We walked further in and came upon the back of a swing. I was about to tell Brody I was willing to give that a try when he suddenly moved us quickly away. But not fast enough to miss the woman’s high-pitched moan, which I recognized as Fiona. We had stumbled upon them with Laura and Rich from Underworld. At least, I think, it was Doc swinging her but decided not to check though I was certain she was enjoying herself.

I leaned up to his ear and said. “Maybe we can start outside? If that’s okay?”

“I’m only here because of you,” he said simply. He took my hand and led us back upstairs.

I looked at the glass door, and the lights that lit up the backyard, and he moved me closer to it. There was a lot of shrubbery and skin glowing in the night. Brody slipped his hand under my dress and inside my bikini bottoms and felt the wetness there.

“Mmm, this is what you want,” he said in a low tone.

I let out a low moan. “Oh, Yes.”

He took his hand out, and I whimpered.

But then he slowly sucked his fingers and growled out. “Run.”

I did. Running full out for the door, but not quick enough to stop him from ripping the back of the dress apart making it gape open as I ran out into the backyard. I lost my shoes first, but the grass was like thick carpet. Being half naked, I still had more clothes on than those outside and that had me less self-conscious. Truthfully, I didn’t care; I wanted Brody to capture and take me.

I made it around a couple that were having an active sex session and stopped to catch my breath. I removed the rest of my dress. Looking over my shoulder, I caught sight of Brody and suddenly realized I didn’t want to run too hard. His eyes glowed in the night and stood out from his chiseled features. The carved muscles of his body had mine hot and aching for him to take me. He still had on his jeans. Barely. And boy did I ever know how amazing he looked out of those jeans!

He stalked over to me, and I acted as if I was trying to get away from being snatched. When he caught me, he ripped off of my bikini top. His strong arm circled my waist and gripped my panties, which he tore off and left in a heap. I was naked and dripping wet now, I could feel my arousal on my thigh, and I was so ready for whatever he was going to do to me. He turned me onto my back. His hands closed around my wrists as he straddled my waist. I was completely naked and exposed for him. I felt nervous as another couple came up to watch us.

  “Hold her wrist,” Brody instructed.

My eyes widened. I was shocked to find someone I hadn’t seen before holding my wrist. He moaned above me as someone else was sucking him off noisily. I felt a shot of anger as I fought to get free, but I couldn’t. But then I stopped moving, remembering Brody asked him to.

“Eyes on me,” Brody commanded. A bit of betrayal filled mine, which he quickly remedied, by leaning over to my ear and saying, “I’m here. No one is fucking or touching more than your wrists. Just let go.”

He got up, removed his jeans and was now gloriously nude and that got my attention and I’m sure those watching, too. “Spread your legs.”

The dark look he gave me was filled with his need for me. I wasn’t going to deny him and willingly spread my legs. I was surprised that having people watching turned me on even more though I knew in my heart, body, and mind, everything was for Brody.

He bent to his knees and licked my pussy with one long stroke. Oh God.

I arched my back and cried out. I didn’t know if it was the lack of control or the people, but the feeling was so much more intense than before. He circled his tongue around my clit, then licked and flicked. The sound of us, and those nearby breathing hard, filled my ears as the sensations coursed through me. I panted hard and squirmed, but the stranger’s hands were strong, and Brody’s body between my thighs kept control. He put pressure on his tongue as he teased my clit. He moved a finger inside, and stroked right where I needed him, and I came. Tremor after tremor erupted through me, as waves upon wave of ecstasy crashed over me.

“Oh God, Brody,” I called out as I came hard against his mouth. An immense pleasure washed through me, and I was in utter bliss.

Brody wasn’t done. He continued to lap and suck my pussy.

I shook hard as the orgasms racked my body. “Let me go. This is too much,” I rasped out. He was relentless and kept going, not giving me a moment’s respite. Light filled my vision as my muscles tensed and clenched as I came and came again. My whole body vibrated. When he was ready, he finally let me go and crawled from between my legs and kissed me deeply. “That was so beautiful, Piper,” Brody said.

