If the US military lost their surveillance advantage as well—and it’s relatively difficult to create defensive countermeasures for an orbital satellite—then any military response becomes much more difficult, especially since China would be operating in their own backyard, and America thousands of miles from home.
Finally—because I realize I’m droning on—ethnic bioweapons. Do they, or could they, really exist?
In short, yes. A 2004 report by the British Medical Association suggested that “hundreds, possibly thousands, of target sequences for ethnic specific weapons do exist. It appears that ethnic specific biological weapons may indeed become possible in the near future.”
Now, it’s very unlikely that any individual weapon would be a hundred percent accurate, since there is no 100% correlation between race and genes. But what would certainly be possible is creating a virus that preferentially targeted ethnic Chinese, as opposed to Caucasians, for example. Caucasians would still die, but at lower rates than the target population. I took a little bit of artistic license making it more accurate in fiction than it might be in real life.
But who knows what the future holds…
Anyway, as always I would love to hear from you about whether you liked the book whether that’s in the form of a review (shameless plug—if there’s one thing that will help me write the next book faster, it’s getting a gleaming five-star review on my sales page), or via email.
You can get in touch with me at [email protected]. I do my best to answer every email that comes in, and I love hearing from you guys!
Specifically, I’d love to know whether these author’s notes are worth doing. I enjoy writing them—usually when I’m floundering through a stretch of writer’s block—but I have no idea if anyone actually reads them… So if anyone has read this far, then shoot me a message to let me know I’m not shouting into the void!
Finally, if you haven’t joined already, then why not head to www.Jack-Slater.com/updates to sign up to my mailing list. I won’t be emailing you every other day, or even every other week, only when I have a new release—mainly because I’m too lazy and introverted to want to bother doing it any more frequently than that!
I’m about half way through a novella that delves into Trapp’s early days with the Central Intelligence Agency, fighting alongside his dead partner, Ryan Price. I’ll be emailing it for free to every subscriber once it’s finished and edited, but it won’t be available in the Kindle store — so the only way to get your hands on it is to sign up…
