unbridled Master Vampire power is exhilarating… and freeing. But letting the cool creep of that wild, powerful energy overtake everything human about him would destroy any semblance of the life he’d built for himself, not to mention the lives of all those he protects.
A flirtatious chance meeting with a beautiful human shocks his heart into remembering sensations he thought he’d long lost the ability to experience. Oblivious to the supernatural world existing in the shadows all around her, Kaia has secrets of her own, though, like why she’s the only human living at Wild Woods, home to Anthony’s bitter foe.
As responsibilities keep Anthony tied to a life of duty and violence, time spent with Kaia gives him hope that he hasn’t yet become the monster he sees in the mirror. But is her love for real, or just a ploy to push him all the way into darkness?
