STARBURST #1 Page 47

by Woodruff, Jettie

Peyton put her arm around her. “I am afraid it makes perfect sense to me, and I am afraid that it is in your blood. You are so scared and excited about it that you feel like you have no choice but to push your limits and go for it.”

“Yeah totally,” Alley replied, listening to her mother describe exactly how she was feeling.

“Alley, you can get trapped in all of this, and this is not going to be the same as it was when your dad was directing you. I just want you to go into this with your eyes opened, and know what you are getting yourself into, be cautious of what you are doing and your actions.”

“I don’t even know what that means mom.”

“And I can’t even begin to explain it, but you will know what I am talking about.”

“Let’s get in the hot tub,” Alley told Trevas just after dark and they were once again alone.

Alley moved to in between his legs and leaned against his chest, and he embraced her. They sat quietly looking out to the lake for a long time, and Alley finally spoke.

  “Trevas?”

  “What Alley?”

“If you tell me to choose, I am going to choose you.”

“Do you want me to give you an ultimatum?”

  “I don’t know, maybe.”

“Well I am not, and I would never make you choose between doing another movie or me.”

“I’m afraid of what it will do to us,” she confessed.

“I am afraid of that too.”

“You are?” she asked, turning to him, and felt a little more fear about it now.

“Yes Alley. Don’t forget that I followed the actors around, I know what goes on after hours and after parties, and all the drinking and sex that goes on.”

“Are you worried that I would cheat on you Trevas?”

“I worry that you are young and can very easily get caught up in the moment.”

“I would never cheat on you Trevas,” she promised, and he only kissed her without a reply.

He knew she wouldn’t cheat on him right here in Utah with him, but like he said he had seen it first hand, and it did worry him. He wished that he could just tell her no, and he didn’t want her to do this, but he also knew that he couldn’t do that and would never make her choose.

“I have to go to LA next week to meet everyone and go over the contract,” she told him, leaning back against his chest.

“I know. I heard you on the phone.”

“You’re not going to go with me are you?”

“I can’t Alley. I have to be at the home.”

“I will only be gone a few days, and then I will be back here with you. We don’t start shooting until September.”

Trevas didn’t reply, for the simple fact that it was a lie. He knew they would have her flying all over the place for photo shoots, and every other promotion they could, to get her face out there and create all the hype. They were ruthless, and didn’t care who it hurt in the process.

Trevas held onto Alley for as long as he could as he waited for her plane to board. They had not spent one night away from each other in over two years, and he wasn’t looking forward to her not being with him and in his bed.

She looked up and kissed him when her plane started to board.

“Call me when you get there,” he said and kissed her again. “I love you Alley.”

“I will, and I love you too Trevas.”
