“You should expect all the good things.” Niki said and then he remembered that in telling people about them he was going to be telling his dad too. Now his dad loved Ethan, he was sure of that, but he didn’t know how he would feel about them jumping in to being mates so suddenly. His dad was pretty old school when it came to dating. Niki would just have to explain it was one of those weird werewolf things that they just had to go with.

“Wait, where did you go just now?” Ethan asked.

“I realized we have to tell my dad that we’re a mated pair.” Niki said and then he laughed because of course his dad would find a way to accept it and be happy for them. “You’ll have to explain your parents’ relationship to him. They were mated weren’t they? And your dad was human?” Niki asked.

Ethan nodded. “That’s right. Of course. I can explain it to him. Besides, he loves me.” Ethan’s grin was way too cheeky, Niki had to lean in and kiss him.

The kiss turned heated and Niki was sure it was about to lead to other heated things as well, but his phone rang. He was all set to ignore it when he remembered the last time he ignored a phone call, Jessica had shown up. So he pulled away and turned over to grab his phone. It was Michael.

“Hey Mikey, what’s up?” He asked as he answered the call.

“Are you still with Ethan?” Michael’s voice was strained.

“Yes, what’s happened, what’s going on?” Niki sat up quickly, shooting Ethan a worried look. Ethan sat up as well and held his hand tightly.

“Oliver’s dead, Niki, and it looks like Liam killed him.” Michael said and the whole world came to a stop.

“Oliver’s dead. And they think Liam did it.” Niki told Ethan, his voice shaking.

Michael was calling an emergency meeting at his apartment and while he talked to Niki, Ethan went and gathered up his sisters and made sure Liam wasn’t home. When Niki hung up with Michael he took Ethan’s hands in his.

“This is my fault.” Ethan said. “I trusted him more than I should have. He never should have been a part of this pack.”

“Ethan, you had no idea he was capable of murder. None of us did.” Niki could feel his eyes welling up with unshed tears for Oliver, and also for Ethan. Liam was his family. You’re supposed to be able to trust family.

“He’s as good as dead now.” Ethan promised.

Niki nodded slowly. One of the most important werewolf laws was that you didn’t kill other werewolves. Only in self defense if ever. He would need to be put to death for killing Oliver, but it hurt Niki’s heart to know it was probably Ethan that would have to do it. They would need to let the werewolf council know as well.

“I love you, I’m here for you. Please don’t forget that.” Niki begged.

“I won’t.” Ethan promised. “I love you too and I’m going to keep you and everyone else safe.”

They didn’t sleep that night, but dressed quietly and headed over to Michael’s where everyone sat around on the floor talking and crying. They didn’t know Liam’s whereabouts, but since Tony was a deputy they’d alerted the sheriff’s office that they suspected it was Liam and where he might go, what he might be driving. Now they needed a plan.

Niki gathered pen and paper to take notes, but even as he did so, he kept the memory from earlier that night close to his heart. He was Ethan’s mate and nothing could take that away from them.

  Dear Reader

Thank you so much for reading, you totally rock! I hope you enjoyed my first ever book, Latex, Leather, and a Pinch of Pixie Dust. I really loved writing the way Niki and Ethan finally got together after years of mutual pining. Their story doesn’t end here, though! I’m already working on the sequel for you. Will they be able to find Liam and take him out? And does true love really conquer all? Stayed tuned to find out!

If you did enjoy reading, please take a moment to leave a review, good or bad. Reviews for authors are like clapping for pixies. We need them to live!

  Sincerely Yours,

  E. Gregory
