A Reckless Night Page 12

“I did not know that until a week later. I left the library with Myra and the nanny and you came by to pick them up.” He smirked and added, “Best day of my life.”

“What? I didn’t pick them up from the library in recent times.” She couldn’t remember a day she let Myra go to the library without her. She always went with her so she could read her favorite books to her daughter.

“I have a picture of you from that day.” He laughed shaking his head and she remembered the day he was referring to. She had stayed home that day working on an issue that had started at six in the morning. She was in her PJs all morning and had gone to pick up Myra and the nanny looking like crap.

“You saw me in my PJs and didn’t run in the opposite direction?” she mocked annoyed at his laughter.

“Do you have any idea how much fun it is to be part of someone’s fantasy and making it a reality, especially the woman who knows how to blow my mind?”

“Okay, stop.” Varsha took a deep breath looking at him, overwhelmed by what he did to find her.

  “Did I say something wrong?”

“No…I’m just…this is very foreign to me.”

  “What is?”

“You…the way you are with me, the things you say to me and the more and more you tell me about what you did…I just can’t believe it to be real.”

“Can I put you down for a second peanut? I got to go take care of mommy,” he said placing Myra back on the floor.

He got off the floor and gave her his hand. She slipped her fingers into his and let him pull her up into his arms. He planted a kiss on her forehead. “Can we talk in the kitchen while I make your Chai?”

She followed him to the kitchen, his hand guiding her along in silence. He stopped at the kitchen island and turned around to put his palms on her waist. He picked her up in one swoop and sat her on the kitchen island. She let out a surprised giggle and put her palms on his shoulder.

“Do you feel my hands on you?”

“Yes,” she smiled looking into his eyes.

He leaned closer to her taking her palm to his chest. “Can you feel my heart beating?”

  “Yes.”

“Everything I say and everything I feel for you is as real.”

  “I know…but I need a lot of getting used to…your ways.”

He laughed bringing his warm lips to her quivering ones. She ran her fingers into his hair pulling him closer as he spread her out to bring his hardness to her throbbing epicenter.

She gasped against his lips when he dug further into her mound with his throbbing thickness. He slipped his tongue past her lips sucking the air out of her lungs. Her eyes rolled shut, her lips quivered, her heart threatened to crack a rib, her stomach drummed a parade, her skin tingled, her body shuddered with pleasure, her nipples pebbled for his touch, and her darkest spot pooled with hot desire for the man that was setting her entirety ablaze with just a kiss.

She felt like a virgin who was being kissed and touched for the very first time, every time he kissed her. His actions spoke way louder than his deep words, and she couldn’t get enough of it. She had dreamed of the attention, she had fantasized about surrendering and being at her lover’s mercy, and realized she still had hope for all her dreams to come true.

She wrapped her arms tighter around his neck and moaned deep inside. He groaned reaching for her breast and let go of her lips to take them to her neck. She arched, opening up for him while she sat on the island in the kitchen.

“You’ll need to wait till I put Myra down for her nap,” he whispered nipping on her skin.

She mumbled unable to speak coherently as he swirled the tip of his tongue on her collarbone.

“Sweetheart…” he urged pulling back to look into her lusty eyes. “We will pick up where we left off soon.”

She planted a kiss on his cheek and teased, “Did I hear you say you were going to fix breakfast for us?”

“No, you did not, but I would love to make you breakfast since I haven’t made your Chai.”

“Best offer I’ve had all morning and only you can top that,” she repeated what he had said to her earlier that morning.

“Yes, I can.” He leaned forward to take a quick bite of her breast over her robe making her squeal in surprise.

  “Kris, you are very different.”

“Is that a good thing?” he asked opening the fridge to grab eggs and spinach.

“Yes…but I don’t know what to expect from this,” she shrugged.

“Do you like hanging out with me?”

  “Yes.”

“Did you have fun last night?”

“Yes.” She blushed inadvertently when he came back to stand by the kitchen island.

“Do you think I am an asshole?”

  “No…well I don’t know,” she teased.

“Fine, you can tell me how you feel about us in a few weeks. If you tell me I am asshole, then I will leave you alone,” he declared laughing.

“No, don’t…” she pleaded. “I want to...”

  “You want to?” he prompted.

“I—I want you. I want to be with you,” she said looking into his eyes.

“Me too, and why is it so hard for you to tell me that?” he asked walking towards her.

“For the longest time I thought I was in a loving relationship only to realize he didn’t even care about me as a person let alone as a wife.” She wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her cheek on his shoulder as he stood next to the kitchen island.

“Whoever this moron was, he is making me look very cool,” he chuckled running his palm on her back.

  “It’s not funny, Kris!!”

“I know it’s not, and I don’t want you to think about what happened and let it cloud your thoughts.” He planted a kiss in her hair.

  “Okay…I’m hungry now.”

“Spinach omelet with toast coming right up,” he declared stepping away from her.

