I look at Janet and she looks at me and our faces have lost all their color. Then Sadie saunters over, looks down at us and pointing at us with a somewhat sardonic grin says, “Gotcha! You want to play games, we’ll play games.”
Before we can think of anything to say, she walks away laughing her head off. I’m wondering where the card came from and I’m sure Janet’s wondering the same thing. Then it dawns on us both at the same time. Looking over at Don who’ got this sheepish grin on his face we give him the knowing stare. He says, “I couldn’t resist and I like mother hens.”
Janet says, “Whodda thunk. The FBI and Sadie co-conspirators. Unbelievable. Traitor! For that you can pay the tab.”
Laughing at our being taken in, we get up and start for the door. Glancing back we see Ericson laughing, turning the check over and reaching for his wallet. Before we’re out of hearing range we hear him say, “There are times I just love this job.”
Looking at Janet I say, “I think we’ve just helped forged a partnership that’s going to keep us hopping.”
Smiling she says, “How about we get out of here and work on forging our partnership?”
I say, “Oh yeah.”
