The infection has gone global. Powerful nations empty to close their borders, using long range missiles to purge the infection in the cities of neighbouring countries. In the ruins of an American city, a cure has been found. Experiment Sixty-One has returned to normality. Special Forces head into the heart of infected territory to retrieve Experiment Sixty-One before China unleashes nuclear Armageddon on the rest of the planet. It is a race against time in this heart stopping action packed story of survival.

‘You know the others will be mad if they catch us,’ said Liam, but she silenced him with a deep, passionate kiss. Liam didn’t have the self-control needed to stop her, what man did? Jasmine was hot. She was slightly shorter than him, allowing him to loom over her. Her beautiful blonde hair was slapped back. Jasmine wore a tight white vest, which revealed her sexy curvy figure and nice breasts. The splatters of blood on her face and clothes made her look dangerous. A machete was attached to her hip. Liam kicked the bedroom door closed, as he fumbled with her trouser button. Only one candle was alight in the room. It sat on the bedside table, the tiny flame flickered a small orange glow. The windows had been boarded up, allowing only a few beams of light to peek through and glisten off the floating dust particles. The two of them had the entire base to themselves. The others wouldn’t be back from the supply run for another few hours. Jasmine pulled her tongue out of his mouth and stroked his manhood over the top of his trousers. He was already getting so turned on. ‘I need you so bad, baby.’ Jasmine’s smile was practically consuming her entire face. She tore open her combat trousers, as she kicked off her running trainers. Liam was doing the same thing. It was a race to see who could get naked the quickest. Jasmine stepped out of her panties, turned her back on him and leaned forward. Liam took a moment to examine the masterpiece that was her ass.

  ‘Fuck me, Liam.’

  He didn’t need telling twice

Liam shuffled up behind his wife. Jasmine gasped at the feel of his manhood opening her up. Strong hands stroked up her naked back, as Liam continued to push his hips forward, making her take every inch of him. Jasmine gasped and fell forward into the knee high lake of muddy water. She gagged as the disgusting taste of the foul water filled her mouth. She came up gasping for air. Cold winds whipped by, chilling her naked body and making waves in the water. Wide eyes glanced around the landscape. What had just happened? One moment she had been fucking Liam and the next she was out here? She was somewhere in the city. The decaying remains of a heavily bombed city were all around her. The sun was either setting or rising, she couldn’t tell which one. There was enough light to see, but not enough to see too much. Her heart was beating at a million miles an hour. Hundreds of the infected were shuffling through the knee high lake of muddy water all around her. Blood dripped from the eyes of the infected, as their teeth snapped angrily at the air. Manic screams echoed into the cold night sky. One by one they all screamed out at the top of their voice. It was like a festival for the insane. Jasmine hugged her wet naked body in an attempt to get some warmth. She glanced around, spotting an opening in the herd of the infected. There was no second thought needed. Jasmine made a break for the gap. If these monsters saw her they would beat, rape, eat and kill her. She needed to get back to the base. She needed to know what had just happened. How did she get out here? Her mind was completely blank. Where was Liam? She had to find Liam.

Doctor Edward Cameron sighed deeply, as he tossed the freshly cooked chicken burger through the bars of the six foot by six-foot steel cage. His wife threw herself at the metal bar, smashing her head violently, as she slashed a hand out towards him. A psychotic howl left her lips and echoed around the basement. Doctor Cameron stepped back and sighed again. Blood flowed like a river from both of her eyes. His wife growled angrily, shaking the bars. He knew she would calm down after a while and eat the food on the floor, but it broke his heart to see her like this. The murderous intent in her heart just proved how much she loved him. Only through love and lust is the ingenious virus triggered. It would turn the most loving partner into an insane killer. He had lost his wife three weeks into the outbreak. A man made virus had been released into a city centre. It was the ultimate terrorist attack designed to wipe out the human race. Love and lust were the triggers. As soon as the outbreak started spreading innocent people rushed to their families to protect them from the monsters, but as soon as they came into contact with their loved ones they turned and became the monsters. The only way to protect your important people was to stay as far from them as possible. Dr Cameron discovered this information too late. His wife had become one of the infected. And now they lived alone in this secret bunker. He had no idea where his children were or if they were safe, but the best thing he could do for them was stay away from them. If the virus was man made, then he was certain he could find a cure. His wife was sick, nothing more.

A beeping sound echoed through the basement.

