Zombie Theorem (Book 3): The End Game Page 26

by James Wallace

Dan stood and extended his hand to Chun again. They shook. “Thank you for joining us. I have a feeling that we are not out of the fire yet. This place is fast becoming hotly contested ground.”

Doc appeared at the door, holding a sheet of paper in one hand, and a dour look on his face. “Dan, this just came in on the radio for you from I guess what they call ‘headquarters’ now.”

Dan took the paper and read through it. His face went from confusion, to sadness, to anger, and then to a fierce determination. Brian had seen that look before, back when the worst thing that could happen was a failed project when they had worked together.

  “Boss?” Brian asked.

Dan looked over to him and gave him a sad smile, then handed the piece of paper over to him. Brian read through it and then dropped his head in defeat. “How the hell are we going to fight this?” he asked.

“Fight what?” Chun and Kuppers asked simultaneously.

Dan motioned for Brian to take over the briefing. “According to this, we are in for it big time. Ridder has amassed a zombie army, way bigger than the one they sent after our base in Idaho. They also have an armored core with them; tanks, APCs, and looks like a proper artillery company. They seem to be playing for keeps this time.”

“What is the ETA to their arrival?” Chun asked taking in the information.

Brian looked over the sheet, “Thirty-six hours, give or take a couple.”

“Do we have any help coming from the General?” Chun asked.

Kuppers answered Chun. “No, looks like they are having problems on their end. We are going to be all on our own. We are getting used to it.”

“Is this going to be our End Game?” Butch asked in the back ground.

Dan stood and looked around to everyone, meeting their stares, and then turned to Butch, centering his attention on him. “I don’t know about you, Butch, but I don’t intend to die. I intend to stop trying to survive. I have full trust in Joseph to find his cure, and when he does, I intend to take the fight to Ridder and the Initiative. Sit down with Kuppers, Vic, and Brian, and figure out how to fight and beat Ridder when they come to our door. I will deal with General Richards and try to shake loose some toys and supplies.”

Dan turned and walked from the room. Butch looked over to Chun and was given a silent order to follow him and guard him. Brian looked to Chun. “That man is going to lead us all to success. I hope you know that.”

“That he is, but in the meantime, we are going to be in for the fight of our lives.” Chun cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders. “All right, gentlemen. The Boss gave us a directive. Let’s get to it.”
