‘Miss, do something!’ James screamed, as more bodies surrounded the car.

Fran started the engine again, took a deep breath like someone on a driving test and pulled away slowly. Once forward momentum had been achieved she wasted no time in working her way through the gears. The two of them sped through the street like formula one racing car drivers.

  ***

Ashleigh sprinted down the corridor, trying every single door that she reached, but the signs all read “staff only” and required a special key card to gain access. Frightened eyes looked back at the insane men chasing her down the corridor. She ran forward and tried the next set of double doors. It led into a gym. Relief washed over her as the doors swung open. She dived inside, spun one hundred and eighty degrees and flicked the bolts at the top of the doors. Heavy thumping reached her ears, as the men outside finally caught up. The doors did not give, and they did not budge. Slowly, she back away from the door and then turned to assess her next move. Ashleigh could feel her heart freeze. Five enormous muscular men were inside the gym. This was a special area reserved for professional weightlifters, which meant they were not intimidating the average Joe, who came to the centre to run on a treadmill. The men were so big that their muscles had muscles. All five of them looking the gorgeous woman up and down, as she stood there like some kind of model in her swimsuit. Blood poured from their eyes. They turned so quickly that Ashleigh didn’t even have time to react. Her screams echoed throughout the sports centre, as all five men pounced on her.

Sam rummaged through the emergency contingency box beneath the shop floor counter. It was standard procedure that all stores had these boxes in case of a power cut. It would allow them to continue to trade through manual processes. One of the things in the box was the torch. ‘I found it,’ he said, flicking on the flashlight. The light of the touch fought back the pitch black darkness that had consumed the store. ‘I think it is pointless to continue the counts. I will escalate the issue in the morning,’ he explained.

  ‘I found these,’ replied Helen.

Sam turned the torch towards her.

She was sitting on the shop floor counter, sexy legs dangling in the air, whilst she spun her panties around her index finger. Slowly, she began to lift her work skirt up, as parted her legs. Sam could have looked away at any moment, but he did not. She revealed her most private area.

  ‘You have two choices, Sam.’

‘I do?’ he asked, his mouth felt parched.

‘You can lock up the shop and go home.’

  ‘What is my other option?’

‘You take me to the staff room and fuck me.’ She hopped off the counter. ‘I will be in the staff room.’

  ***

Megan’s car bounced onto the curb as they came to an abrupt stop. Tessa threw open her door. ‘I will grab my kids and husband and be right back.’ Charlotte nodded her head in reply, as wide eyes scanned the shadows of the street for any movement. They could see people fighting within the interior of the houses, but for now, the streets looked quiet. Tessa sprinted up her garden and disappeared through the front door.

Doctor Elizabeth Jones clutched the knife to her breast, as she walked through the laboratory. Dead bodies lay everywhere. Bullets had punctured their bodies and left holes all over the walls. Puddles of blood covered the floor. Elizabeth stepped over one of the dead and cursed the sound of the cracking glass beneath her feet. Horrific screams echoed through the corridor she had just been through. The noise inspired Elizabeth to get moving. She headed into the main laboratory area. In the centre of the room was a big glass tube that was five foot wide and extended up through the ceiling towards the roof. A green toxic cloud swirled within the interior of the pipe.

‘You’re alive,’ said a voice to her right.

Elizabeth turned to face her husband.

His eyes were red raw from where he had been crying.

In his hands was a gun.

  ‘What have you done?’

‘What have I done?’ replied Doctor Malcolm Jones. He was considered one of the greatest minds in the world. ‘What the fuck have you done?’ he waved the gun at her.

‘I don’t know what you are talking about.’

‘I don’t know what you are talking about,’ he mocked in a girly voice. ‘Do you think I am stupid? Well, do you?’ He screamed the last word at her. ‘I know all about you and Damian.’

  ‘What...?’

Guilt was written upon her face. She immediately broke eye contact.

‘I know you have been fucking him. I loved you. I loved you more than you ever know. How could you do this to me?’ He got out of his chair and marched towards her. ‘I gave you everything. I gave you my heart.’

