He died in 1931 at the age of 68, she in 1935 at the age of 71.
Countess of Rothes. Rescued in Lifeboat 8 in which she took a turn at the tiller.
She died in 1956 at the age of 77.
Master-at-Arms Thomas King. He helped passengers into the lifeboats.
His body was never recovered. He was 42.
The other characters mentioned are fictitious. Although there was an able seaman Davis on board, this was coincidental. His body was never recovered. He was 39. There was also a family with the name Astor (not Bernard), but again this was coincidental.
I did find reference to a Callahan being the only American on the Titanic’s crew but could find no mention of him in official records.
The Belvedere Arms was a real pub in Southampton from which people were recruited to work on board RMS Titanic.
1,513 people perished aboard the Titanic, but so many met their death with honour, their heads held high. Allen Gibson in his book The Unsinkable Titanic: The Triumph Behind a Disaster observed, “Her sinking was the last great act of chivalry, the curtain call to Old World pluck. She was never just another ship. In her one voyage she transgressed into culture through passengers rich and poor willing to forsake themselves for the survival of others, because doing so was simply the natural and correct thing to do.”