‘Eh?’ he turned towards his secret laboratory. Plastic sheets hung down from the ceiling to conceal the silver tables with the cut up remains of his failed experiments. Beyond the tables were a row of complicated computers. The one in the middle had a flashing red light on a small monitor and was bleeping like a cheap alarm clock. ‘My god...’ the old man rushed across the room, darted through the plastic sheeting and stopped in front of the computer console. Behind him, his wife continued to howl. Doctor Cameron surveyed the screen. It was a bird’s eye view of a map of the local area. There were currently seven blue dots on the map and one red one. It was the red one that got his full attention. ‘It’s worked. The cure worked.’ His hand snatched up the phone on the desk without even thinking. He had to tell them. They needed to know. He had found a cur
e to the infection. Experiment sixty-one had worked!

Boots thumped off the hanger floor, as eight marines came marching in. These were no ordinary marines. These men and women were the best of the best. They had survived countless missions against the infected. Each of the marines wore black from head to toe. It was black boots, black combats, and black combat jackets. Stab resistant body armour covered their torso and backs. Black gloves with built in knuckle dusters covered their hands. Black full-face helmets covered their head, features and head. Not a single inch of skin was exposed. This was to protect them from each other. The infection could be activated by thoughts of lust. A single glance at a beautiful woman or a hot man and it was game over. The marines wore microphones that muffled their voices, concealing their sex. They were all pooled from different satellite training areas so that emotional bonds could not trigger the infection. They all carried a various selection of automatic weapons, shotguns and explosives. General Bogden was stood by the hanger entrance, where a large combat helicopter was preparing for takeoff. Both pilots also wore masks to conceal their face, voice and features. The eight marines marched up to the General and formed a line in front of him.

‘Experiment sixty-one has awoken in Quadrant two of City Seven. We have programmed your GPS trackers to be able to locate the chip we implanted in experiment sixty-one’s head. You will be landing on top of a skyscraper in the heart of the city.’ A few of the marines shuffled. They all knew what they meant. They were going into the infected territory. The city centres were swarming with the infected. ‘This mission is vital to the future of the human race. Experiment sixty-one potential holds the cure to kill off this virus. Get into the city, locate experiment sixty-one and get to the extraction point.’ General Bogden rocked on his heels for a moment. A big part of him wanted to go with them, but his days of active missions were over. A bum knee after a tricky parachute drop had seen to that. ‘Good luck.’

Pain splintered across her kneecap as she slipped in the mud. Jasmine had to bite her bottom lip to stop herself from crying out. Blood was pouring from the wound. Frightened eyes looked back at the infected men, women and children travelling together. It was like something out of a horror movie. Jasmine sucked up the pain and scrambled through the debris of a falling building now floating in the river of mud. A hand reached out to her from behind a large section of fallen wall. A woman was trapped beneath the rubble, blood dripping out the side of her mouth, blood dripping from her eyes. She screamed at the top of her lungs, lashing her one good hand at Jasmine. Jasmine pulled away from the woman and continued forward, but she could hear the splashing in the water behind her. Unconsciously, she glanced back towards the muddy river. The infected closest to the sound of the screaming were sloshing through the mud towards her. Manic screams and haunting cries echoed up into the air. Jasmine pushed on through the debris. It was hard going, and she felt her energy being zapped away so quickly. Her stomach grumbled in protest. It felt like she hadn’t eaten in days. Jasmine reached an incline and went up it on all fours. The heavens suddenly opened up, as thunder rumbled in the sky above. A heavy downpour of rain came lashing down upon her, stinging her naked body. The top of the incline looked like the rear to some kind of depot. A wire fence was down on the floor, making for easy access into the compound. She couldn’t see any of the infected. She charged forward as fast as she could, making a beeline to an open door of a supply shed. She ducked inside and pulled the door too. The shadows would conceal her location. A horrible thought came to mind. The shadows would also conceal the location of any infected trapped in here. Jasmine nearly bolted from the shed because of that thought alone, but a narrow glass window gave her a direct view of the infected that were chasing her. They ran blindly into the compound, ignored the shed and continued off into the main building. Only now did Jasmine turn towards the back of the shed. Her eyes were growing accustomed to the dark. There didn’t seem to be anyone here. She dropped down onto her bum, buried her head into the palms of her hands and began to sob.

Liam skidded to a halt as the canned foods dropped out of his back pack and scattered on the mall floor. ‘Leave them!’ Darren ordered in a hushed whisper, as he ran by. Penny broke her stride just long enough to grab Liam by the wrist and pull him in the direction she was running. It hurt Liam to do it, but he left the tinned food on the mall floor. Finding supplies was getting harder by the day, as more and more of the infected swept into the city centre, but currently, they had something more troubling to worry about than the infected. Liam followed Penny down a set of escalators. Flies buzzed around dead bodies that lay in the various shops. These were the people not quick enough to escape the monsters on the day of the outbreak. A pack of dogs were happily eating the innards of a young kid a little way to the right. They didn’t seem to be giving the trio the slightest bit of attention. Darren was already halfway down the street when they climbed through the broken glass doors. A quick glance proved that there was no infected in the local area. They headed off after Darren. The young man was the faster runner in the group. His speed kept him alive. Penny and Liam ran side by side, darting through the graveyard of cars that were forever trapped in an eternal traffic jam. Darren released an ear shattering scream from the alleyway ahead. Penny and Liam stopped in the mouth of the alleyway and looked down at Darren. A gruesome metal bear trap had chewed up his left leg, practically cutting it in two.