  ‘I’m sorry.’

‘Sorry!’ He screamed like a mad man. ‘Sorry doesn’t cut it. You have done this,’ he waved a hand at the destroyed laboratory. ‘This world is going to die, and it is all your fault.’

  ‘What did you do?’

‘I released my greatest invention into the atmosphere. I will let every seedy little fucker like you die. It is an airborne sexually transmitted disease. Any thoughts of lust will turn the person into madness. Blood will pour from their eyes as insanity consumes their mind. Every dirty little cunt like you will die!’

‘I will stop you,’ she headed for the computer console.

‘FUCK YOU!’ Brains, gore, and blood sprayed across the glass tube, as Malcolm blew the back of her head off.

  ***

The sight of her children made her burst into tears. Tessa was relieved to see that they were both still alive. She rushed into the living room and swept them into her arms. ‘Mummy,’ they cried out in unison, as she hugged them tight. Footsteps thundered down the stairs, as John came into the room holding a butcher's knife.

‘Tessa,’ his smile was so wide that it practically consumed his face. ‘You’re alive.’

‘I am so happy to see you,’ she replied. It was then that the infection took her over.

  ***

Megan watched the streets, as Charlotte fiddled with the car radio. A voice came through the speakers, ‘it is believed that there has been a terrorist attack on the city. Early reports confirm that a chemical agent has been released into the air and is causing people to go mad.’

  ‘A chemical agent,’ gasped Charlotte.

  ‘Why would they attack here?’

The newsreader went on, ‘the chemical agent is activated in high states of love or lust, which is why you must stay away from loved ones.’

‘They can’t be serious,’ said Charlotte.

  ‘Shit,’ cursed Megan.

‘What is it?’ Charlotte looked around the vacant streets, eyes full of panic.

‘Tessa just went into her home. Her loved ones are there.’ Megan was out of the car and running towards the house before her mind could even compute what type of danger she was potentially heading into.

  ***

Sweet little moans were whispered into her ear, as Sam pushed his index finger into her most private area. Helen’s breathing was so deep that it caused her breasts to heave beneath her blouse. She parted her legs for him and sank deeper into the couch. Sam’s lips walked a line of kisses along her neck, whilst his finger slid back and forth. Her mound was getting wetter by the second.

‘I want you so bad,’ she whispered.

  ‘I need you,’ he replied.

  ‘Do you have any protection?’

He paused for a moment, ‘my wallet.’

  ‘Get it,’ ordered Helen.

  ***

Nicky and Eddie sat in the cockpit, as they ran through the initial steps to get the engines going. ‘I can’t believe we are actually doing this,’ commented Eddie. ‘Thousands of people are going to die.’

‘It is the only way,’ said Nicky, a look of resignation was painted on her face.

‘There has to be something we can do to save them.’

  ‘The
only thing we can do is stop the infection from spreading.’

‘But all those people are going to die.’

‘I don’t like it anymore than you, but it is the mission. If you can’t do it, then get out now.’

Eddie hesitated before opening his mouth.

  Could he do it?

Could he actually drop a bomb on all those innocent people?

If he didn’t do it, someone else would.

  ‘I can do it.’

‘Good. I don’t want to talk for a little while,’ replied Nicky.

  ***

‘Oh fuck,’ cursed Megan, as she looked down as John’s body. A pair of scissors had been stabbed in his throat, practically cutting him from ear to ear. Agonising screams of young children could be heard from the landing. Natural maternal instinct kicked in and she rushed up towards the landing, taking three to four steps at a time. Megan followed the screams into a pink bedroom with butterfly stickers on the wall. The little boy was lying face down on the carpet. The back of his head had been completely smashed in. ‘TESSA!’ Megan screamed at her friend, as Tessa repeatedly struck her daughter over and over with angel ornament. The little girl was motionless on the floor. Tessa turned to face Megan. Blood was pouring from her eyes. She screamed a haunting scream and charged towards Megan. The stripper slammed the door shut and headed for the car. There was nothing more she could do here. Tessa was gone.

