Melynda lay in his arms for a long time, feeling relaxed, blissful and strengthened. She turned to face him. “Dax, I think I'd like to...”
“Anything,” he muttered dreamily against her hair. “You can do anything you want.”
“Okay then. I'd like to resign from the firm.”
“What?” Dax jolted up. “Why?”
Melynda sat up and smiled. “I think I should go back to school. Enroll as a full-time student and re-do my final year. I'm going to study Emotional magick seriously, and graduate as a first-class Emotional witch. And then, I think I'd like to be a healer, like Jasynta. But I'll be an Emotional healer. I can help trauma victims, crime victims, people who need Emotional healing. I can do so much more than...”
“...than being just a secretary in a boring law firm,” Dax finished for her.
“Yes! No, I mean...” She winced.
To her surprise, Dax laughed. “I know what you mean. Well, looks like I'm going to have to start looking for a new secretary.”
“You'll find yourself a good secretary.”
“Hmph, you're pretty hard to replace,” he mock grumbled.
“I know,” she said smugly. “No one can replace me.”
Dax shook his head. “What will I do with you?” He smiled and sighed. “What will I do without you?”
Melynda cocked her head at him. “You, Dax Ferro, will be miserable and damaged without me.” She tapped his nose lightly with a finger. “You'll think of me, and want me, and love me, every minute of your life, and you'll miss me terribly every second that you are away from me.” She sat back and folded her arms. “There! I've just cast a spell on you, Dax. Are you scared?”
His lips curved up very slowly. “Scared? Why should I be scared of the truth? I will want you and love you for the rest of my life, and I will miss you whenever we're apart. I might not see you in the office...” He sighed. “But I will be thinking of you and I will want to rush home to you at the end of each day, and be with you. I want to wake up beside you every morning, and fall asleep holding you every night. You are my mate, Melynda.”
Melynda gazed deeply into Dax's eyes and saw the truth of his words. No magick was needed between them. What they had was better and far more powerful than all the magick in the entire universe.
Melynda chewed her lower lip as she regarded him thoughtfully. “You said that there's no way to tame a Silver Wolf, and a Silver Wolf will only be willing to be a familiar to his mate. So if you are my mate, that means I can make your wolf my familiar.” She smiled slyly and pretended to rub her hands with glee. “Ha, I will be the most powerful Emotional witch in all the realms once I have snared a Silver Wolf for my familiar!”
Dax wrapped his arms around her and kissed her tenderly. “You don't have to snare me. You have me. You have me truly, wholly, heart and soul, man and wolf. I love you,” he whispered.
She smiled against his lips. I love you too.
She broke the kiss just in time to catch that flash of wicked silver in his eye. Dax was a very bad wolf.
Laughing, she let him tackle her and tumble her right back into bed.