“That was,” the stranger said, letting go of my wrist.

I kissed him back as much as I could though my body was exhausted. I was high on the pleasure he had given to me. I could feel his cock pressed hard between us. He wanted more, and so did I.

I was so swollen from his eating me, he had to push to get inside of me. When he was fully immersed, he stayed still and kissed me.

  “You’re so perfect,” Brody whispered.

Perfect for him? I could only dream. He was my dream. He moved inside me slowly and deeply. Kissing me between long sweet thrusts. It was amazing. When he came, he held me and kissed me.

Gary stepped forward and handed Brody a soft blanket that he spread out and moved me on top of, and we snuggled up under the stars. “Every moment I have with you is my favorite too,” I said to him. I must have drifted because when my eyes opened up again. Brody was standing over me with his phone at his ear. The contacts were gone, and so was all the happiness he had shared with me.

“I’m on my way,” he said. He hung up the phone and grabbed his jeans. “Seren got sick. I’m leaving now.”

ALL I KNEW WAS that I had to go. I was moving toward the house at a high speed with Piper struggling to keep up. When I got to the bedroom and was changing my clothes, she cornered me.

“What happened?” she asked. She looked distressed, and I stopped to comfort her with a quick hug, but I couldn’t linger. I needed to get to Seren. I needed to get to Chicago. “Seren was told by one of Cole’s marine friends that he was missing. She became hysterical, her temperature spiked. They have her in the hospital. I have to go.”

She let go and grabbed her shirt and jeans. “I’m coming with you.”

“No. You should stay,” I said.

  “No I’m coming,” she replied.

  “You can’t . . . I need to focus. I can’t, with you there,” I said.

My heart broke as I saw tears falling down her face. I didn’t have time to fight, and I didn’t want to hurt her anymore, so I told her. “Fine you can come. I need to tell Doc and Fiona.” I quickly packed the rest of my stuff up, and so did Piper.

“Take these to the caravan and meet me outside. I need to find Doc and Fiona.” I handed her the spare key, and she set off to do as I told her, while I went on a search for Doc and Fiona.

My search of the basement turned up nothing. I was about to go back outside when I ran into Gary. He told me which bedroom I could find them in. I ran back up the stairs and pounded on their door before opening it.

“Brody?” Fiona said surprised. I quickly explained to her what I knew.

“We will come too,” Doc said.

“No. It’ll be better if you let me call you later when I know more, but no matter what, this trip is over,” I said.

  They nodded in agreement.

“We’ll stop by, no matter what, tomorrow. We’d be going back home to Madison anyway,” Doc said.

  “Where is Piper?” Fiona asked.

“She’s with me, but if you could . . .”

“I will bring her stuff. You go,” Fiona said, and she hugged me.

“I’ll see you off. If you have any trouble at the hospital. Call me. I’ll get someone on it,” Doc said, putting on his clothes.

He followed me out of the house and helped me unload my bike from the trailer. I got the paperwork the hospital needed from my suitcase and stored it in one of the saddlebags. Piper stood quiet
ly by, but when the bike was down she was by my side climbing behind me, and we set off.

The light traffic made it a quick ride from Lake Forest to Chicago. When we got there, I was too distracted by my thoughts that I had to check and recheck the directions that Riley had given me, to Mercer Hospital. All I could think of was that this was my fault for being selfish. Seren was depressed before she left, but I let her go anyway. Cole could be lost or dead for all we knew. I couldn’t lose her too. I pulled up to the front of the circular drive before the hospital. Zack and Riley came out of the doors and running up to me.

  “I’m sorry, Brody,” Riley said.

My heart constricted. “Is Seren . . . ?” I couldn’t bring myself to say it.

Riley shook her head, and I breathed again. “She’s sick, but they think they can get her fever down. They won’t let us near her. They need you to sign stuff. She needs you.”

  “I’m coming,” I said.