‘Shit. Shit. Shit,’ chanted Fran, as she pulled up to another road block. Armed police officers were waving her car away. It had been like this down the last few roads now. Helicopters roamed the sky with bright white lights shining down on the hordes of mad people. They were starting to gather together like a mob. Gunshots echoed in the air, which inspired Fran to turn the car around and find another route. ‘I don’t think I will be able to get you home.’

‘I think we need to find someplace to hide.’

‘I think I know of a place. My husband should still be at work. We can wait it out there.’

  ***

‘I need to get to my flat,’ said Charlotte, as she sobbed in the back seat.

‘I think we need to stay away from our family.’

‘I have no family. I just want my dog. I can’t leave her there.’

Megan thought about it for a moment, as they sped through the streets. The infected could be seen everywhere. Fights were happening in every single direction they looked. ‘Okay. We can swing by, grab your dog and head over to my granddad's place, we should be safe there.’

  ***

‘That feels so good,’ moaned Helen, as she dug her fingernails into the arm of the couch. The sound of his thighs slapping against her naked ass echoed off the staff room walls. The feel of his long hard column penetrating deep into the depths of her mound was causing a wave of euphoria to wash across her body. ‘Do you fuck your wife like this?’ she asked, forcing her bodyweight back against him. ‘Does she let you take her like this?’ Helen laughed with joy as a pleasing moan escaped her lips. Sam stroked his hands up her naked back and grabbed the back of her neck. Helen arched her back for him, knowing full well how sexy it must have looked. Both of his hands curled around her throat and then tightened. Helen couldn’t breathe. She liked it rough, but this was going too far. She reached up and tried to pull his hands away, but Sam squeezed her throat with all his might. A mental scream leapt forth from his mouth, as the passionate sex came to an end and the brutal attack began.

  ***

‘I will be right back,’ said Charlotte, as she slammed the car door and ran into her building. Megan kept the engine running, but she didn’t think it would be possible for her to drive off an abandon her friend. Over the cityscape, she could see a helicopter spiralling wildly through the air. An incredible explosion illuminated the dark city as the helicopter smashed into one of the buildings.

‘Where are you?’ asked Megan, looking back towards the entrance of the building.

Charlotte’s dog came charging out of the shadows and ran off down the street.

  ‘Shit.’

Megan jumped out the car and looked for the dog, but it was already gone.

‘Fuck sake.’ A blur of movement flashed by her vision, as something fell from above and landed with a dull thud on the pavement. Bone crunching snaps filled the air, as blood and gore splattered the concrete. Megan backed away from the pile of mangled flesh, fighting back the vomit trying to escape her throat. Eyes as wide as saucers looked down at Charlotte’s crumpled up body. She was dead. Her friend was dead. Manic screams came from within the building. Megan jumped back into the car, put it into gear and didn’t look back. She only had one place to go. She had to get to her grandfather's house.

  ***

Fifteen minutes late. A body lay in the doorway of the house. Megan could feel her heart sink down into the pit of her stomach. The interior of the house was silent; the lights were out. Slowly, she inched her way through the shadows of the hallway. ‘Granddad, are you here?’ she asked, sheepishly. A big part of her didn’t want to look inside the living room. She didn’t want to know what she was going to find.

‘I’m here, Megan,’ said the old man.

Megan stepped into the living room.

Two dead bodies were lying on the floor.

Parts of their chest had been completely blown out.

Megan’s grandfather was sat in his armchair with a shotgun resting in his lap. Megan had never been so happy to see him in all his life. She felt a bit silly doubting the old man. He might be blind, but once a soldier always a soldier. ‘What the fuck is happening out there?’ he asked.

‘They are saying it was a terrorist attack. A chemical weapon that makes people go mad.’

‘We should get to your aunties house,’ he replied.

‘You think we can make it?’ she didn’t seem to sure.

