I make my way in - that smell really is strong and tangy. I hold my nose. I cast my eyes over the light above me - a gold chandelier fit for a king. It's so sparkly with hints of green, pink and blue inside the crystals. Once I'm standing centre inside the room, a rush hits my chest, a rush of worry.
'Be sure to lock the door behind you.' Elijah said.
I quickly make my way back to the door and close it and lock it.
After shutting the door, I spot a dvd on the floor - someone has pushed it under the door by the looks of it. It does not have a cover to protect it. I frown while collecting it. It looks new, and shiny. I wonder what it is? I turn it over and I'm shocked beyond belief. There is a little yellow note stuck to the top of the dvd.

Without even thinking, I make my way over to the computers - I need to see what's on this dvd. I stare around the room - why the bloody hell does he not have a chair in here? I switch on the middle screen, and surprise, surprise, it has a password protect code. Hmmm, if I were Elijah, what would I use as the password? I try a few things, his Mother's date of birth, and death - I remember them from my online search. Nope, wrong both times. I have an itching feeling he may have used my date of birth, don't ask me why, I just have a strong feeling. I quickly type it in - in number form - and eh voila, it unlocks. I'm shocked to see his screen saver is me, when I was sixteen. I have wild curly blonde hair, and I'm dressed in a pure white maxi dress. Derek and I were at a beach, the cobbled stones are all around me in the photo. I shake my head in disgust, and while rolling my eyes also, I spot something. The messy paperwork on the desk, it's rules about this house - I think - a basic contract. I collate the paperwork as my curiosity rises - they are page numbered so it's pretty easy. Once they are in order, I read over them.

While still standing on jelly legs, the papers I'm holding gain weight by the second. What the hell have I just read? Female must be alive once the game ends! They use the order so easily, casually, like... maybe someone could actually come close to being killed. This place is fucking sick!
I set the papers down and try to distract myself from the fucked up shit I have just read - I knew things here were off beat, but to actually know what goes on seriously curdles my tummy. Next to the papers are all of Elijah's contacts typed neatly onto one piece of cream paper, and at the very centre, his father's number. I shake my head at the idea of such a fucked up father. I steal my thoughts away from the contract and quickly open the CD drive to the Apple Mac and insert Jezebels' dvd, and unexpectedly, my hour gets worse.
"Ahhh!" I scream as I take a tumbling step back from the screen. I seize my head with both hands in panic.
It's Elijah's father and Mother. She's seated in the middle of a dark room, and he's standing in front of her, hunching over her slightly, one hand on her shoulder. In his other hand, he's grasping a gun, and he's pointing it at her head! The camera is pointing down at them from a high corner in the room. Mr. Darks is dressed in a long sweeping black coat, Helen is wearing only a white nightgown, it reaches her ankles and covers her arms. She's so small, smaller than I imagined her to be, but maybe it's just the camera angle.
"Helen, I can end all your suffering with one bullet. You will never have to feel depressed again. You will never have to suffer." Mr. Darks says in a strangely calm voice.
"But I don't want to die." Helen cries. She's clutching at her knees through her nightgown, and I cannot clearly see her face because the room is dark, but I'm assuming she's crying real tears,
"Oh my God!" I start to cry, sensing how scared she must have been.
"But it is for your own salvation, and ours, Helen." Mr. Darks says sweetly.
My breathing is coming hard and fast, I cannot watch this. I cover my eyes but peek through my fingers. I cannot believe he actually killed her! I need to see it, as painful as it will be.
"I need to tell Elijah I love him, please don't do it before I tell my baby boy how much I love him." Helen cries.
Mr. Darks towers over her small body further. "Of course you can say goodbye, Helen." He says.
She gets to her feet, and as wobbly as she looks, she leaves the room. Around fifteen minutes into the dvd Mr. Darks starts pacing while holding his head. He stops in the middle of the room.
"Please forgive me, God." He begs, his hands held together in prey form, the gun between his palms.
I swallow hard as Helen returns. She takes pride position on the seat again.
"Elijah, please tell our son, Castor, that I'm sorry I couldn't love him the way he wanted, that I'm sorry he was forced to be evil." She weeps, her face in her small hands, and I sense how much her heart must be hurting. "Please tell Elijah, that I never wanted to leave him, that this is the hardest thing I have ever done. Tell him that he is my world, and that I will be waiting for him on the other side. Tell him -" Mr. Darks cuts her off.
"I will." He whispers, gun held to her forehead.
*BANG*
"Ahhh!" I scream, holding my mouth in shock.
He shoots her without another word said. Her body starts to fall limp but he catches her in his arms.
"I love you, Helen. I'm sorry." He says in a sob, his lips on her bleeding cheek.
I quickly take the dvd out, and in dismay, I make my way over to the bed and clamber atop of the lumpy mattress and drop the dvd. I'm in shock, I have just witnessed Elijah's Mother being murdered - what the hell am I supposed to do with this? I swallow hard. What did Jezebel mean, 'you have suffered with the guilt of your Mother'? Does Elijah think he killed her? This is wrong, so, so wrong. I shuffle back towards the wall. At the very back of the bed, there is a black leather diary with a band of leather rope wrapped around it. I peer around the room because I strangely don't feel alone. I shake my head, there is no one here. I open the diary with trembling hands - holy shit! It's Elijah's diary! I stop for a moment. I have just read a filthy sex contract from his cult leader and witnessed his Mother being killed - am I okay to read this? His thoughts? I lower my head while staring down at the worn leather. I don't think I can do this, I don't think I can absorb Elijah's mind this way, not right now.
I steal my way off of the bed, the diary still in hand. I think I should have a browse through his computer. I know I will probably find some seriously disturbing stuff on there, but it cannot be more disturbing than what I have just read and seen. I set down the diary on the desktop and gaze over the Mac. On the home screen there are contracts, meeting agendas, dirty photos - that I have to say, rob me of my esteem. There are yearly folders with my name under them - they must be from his PI - and at the very bottom of the screen, below everything, there is a video that is named, Anile Gooden. I roll
my eyes, I know this is a video of me, probably stolen from my house. I anxiously play the video.
I smile as soon as I see Elijah, seated at the end of his bed, in his bedroom. The bedroom lights are on and the curtains are closed - it must have been late when he filmed this. He's wearing a tux, and as soon as I mentally register his tux, I grasp my mouth in shock. I remember that tux, I remember his hair that way, floppy and long and shiny and curly. He filmed this the night he took me to the charity fundraiser! The night he gave me the egg! I press play.