“I’ll put your bike away for you,” Zack offered, and I handed him the keys and climbed off. Piper got off too, and I wanted to make sure she was okay, but instead I ran into the hospital and over to the desk.

“Serendipity Monroe,” I said to the nurse.

  “You are?” she asked.

“I’m Broderick Whitehurst. Her legal guardian,” I said.

“We’ll need the proof,” she said.

I handed over my legal information and consent forms along with her insurance card. I also handed over information on her recent surgeries and her specialist contact from California.

“You’re very organized,” The nurse said and went away to copy it for her file. When she came back, she handed it to me along with more paperwork. “Sorry. There is still more to fill out, but I’ll see about you doing it upstairs. She’s on the fifth floor.”

“Thank you,” I said. I ran over to the elevator and up to the fifth floor. I approached the desk and the nurse and registered as her visitor.

“I’m her nurse this evening. Seren is sedated, but she has not fallen asleep. She has been asking for you,” she said handing back my ID.

I nodded and went to the room where they had her. She looked frail and tiny in the bed. Her face was pale and drawn. Her eyes were practically swollen shut. I blinked back the tears I had there and approached the bed.

“Brody?” she whispered. I tried to grab and hold her, but they had tubes in her arms. So I cupped her head and kissed her forehead. She was hot. “Why didn’t you call me?”

“I didn’t want to ruin your time,” she said quietly.

I wiped my eyes and waited until I caught hers. “You are my time. Always.”

“Brody. I know I pushed you to Piper, but if Cole’s missing or gone . . . I can’t lose the both of you. I know that’s selfish, and I’m sorry, but I really can’t. Please don’t leave me,” she said, crying.

I held her close. “Cole is working or on his way here to surprise us. He is not missing. He will call soon. When they let you out of here, we will go to Colorado Springs. I told you I wasn’t going anywhere, and I’m not, so don’t worry. As far as Piper. . . .” I cleared my throat. “She’ll have to go.” I swallowed.

Her shoulders dropped, and I rocked her for a while until she fell asleep. I then sat down and finished the paperwork and went through her things. Her doctor came in and checked her over, she barely roused and went back to sleep. He gave me a report.

“Her temperature is elevated. I would have released her, but I understand from her doctor she’s in recovery. He recommended, and I agreed, to run some test to make sure she’s fine. We should be able to release her tomorrow or the next day. She probably needs some rest, and she’ll be fine. I’ll check on her later.”

“Thank you,” I said. I got up and came out to hand over the paperwork. I passed by the waiting room and was surprised to find Riley, Zack, and Piper sitting there waiting.

  “I’m sorry I didn’t come out before,” I said.

“It’s fine man. What’s the word?” Zack asked.

“She has a fever, and they are running some tests, but he believes she will be fine. They may release her tomorrow. But no matter what, we can’t continue, on the road. We haven’t heard back yet from Cole. You all should go back to the hotel. I’ll call you in the morning,” I said.

“It is morning,” Riley said. “But we understand.”

“Okay, later then. Please take Piper back to the hotel with you,” I said.

“No, I’m waiting right here with you,” she said stubbornly.

I looked at her then. My heart skipped a beat at what I saw on her face. She hadn’t given up on us like me. She wanted reassurance, but I couldn’t give it to her. I had to pull away. “No, you won’t. I . . . I don’t want you here. I can’t think, with you here.”

Zack gave me a dirty look, but I didn’t say anything else. I turned and went back into the room and to Seren.

MY HEART FELT TOO big for my chest. I had his touch, his mark, all over my body. None of it mattered. Brody wanted me to leave. He didn’t want me.

“Brody’s not usually a dick. He’s upset. Come on, Piper,” Zack said, putting his hand on my shoulder.

I wiped my eyes. “I’ll be fine. You guys go. I’ll get myself together. I’ll leave from here.”

“Okay, well I think Fiona and Doc will be here this afternoon with your suitcase and stuff so . . . Anyway, it was good meeting you,” Riley said and gave me a quick hug.

