Omega Wanted: Bad Boy Mpreg Romance Page 111

  “What’s that for?” asked Greg.

“This place is my home,” said Joe, “and also, I haven’t heard anything about Amelie in three months. I told them not to tell me, you see. It’s hard enough being, well, you know in the military, but add this and…” his voice trailed off.

“There’s nothing shameful in being a single father,” said Greg, “except you’re not, but nobody needs to know that.”

“I suppose so," said Joe. “Let’s go get our baby girl.”

It was like something out of a fairytale, holding their three month old daughter for the first time, Greg thought, spinning her around in circles in the living room of the Walsh family home.

“I know you’ll be a good dad,” said Claire Walsh, Joe’s mom. Joe’s dad was a little less excited about the whole gay thing, and he was standing a little bit awkwardly, hovering behind her shoulders.

“She’s a good girl,” said Greg, smiling. “I’d do anything for my princess.”

“That’s the spirit,” said Joe, smiling, bringing in four glasses of champagne and one bottle of milk. “To Amelie, Greg, and a family united!”

“Amelie, Greg, and a family united,” they all repeated, and downed their glasses. Greg wrinkled his nose. “That was just apple juice.”

“I know,” said Joe, running into the kitchen and bringing out another glass. “I couldn’t help but prank you.”

“I haven’t drank since last year,” said Greg, smirking, “but if you insist.” Greg took the proffered cup and drank it slowly instead of swallowing it all at once, sort of like now he was slowing down to savor life. When he was finished, he handed his glass back to Joe and started bottle feeding Amelie. Watching her little blue eyes open and close, and her hands reach towards the bottle instinctually, was melting his military, bad boy heart. It was hard to believe that this little angel was half his.

“Let’s watch the news,” said Mr. Walsh awkwardly. They all sat down.

“President Clinton signs into law the controversial ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Bill,” said the reporter. “This bill is the best thing so far to happen to gays in the military. Commanders can’t ask, and all we ask of our military men and women is to stay calm, inform yourselves on the issue, and continue acting admirably so as not to defile our country’s name.”

Greg looked over at Joe, and they locked eyes, thinking around the same thing. While it was supposed to be a step in the right direction, they knew in just a few months they would be closeted again, this time on or near the test pilot school, trying to hide their relationship, and by extension, why their daughter would eventually grow up to call them both “Dad”. At least nobody could ask questions about the nature of their relationship, and now, to make things even better, at least Joe was no longer in the service. Their world would be one fraught with uncertainty and danger, but as long as they remained true to each other and hung on to their precious baby girl, Greg was confident that they could prevail. Greg smiled and shifted into his polar bear shape on the couch to provide his lover with a backrest, and his baby with a state of the art soft fur crib. Somehow, everything would be alright with the world.