  Chapter Twelve

“When did you start with the pill?” he asked kissing her bare shoulder as he caressed her body with his chest to her back. She lay in his arms steadying her breath and her heart. She enjoyed their spontaneous tryst, something she had never experienced but had always longed for.

She turned around to face him and took her lips to his. “Why do you ask? You can still wear a condom if you like.”

“Are you kidding me? I am not doing that. I remember you demanding for protection that night.”

“I went on the pill right after we met.” She laughed.

He looked at her quizzically making her smile at him. “Right after I met you.”

  “Huh?”

“I wanted to be on the pill just in case you showed up, and you didn’t have any protection on you.” She laughed.

“Good idea,” he growled grazing his teeth on her cheek.

“My period was delayed by a few weeks, and I freaked out!!”

  “What?” He almost sat up.

“Easy…it was delayed, and my doc put me on the pill to regulate my cycle.”

“Are you sure you weren’t pregnant?” Her breath caught in her throat at the disappointment in his voice. She nodded unable to speak.

He wrapped his arms around her holding her to him never wanting to let go. He took a deep breath taking in her feminine scent and something deep inside clicked. He shuddered, overwhelmed with the thought of him sowing a seed in the woman’s womb that was capable of driving him over the edge with a slight glance his way.

He had never once given a thought about what he wanted in life except for the next technology product he wanted to build. Every successful product launch had given him tremendous pride, joy, and wealth but also made him aware of a void he refused to acknowledge. It wasn’t until he met Varsha that night, he felt nothing was more important than finding her, being with her. He had felt helpless, the fear of never seeing her again made him cripplingly vulnerable so rapidly.

He smiled when he realized he wanted it all, he wanted
her and every part of her to be his.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he chuckled pulling her back to him when she tried to slide out of bed.

“I want to take a quick shower before your peanut wakes up,” she teased.

“I love the sound of ‘your peanut’, she is the cutest one ever and she is mine,” he said his skin peppering with goose bumps.

“Definitely spoiled, and you are the culprit,” she mocked.

“Very well then…while I am spoiling her, why not spoil you too?” he said nuzzling her neck.

She ran her fingers into his hair as he brought his lips to lightly touch hers. “You’ve spoiled me rotten this weekend. I had too much fun.”

Her body melded into his as he lay over her partially, his tongue tapping for entry and when she opened her lips to take in his invasion, her heart pounded mercilessly.

“I want you to take a relaxing bath and take a nap.” He murmured against her lips making her body tremble with joy and delight.

  “Myra…”

“That peanut is my fun problem to deal with,” he said rolling off the bed. He pulled up his shorts and came around to her side of the bed.

“I’m sure your muscles are aching. I prefer you not be sore tonight,” he said swooping her into his arms. She laughed enjoying being pampered and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Do I need to wait till later tonight?” she pouted.

  “Yes!!” he said laughing.

  *****

She sat on her bed leaning against the headboard reading an article about Kris’s latest success. At thirty-two, he was one of the most successful entrepreneurs in his specialized field. The term ‘eligible bachelor’ sent pangs of jealousy through her body. She looked at her phone staring at those two words and mumbled, “He’s mine.”

A shiver passed through her at the way she reacted and put her phone away and stared at the ceiling unable to rationalize her behavior. She stared aimlessly while she heard Kris’s muffled voice from Myra’s room. She drew her knees into her chest and hugged her legs burying her face between her knees. She wanted everything Kris promised to offer but she didn’t know what to expect.

“You okay, sweetheart?” She lifted her head to look at Kris walking towards her wearing linen lounge pants and a white cotton t-shirt. He sat next to her on the bed looking at her as if deciphering her expression.

She smiled weakly nodding as he reached forward to plant a kiss on her cheek.

  “Kris…What happens after tonight?”

  “What do you mean?

  “I—I don’t know…”

“Varsha…I didn’t rent the place next door, I bought it. I am here to stay.”

She looked at him as he took her feet in his palms and straightened her legs to stretch them over his thighs.

“We work for the same company, Kris. It’s not a good idea and it’s weird,” she said scrunching her nose.

“No, it’s not. Varsha works with me, and Lisa is my neighbor and my girlfriend.”

“It’s not as easy as you make it sound,” she said crossing her arms in front of her chest.

“Nothing needs to change, you and I spend time outside work,” he said leaning forward to take her palms in his.

“Are you going back to your place tonight?”

“If you want me to,” he taunted.

  “Stay, please.”

“You don’t need to ask, I wasn’t gonna go.”

“You need to go before my nanny shows up. I want this to be between us until we know how we feel about this,” she said entwining her fingers with his.

He laughed bringing his lips to hers. “I think she figured out I was up to something when I told her I was buying the place next to yours.”

  “What does she know?”

“I didn’t tell her anything,” he clarified.

“Did you have anything to do with my neighbor’s dream job and their move?”

“C’mon, you know the answer to that.”

She shook her head in disbelief. “Why?”

