Over the Falls (Ryder Bay Book 1) Page 24

by Jordan Ford

Water was running down his head and he swiped a hand over his crown and face. I was relieved he was getting out. I’ve been avoiding him and his crew like the plague and didn’t really want to be surfing the same waves.

Thank God Aidan hadn’t arrived yet.

Ripper is still pissed that Aidan showed up at Hatchet Cove and got in his way. But Axel hasn’t said anything. I wonder if he feels bad about what happened to me.

He caught me staring at him and stopped walking. His gaze was intense, but I couldn’t seem to break contact. I really didn’t want him coming over to talk to me.

Thankfully Shane came running down the beach to distract him. “You surfing without me? You asshole!”

Axel grinned at his friend, and I was off the hook.

For then, anyway. I don’t know if he’ll try to talk to me.

I don’t always understand Axel. He’s mean, but seems to tolerate me. I don’t know how he feels about my connection with Aidan. But I can’t care, because I’m not giving up Aidan for anything.

Dumping my stuff in the back room, I sign in for the day and am told I’ll be working checkout number five. Holding in my sigh, I take my key and change drawer, then head in that direction.

I’ve only been sitting here for about ten minutes when someone slaps a packet of gum down on the belt.

I glance up and my insides freeze.

  It’s a girl.

A pretty one, named Savannah Green.

She’s staring at me with this hard determination that’s making it impossible to move.

I have to reach for that gum. I have to scan it and tell her the price, but there’s this giant rock in my throat, so talking’s off the table.

Why I am reacting like this?

  She’s just a girl.

No she’s not, she’s Aidan’s ex! And she looks like she wants to eat you alive.

With a sharp huff, she rests her hand against the edge of the counter and abruptly says, “We need to talk.”

  TO BE CONTINUED…

Keep reading to find out what Savannah has to say in The Impact Zone.

And if you want to find out more about Harley’s “that guy,” you’re welcome to download her diary entries from when she was fourteen…or you can wait until the final book in this trilogy to learn more.

  Dear reader…

Thank you so much for reading Aidan and Harley’s story. I hope you enjoyed it, because I loved every moment of writing this book.

Harley is such a strong, independent character, and I love that about her. But I also love how Aidan challenges her. They challenge each other, and watching them grow together was so much fun. I can’t wait to see more of them in the coming novels.

  But what’s up with Savannah?

Sweet, shy Savannah who doesn’t like to make waves or cause any problems.

With her best friend in a coma and her relationship with Aidan most definitely over, Savannah is feeling completely lost.

What happened to Skylar that night?

And what is Savannah supposed to do without her best friend around?

Can she reinvent herself and figure out what she really wants?

For the first time in her life, she’s on her own, and it’s going to take the help of a south-end surfer girl and a nomad with dreadlocks for Savannah to figure out who she really is.
