by Seymour Hersh

  24. Last Days

Malcolm Kilduff was interviewed three times by telephone from his home in Kentucky, beginning in February 1995; he was interviewed in Washington for Lancer Productions in September 1996. Hugh Sidey's cited column on Kennedy, "Upstairs at the White House," was published in Time magazine on May 18, 1987. James Johnston was interviewed in Washington in March 1994 and May 1995. The cited Stewart Alsop column was "A Conversation with President Kennedy," in the Saturday Evening Post for January 1, 1966. Karl Kaysen was interviewed in Boston in May 1994. Donald Reynolds's testimony before Burkett Van Kirk and the Senate Rules Committee was described in Clark Mollenhoff's Despoilers of Democracy, published in 1965 by Doubleday.

  Epilogue

James Dingeman was interviewed by telephone from his suburban Virginia home in November 1993 and May 1995. Richard Burke was interviewed in Washington in March 1994 and in Los Angeles in January 1997. His much-criticized book on Senator Ted Kennedy, which became a bestseller nonetheless, is The Senator: My Ten Years with Ted Kennedy, published in 1992 by St. Martin's. Frank Mankiewicz was interviewed in his Washington office in April 1994. Bobby Kennedy's exchange of letters with Earl Warren is included among the records of the Warren Commission.