  ‘Help me!’ Darren screamed.

‘That wasn’t there earlier,’ Penny said what they were all thinking.

They had taken this route directly to the mall from their hidden base.

The trap had been set in the last twenty minutes.

‘Help me!’ Darren’s screams echoed through the silent streets.

Liam grabbed Penny by the hand and pulled her away from the alleyway. The young woman didn’t resist. They both knew they couldn’t help Darren. His screams would attract the infected. Every monster for miles around would be heading this way, but then there was the hunter. The two of them ran off. Darren tried to open the trap, but even the slightest movement caused blistering pain to cut through his body. ‘Shit...’ Darren looked at the figure in black at the mouth of the alleyway. The figure was about six foot six, but the black police issue riot armour made him look deceptively larger. The man carried an assault rifle at the ready like a soldier on patrol. On his back were a rocket launcher and a shotgun. He carried a handgun on each hip and wore a belt of grenades across his torso. The blacked out visor concealed any facial expressions. The hunter approached Darren, as he tried to crawl away to very little effect. ‘Please. You don’t have to do this. You don’t have to do this.’ The hunter raised his assault rifle, standing two foot away from the trapped Darren. A controlled burst of fire blew the top of Darren’s head clean off, spraying brain matter and gore into the guttering.

President Gomez sat back in his leather chair, allowing the information to circle his mind like water going down a drain. A wall of television screens filled the far wall of the meeting room. News networks from every country were showing images of the infected charging through their streets. The infection had reached from America to Australia, from Western Europe to the Middle East. China was the first country to act. In an attempt to stop the virus from reaching their borders they launched a devastating attack on their neighbours. Russia fought back, destroying entire cities. Europe was in an equally awful state. Countries that had been allies for decades were now bombing each other cities and sending tanks over the borders. President Gomez looked at the faces of his general’s and advisors. He didn’t know half the people in the room. Every day someone else turned, and someone new had to fill the void. President Gomez was not the elected President. He was the twenty-fourth person in line. The shit had well and truly hit the fan. Now every decision rested on his shoulders. China was planning to remove all threats once and for all. Intelligence reports showed they
were about to launch tactical nuclear strikes across the globe in an attempt to wipe out the infection. Diplomatic talks in Paris had failed. Only one option was on the table. The United States of America had to strike first. The whole room waited for his answer. ‘I need time to think,’ he pushed himself back from the table and headed out of the room. Gomez wasn’t sure where he was planning to go. The underground bunker didn’t offer him a place of solitude to reflect on his thoughts. People were everywhere and everyone one of them carried the infection virus within them. What was he supposed to do? He never signed up for this. How could he authorise a nuclear attack? How could he ever sleep at night again after massacring billions of people?

Duncan looked down at the city in ruins. Thousands of the infected walked the streets of this once thriving metropolis. Fires burnt on the horizon, as haunting screams echoed up from below. Duncan had always imagined hell to look something like this. They were one mile off from the skyscraper. It was the tallest structure still standing. It would be the starting point of this potential rescue mission, even though Duncan didn’t have a clue to what state this experiment sixty-one would be in. Eight marines in a city full of the infected were practically a suicide mission. It didn’t matter how good the rest of the team were, only a handful of them were making it home.

‘Shit...’ someone said what he was thinking, as the rocket came flashing up from a rooftop below.

Warning alarms could be heard from the cockpit, followed by the frantic shouts of the pilot, and then an explosion so loud that Duncan was sure his ear drums had just been ruptured. Gravity grabbed him from behind, pinning him to the seat, as the helicopter dropped and spun. Duncan didn’t know if he blacked out or closed his eyes, but one moment he was in freefall and the next he was sat in his chair, looking at a gaping hole in the hull. The two members of his team opposite were gone. Beyond the hole was a city street. Duncan lifted his head and groaned. His neck was throbbing. Unconsciously, he looked down and took stock. He still had both arms and legs. The cockpit was gone too. The back of the helicopter remained. One of the team was lying face down in the centre of the aisle. Another was slumped forward with a piece of metal protruding from their throat.
