Standing wordlessly at her side, Cynthy clutched her bear against herself in the crook of her elbow as she held the black rose gingerly in her two small hands. Tears welled up in her eyes and trailed slowly down her cheeks.
About the Author
I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and spent most of my first couple years of life in Puerto Rico. When I was seven we moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Shortly thereafter my family relocated to Albuquerque, where I’ve lived, with a few interruptions, happily since.
As a kid I got hooked on the notion that it had to be possible to write thrilling action-adventure stories I didn’t have to turn off my brain to enjoy. That’s what I’ve devoted my whole life to doing: writing novels and stories aimed at exciting, rather than insulting, intelligent readers.
That’s almost exclusively how I’ve made my living for more than thirty years. I’ve also been a cowboy, semipro actor, artist, bouncer, computer tech, and Albuquerque’s most popular all-night progressive-rock DJ.
But writing is my first love. I’m coming up on ninety novels published, as well as a number of short stories. Pseudonymously I’ve written dozens of novels for adventure series, including The Guardians, Deathlands (most recent: Vengeance Trail) and Outlanders (most recent: Lords of the Deep). Under my own name I’ve authored various SF and fantasy novels, including the award-winning The Cybernetic Samurai and its sequel, The Cybernetic Shogun.
Along with writing I enjoy taijiquan, birding, ferrets, guns, and riding my recumbent tadpole tricycle through Albuquerque’s scenic North Valley. I’m trying to overcome a lifelong black thumb and learn gardening. And, of course, I spend many hours indulging my lifelong passion for reading.
Currently I’m writing for Gold Eagle’s new contemporary adventure novel series, Rogue Angel; my first entry, Solomon’s Jar, came out in September 2006. My ‘‘classic’’ BattleTech story, ‘‘Callie’s Call,’’ recently appeared on the pay Web site www.BattleCorps.com.
My Web site, www.victormilan.com, offers free fiction downloads and a hopping forum. Look me up and say hi. Thanks for reading!
