Samhain Island (Episode One) Page 12

Omokah stopped by the door, “Every non-human can. Now just take it easy, alright?”

Sky gave a nod and grabbed for the remote.

Tremaine was grounded for two weeks for lying. Danny had offered her the option of telling where she actually went, but she refused. She refused to speak to her parents for days, avoiding eye contact and work in the video store. She focused on building her fighting skills, and nothing else.

Hannah gave her the cold shoulder. At first, Tremaine tried to reason with her but found it futile after a day of being overly nice. She stopped trying to get through but still hung around the same friends. She feared that Hannah told Zac or René about her in the basement.

Tremaine looked up at the tower every time she was on her apartment porch. Tremaine’s parents eventually forgot about the incident in the tower. Danny looked around in the tower, and only found rats in Sky’s expired food and furniture. He called in someone to move out all of the old items and to get the apartment itself restored.

A month passed, along with her grounding, and she was exhausted thinking about all that happened. That exhaustion turned to disappointment and anger when she thought about what she could have been. She wanted to see Sky again, just to see how he was doing. She thought that perhaps if he were well, he would grant her immortality. Yeah, right, Tremaine thought. I bet it’s all bullcrap.

She attempted to talk to Miss Vargas when she was alone, but the teacher told her never to talk to her again about what had ensued at the St. Charles or else risk getting another detention.

It was the middle of her first-period class on Monday morning. She stared at the board and then looked down at her notes to continue them. In black ink, there was something she didn’t write. She read it a couple of times before rejoicing, hissing a “yes” and clapping once.

“Miss Boppel!” Mrs. Lopez turned around, frowning deeply. She pointed a piece of chalk at her, “You’ve got yourself another detention.”

Tremaine didn’t care if she received detention for the whole week, for on her notebook paper read words not written by her.

YOU STILL DOWN FOR IMMORTALITY? BECAUSE I AM. MEET ME BEHIND THE SCHOOL AT 4. NO HUNTERS THIS TIME!
