Diving for Pearls: The Complete Collection (The Pearl Makers) Page 12

by Melissa Storm

To achieve their goals, protector angels have two primary powers. The first is the whisper, which is the voice of the conscience. The second is the dodge, an ability to control movement, which humans often mistake for muscle memory. Warden angels have a third ability: the pull. While protectors can only influence their own charges, wardens can influence any mortal soul using this ability as long as their end goal is to effect the suffering of their own charge.

While every individual—angel or mortal—is granted free will, they are also laden with the Plan. The Plan entails certain key aspects of life that are an inescapable part of the soul’s journey. Questioning the Plan tends only to bring it about faster.

All human life ends, at which point a mortal will either become a Pearl, transform into an angel, or take another birth as a human. There are only two ways for mortals to become angels. The first is by committing acts so unspeakably evil that they must ultimately become a warden to atone for their sins. The second is by performing an act of self-sacrifice, which will turn them into a protector.

If a soul is not qualified to become an angel and is not yet ready to become a Pearl, it is reborn with a new mortal identity—a process commonly referred to as reincarnation. Some souls require hundreds of births to reach ascension; rare others only need a few. In extreme cases, some mortals may remember their previous births in a phenomenon known as past life regression. This is often caused by protector angels who have a personal connection to their charge and refuse to let go of their own pasts, thus saddling their charges with these whispers of lives that came before.

If you were to ask the Pearl Makers, the meaning of life is simply to experience love in its purest state. Everything comes back to love, knowing it, experiencing it, and giving it to others freely. Once a mortal achieves this, they will be gladly welcomed through the Gates and into Heaven, a place of pure and everlasting love.

Melissa Storm is a mother first, and everything else second. She used to write under a pseudonym, but finally had the confidence to come out as herself to the world. Her fiction is highly personal and often based on true stories. Writing is Melissa's way of showing her daughter just how beautiful life can be, when you pay attention to the everyday wonders that surround us.

Melissa loves books so much, she married fellow author Falcon Storm. Between the two of them, there are always plenty of imaginative, awe-inspiring stories to share. Melissa and Falcon also run the business Novel Publicity together, where she works as publisher, marketer, editor, and all-around business mogul. When she's not reading, writing, or child-rearing, Melissa spends time relaxing at home in the company of her three dogs and five parrots. She never misses an episode of The Bachelor or her nightly lavender-infused soak in the tub. Ahh, the simple luxuries that make life worth living.