Zack hesitated. “I don’t like leaving you here. I can call Jay to come and wait with you.”

“I’m fine,” I said with conviction. “If I decide to rent a room, I’ll do it.”

“Here is my phone number. You get stuck; you call me, or Jay,” Zack said and kissed my cheek. I took their numbers, and they left.

Now I was alone. Where I wasn’t wanted. I didn’t know where to go or what I should do. After a couple of hours of staring into space, Seren’s door opened again and Brody walked out. His brows were lowered. “Zack said you were here.”

“It’s a free country,” I said and lifted my chin.

“That’s not the reason you’re still here,” he said quietly. “Come with me.”

I got up and followed him down the hall to an empty lounge that was set back from the rest. “Sit down, I want to share something with you,” he said. I sat and waited for a few minutes. He reached inside his leather jacket and pulled out his cigarette pack and removed a small crushed picture behind it and handed it to me.

My eyes widened as I registered the photo. It was an ultrasound.

“A couple of years ago I met Mia at one of my bike shows in Los Angeles. She was a glamorous new actress and well out of my league. We both came from money, but neither of us had it anymore. Her family went bankrupt and mine just cut me loose. Anyway, she, like me, was tired of one-night stands and wanted something real. So we dated and soon became inseparable. After a while, I asked her to marry me. We moved to Colorado Springs and chose our dream house. It was a fixer upper, but I poured everything I had, into her and that place. I wanted her to be happy, and I believed she was, for a while, at least.” Brody stopped to catch his breath, and I patiently waited as he continued.

“What I didn’t know until later, was that she still had dreams of becoming a star. She thought that by being with me; my parents would help her family recover their fortune. She thought their connections would help her acting career. My parents, of course, wouldn’t, but no matter what I told her she didn’t believe me.”

He looked miserable, and I touched his arm and said. “She manipulated you. That’s not your fault.”

“That wasn’t how she saw it. I tried to help her out as much as I could, but nothing I did was good enough. I wasn’t good enough for her. I realized she never loved me. I tried to break up with her for both our sakes, but she announced she was pregnant. When I tried to find out about the pregnancy, she kept it from me. She was determined I was holding out on her. She used the baby as a hold over me. When she
finally accepted my family would never give us money, she turned on me. While I was away working on my last bike tour, she left me. This photo of my child and a note saying, “sex was all I was good for” was the only thing in the house. She picked it clean. When I found her, she didn’t have the child anymore. She blamed me for leaving and not providing enough for her. I blamed me too. I got real depressed. I haven’t been back to the house since.”

“What a horrible bitch. You are more than enough. You didn’t deserve any of that,” I said.

Brody took the photo back and placed it in his jacket. “I don’t know if I do or don’t. But in a way, I’m happy for the lesson. Mia taught me only to go for what is within my reach. She wanted more than I could give. So the reason I shared this with you is for you to understand I don’t have anything to give you, Piper.”

“I don’t understand. What does that have to do with us?” I asked.

“It means it’s time for you to go home. Cole was trying to scare you off the other day, and he can be an ass, but his intentions are good. He cares about us. He brought Seren into my life in the hope that the three of us could be a family. A true ménage and this trip was supposed to help with that, but then you came . . .”

My lips curled. “You blame me.”

“No, I blame myself. I showed up at your room. I took you back to mine. I wanted us, but it’s not possible. When Cole’s found we’ll work it out, he believes we all can be happy,” he said.

“Why can’t I be a part of your happy?” I asked pitifully.

“You are, but you also have your whole life ahead of you. You’re off to see and conquer the world, and we all want that for you,” Brody said and lifted my face up to him. “I want that for you, Sprite.”

“What about us? I thought you felt about me, the way I feel about you. I thought you cared,” I spluttered.

“I do. You’re beautiful, funny, special, and perfect. You’re right in here, and will always be there,” he placed his hand high on his chest. I would have thought he was unaffected if I didn’t see his hand trembling. Still, I couldn’t curb my bitterness.