  “For you.”

“But why? It’s not like there’s a scarcity for women,” she asked her voice unbelievably steady the words ‘eligible bachelor’ ringing in her ears.

“Just not into anybody else anymore, just you.” He rolled onto the bed and lay on his back looking at her.

“I don’t think it’s right Kris, you need to do what you are good at. Working for a company is not a good use of your talent.”

“I’ve done enough crazy stuff and that work doesn’t excite me anymore. You do.” His voice was soft yet clear, and his eyes were intense.

“I don’t get it, how can you throw away everything that you worked for all these years?”

“My work for the longest time seemed like the sole purpose of my life but not any more. The last two months I spent following you, knowing more about you has been the best time of my life.” He smiled, his eyes showing content and satisfaction.

  “What do you mean follow?”

“I followed you almost everyday to work,” he said coolly.

“What the fudge?” her voice was barely audible.

“Wasn’t that what you wanted? I did the old school stalking, and refrained myself from cyberstalking and that made it a bit more interesting and fun.”

“How did you follow me without being noticed and what did you find out by following me?” She was shocked to find out he had done all this to make her fantasy a reality.

He laughed pulling her onto him. “I had a set of vehicles that I would use in a certain sequence so it didn’t raise any suspicions.

  “What do you mean?”

“Do you remember the biker with the cookie monster helmet?”

“Yes…shoot that was you?” She rolled to her side and looked at him as he smiled gloriously. “You are one crazy biker.”

“I enjoyed watching you play with Myra in the sand, dip your toes into the cold Pacific Ocean water and best of all, there were nights where you would come stand by your window and look down in my direction like you knew I was there looking at you.”

“Holy shit…I wasn’t imagining that then…I knew I was looking into darkness but…”

“I promised I would follow you to your gym but since you don’t go to a gym, I watched you run for miles pushing Myra’s stroller.”

  “Kris…”

“I watched you drive as you sang and danced all the way to work. I saw the woman that was completely chilled out and as soon as you got home or to work you turn into this woman who is bearing the weight of the earth on her shoulders.” She looked at him in silence unable to speak for a few moments.

“I’m done being a kid, Kris.”

“Don’t take yourself too seriously.” He ran his fingers through her hair stroking it gently.

“I want the best things for Myra, and I need to be serious and stay focused on it.”

“What do you need to do?”

“I need to be her mom and dad. Her dad has no interest in her and doesn’t care for her.” Her voice wavered.

Kris was silent but she felt his support with the way he stroked her back. “I don’t want her to feel the void in her life because her father wasn’t around when she was growing up.”

“What if I want to be part of her life?” he said taking her by surprise.

“Why? What do you mean part of her life?”

“I was in the automobile history section when Myra pulled on my headphones. I was surprised to find a kid in that section and was amazed she knew the book she wanted and knew where it was. She pulled out the book, sat on the floor, and started flipping the pages.”

“I am sure it was the automobiles in the 60’s book,” she laughed. Myra loved the book from the day she put the book in front of her. Varsha was thrilled when she realized her daughter was into cars just like her.

“Yeah, I watched her babble to herself as she flipped the pages, and it was at that point I remembered why I had wanted to write kid
s’ books in the first place. Books that allowed parents to share their interests with their kids.”

  “Why didn’t you write?”

“I got distracted, I got sucked into the fascinating world of computers,” he said shaking his head.

  “That’s not a bad thing.”

“Not entirely because I am going to leverage that and my passion for writing to build the next generation software that allows parents to create a custom book and also sell the books to other parents,” he said passionately.

  “Wow, that’s an amazing idea!!”

“Yes and guess who gave me the idea? Myra!!”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Kris. It’s your idea.”

“I know what Myra did to get me thinking on this idea, and she is my inspiration.”

“That’s very nice of you to say that,” she said feeling proud.

“Myra will receive twenty-five percent of the company’s earnings as royalties for as long as the company makes money.” His voice was steady and soft, but it felt like the words reached out and clenched her stomach.

  “What?”

“You heard me, and that’s why I want to be part of Myra’s life.”

“Why Kris? Why would you want this?

He shrugged and did not respond.

“This is so surreal. I still don’t get it as to why you want to do this,” she said overwhelmed with his ideas and plans.

“I told you I can’t explain it,” Kris said in a soft voice and added, “I can only express it.”

  “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Yes it is, and I will make it happen. Thanks to Myra, I will be giving my sister’s child a book created specially for her.”

“That is so sweet and your sister is having a girl?”

“Yes, I can’t wait to be an uncle. I’ve been asking them to move up here so I can spend more time with my niece.”

“That’s ridiculous, wouldn’t it be easier for you to move?”

“I am not going anywhere.” His eyes were intent and held hers. She looked away unable to handle the intensity of the moment.

“I don’t want you to go either, but you may decide one day that you wasted your time when you realize I have nothing to offer,” she said wrapping her arms around his neck.