‘Getting out of the city would be the best thing for us right now. It is only a matter of time before the army turns up.’

  ***

Helen twisted and turned, kicking out backwards. She rolled off the couch, pulling Sam out of her. An elbow busted his nose and created a brief opening. The young woman scrambled away on all fours, stood and paused at the doorway. The sickening howl that escaped his lips sounded like something that belonged in the darkest depths of hell. Fear gripped her as she looked into his bloody eyes. That handsome man was nowhere to be seen. Sam looked like a monster. He came at her like a sprinter in a race. Helen cried out and ran into the stockroom, but how was she going to escape? All the doors were locked, and Sam had the keys.

  ***

‘Shit. Shit. Shit,’ cursed Megan, as she helped the old man into the car.

  ‘What is it?’

‘It’s nothing, put your seatbelt on.’

A dozen of the infected were running into the street. It was like watching a pack of wild animals on the hunt. The leaner ones were breaking away from the group and were closing in on Megan. She slammed the car door and raised the shotgun. The gun nearly dislocated her shoulder, as the first guy was blown backwards into the air. The man’s torso had been ripped apart. She swung the shotgun to the next person and fired. The gun kicked and the person’s head popped like a balloon. Megan backed away, as she opened the gun and dropped the empty shells. She reached into the bag hanging off her shoulder and started to reload the weapon. The infected were heading straight for her until the horn of the car echoed throughout the street. The engine started, and she could see her grandfather in the drivers seat.

‘Hey, you fucking fucks I am over here,’ he yelled out the window.

  ‘Granddad, don’t do it!’

The infected turned to the car. One of them dived through the window and began to claw at the old man’s face. Megan took a pop shot with the shotgun but entirely missed. The car lurched forward at speed, rushed across the road and crashed straight into the wall of the house opposite. The infected headed straight for the crash trying to get at her grandfather. Megan shot a
fat man in the back, shredding his spine, as she ran across the road. She re-loaded the gun at she went. There was no time for fear or hesitation. If she wanted to save her grandfather, then a killing instinct is what she had to unlock.

  ***

‘Get away from me, Sam!’ Helen made her way through the dark stockroom, her hands stroked along the shelves, so she had a rough idea where she was going. Sam’s manic screams sent shivers down her spine, as he came after her. At the end of the aisle was the door to the shop floor. Helen only managed to step foot in the front of the house when Sam grabbed a firm handful of her hair and yanked her back. Helen turned and scratched. It was a natural survival instinct. He cried out and reeled back. She turned, tripped over a case of spirits behind the counter and walloped the ground. Sam was over the top of her in an instant. A strong hand grabbed her throat, as he placed a knee between her naked thighs. His throbbing member stood erect in the air. Was he planning to choke her to death, as he raped her? His other hand forced her thighs open, as he tried to get the dominate position. Helen’s eyes search for something to use as a weapon. He was simply too strong to get him off. Her eyes fell upon the orange handle of the scissors hidden beneath the till. She didn’t think. She didn’t plan. She merely acted. Helen stabbed the tip of the blade into the side of Sam’s throat. Blood hissed out of the wound. He sat up screaming in agony. Helen didn’t stop. She thrust the scissors into his torso over and over again. When Sam fell back, she fell with him, stabbing him over and over again.

  ***

Megan ran to the driver’s side and yanked open the door. The bonnet of the car was buried within the collapsed wall of the house. Bricks, glass and window frame, had smashed through the windscreen. ‘Granddad...’ she muttered, but she knew straight away that he was dead. The old man was slumped in the driver’s seat with a long piece of wood embedded in the centre of his chest. The infected woman leaning in through the passenger side window raised her head and screamed at Megan. The shotgun flicked up, and the barrel was pushed into the deranged woman’s mouth. The woman’s head exploded in every single direction as the shotgun completely decapitated her. Crazed screamed echoed down the street, as a horde of infected came sprinting around the corner. ‘I’m sorry, Granddad. I am so sorry.’ Megan turned on her heels and ran off into the night.
